BioShock The Collection spotted on 2K's website [Screenshots Leaking]

Bioshock 2 was just lackluster and not memorable for me.

I absolutely loved infinite. Probably one of my favorite games of all time. It was weird how hate spread for it. I feel like one YouTuber made some video about hating it, then it was posted everywhere and then everyone decided to hate it. It was loved when it came out from what I remember

Every triple A game is loved when it comes out. You have to wait a couple weeks.

I think two things happened:

[1] the impact of the story - most stories, for that matter - is naturally dulled as time goes on. You may have a general remembrance of the feels at the time...but that emotional connection later is like remembering an echo.

[2] as amazing as the locale was, as atmospheric as the game could be, as unique as the characters were....there is no denying the criticism that the combat is entirely mediocre. Someone on GAF said the game may have played better as a walking simulator. I remember reading that and having my jaw hit the floor; "man - he may be right."

original bioshock still holds up. B2 was a solid sequel even in 2015 (when I replayed them both) though it did sort of feel like more of the same. I do like how they really approached the same ideas in the first game from the opposite pov in the sequel, however. We got a collectivist in our ears throughout instead of Andrew Ryan, and of course there's the obvious playing as a big daddy the whole time (major enemy in the first). Really interested in seeing how infinite holds up three years later.

Where did those screens go?

Great stuff.
Thanks for posting the pics.

Hmmm...I like the lighting better on the PC version - the way it reflects on the walls.

I'm fine with the new face; neither better or worse.

Me too! Almost all specular highlights/reflections are gone!

Haha yeah it reminds me of the "upgrade" between Halo 1 and 2—everything started losing its shininess.

Really though the true test of the upgraded textures will be the Splicers. Even for the time they weren't great in BS1, and that was one of the major areas BS2 improved on graphically.

Thanks for the pics!!

Fingers crossed for 60fps on consoles.
Would be absolutely great if they'd just point-blank mention it in the Collection's formal press release.

PS: I'd love to hear how the PC games have been improved.

From those screens some things are better like textures/shaders/materials but some things are not and some things are missing.

Loved Bioshock 2 and infinite, just didn't finish Bioshock 1 sadly, but this collection will be awesome to finally get to that. Hopefully it runs at 1080p/60fps, I will buy it day one.

Probably either seen Bioshock beaten or beaten it myself more then 10 times by now, happy to jump back in for another go if the improvements are large enough, the pictures shown so far don't look that great.

What?! I see it completely different! Materials/shaders look much better on the pc version in my opinion!

PC version like all older UE3 games has blocky textures on places where displacement maps were used (because they probably used lower res displacement maps). Look at the abs on statues or sign on the doors etc. Also trash can has more metallic look now and things like that. But not all textures are better.

Interesting that it's not just a straight port, though I'm not sure it looks clearly better (besides getting rid of the awful Unreal shininess from early last gen)

EDIT: well that lighthouse shot actually does look like quite an improvement, particularly the sky texture.

Hm, where did all the bubbles and wavy water effect go?

To be fair, that is a bit of a silly effect at the bottom of the ocean - there may be distortion, but there shouldn't be that kind of wavy distortion.

Now the Lighthouse got me. That's certainly an improvement.

This really can't come out soon enough. I need it in my BLOOD.

I never really touched the Bioshock series. When the first one came out I convinced my older brother to get it when he purchased his 360, had a great time but I didn't even get halfway through, and then I tried a little of Bioshock 3 or Infinite when it was a free title on PS Plus for PS3 and found it was great but I had just got my PS4 and didn't have time for it.

Basically I'm really fucking stoked for the collection so the sooner it's released the better. lol

I do like the pitch blackness on the side of the lighthouse opposite the moon in the PC version more, but overall the remastered shot does look better. Weird that they're re-polygoning all the polygons.

I'm all about whatever looks cool and not really concerned about its scientific accuracy.

I'm not liking how some things are improved and others are regressed...

Everything should be improved!

Especially those ground textures.

It'd be worth consideration if they updated 1 with 2's gameplay and made Infinite less mindless to go through.

LoL.
Why did you even post this?

I'd consider buying Zelda: Breath of the Wild if they updated the gameplay to give Link a cover fire mechanic for his bow and made it more interesting to go through by incorporating Mario's mushroom and fire-flowers to use.

Because 1 and Infinite are tedious combat-wise. I don't really have a problem with 2's and was disappointed when the combat formula wasn't carried to Infinite and we got a bunch of bullet sponges instead.

I'm curious; do you think more Bioshock games will be made in the future and who could develop them?

It's an ongoing IP, they've said development on future installments is underway. Is 2K Marin still around? I forget who's handling them.

Now I have a urge to play 1 (haven't finished yet) and 2 (never played it for more than 10 minutes) but a possible PC remaster is holding my itch back. Decisions, decisions.
