Valve dev posts pic of Left 4 Dead 3 folder in Destinations tutorial, then removes it

Could be anything, could be nothing considering the game has been supposedly coming soon for years.

Valve's Tristan Reidford has lightly teased Left 4 Dead 3 in a tutorial for the Destinations Workshop Tools.

The eighth image in the tutorial, titled "08_directory_fun.png," showed a conveniently placed folder called "left4dead3."

From the pessimists perspective, this was just a mistake, but it's too convenient that the folder viewport was scrolled exactly so that left4dead3 was shown first.

According to Tristan's Valve Developer Wiki contribution history, the image was first uploaded on June 28, and then nearly 24 hours after the community noticed the tease, was replaced by a poorly Photoshop'd version to remove the Left 4 Dead 3 reference.

Tristan's Valve Developer Wiki contribution history:

Tristan Reidford and other Valve developers have been "playing" a lot of Left 4 Dead 2 recently. Currently, Tristan's Steam profile says he's played about 348 hours of Left 4 Dead 2 in the past two weeks. Also, Valve have released at least five updates this year alone for the franchise.

Popular theory is them masking it with L4D2, that's why a lot of them have been playing it a lot lately.

Oh? I didn't know that.

Interesting. Really hopes it's L4D3. I LOOOOOVE L4D2: over 1700h played, and only stopped playing because my laptop goes in overheat mode when playing CPU extensive games : /

I'd so be on a L4D3 at launch. Probably anticipating as much as HL3, actually (not because HL3 is "dead" or other non-sense).

I don't think there's much doubt they're actually working on this one.

Whether it will ship this decade, maybe more of a question, but still.

dave is ok

aztek is ok
It's been speculated that this has been in development for a while. Hopefully it will be announced sometime this decade

I believe Left 4 Dead 3 is a thing employees at Valve have worked on.

I dont believe it will be an actual video game people can play any time soon.

Valve game rumors and "leaks" don't even register for me anymore.

How many years have we been getting stuff like this about L4D3? First one I remember was when they updated the Source engine and people supposedly found assets or screenshots of it somewhere, and that was a LONG time ago.

To make it worse, L4D3 does seem like the most likely game they're actually working on, but it;s the one I least care about (unless they do a lot more to beef up the single player portion of it).

Devs at Valve are so bored since they don't make games anymore, that they tease video games for their own enjoyment

They've been working on L4D3 for a while, based on this thread.

I'd be surprised if it came out this year since it was a no show at e3. Early next year?

valve almost never shows stuff at e3. i think their last appearance was on the sony stage for portal 2 because they had the short-lived steam on ps3 initiative.

before that was probably hl2 and source1 reveals.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I don't give a fuck. This isn't too be edgy but as a game developer I realize Valve is going in directions I have no care for despite still sort of enjoying CS GO and dabbling in TF2 from time to time. They just aren't making games I care about anymore despite those games looking good, playing well, etc. and combine that with the fact L4D3 has been coming for years and we are always seeing hints exists doesn't instill much faith in me. I wish them the best and I may reconsider when we finally see something but this news does so little for me at this point.

At this point they should just hold everything back and release "The Orange Box 3", with Half-Life 3, Portal 3, Left 4 Dead 3, and Team Fortress 3. Ignore there being no "The Orange Box 2."

I would sink a ton of hours into a L4D3... even if they incorporated loot crates with different weapons or character skins...

Left 4 Dead 2 already basically was one.

They just, you know, shut off the service part.

L4D2 had constant updates and mods. I still play it every fall with my crew and download new maps and skins and shit. They are just free and not paid for haha. Homer-Simpson Chainsaw mod and Whitchney Houston mod are fantastic!

I don't know when L4D was announced, but L4D2 was definitely announce at a Microsoft e3 conference. I remember all the bitching that generated at the time.

I swear to god if Left4Dead 3 comes out before Half-Life 3 I will totally buy, play and enjoy it but i will be mighty angry while doing it. Careful Valve, I'm serious!

Right, and I don't think things need to actually be paid to be considered a service. Terraria had an astronomical amount of free update content and was definitely a service.

L4D 1 + 2 should have been remastered for PS4 x xbox one , PS4 mainly because PS never had left 4 dead

left 4 dead 1 and 2 were so amazing back in the 360 days, loved that game

DO IT VALVE

Dear god NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

wut? Stop it. NO!!

Lol it is definitely going to be enabled for VR for sure. They will probably pick a new setting though, but I liked NOLA a lot. The plantation map, the french quarter map, the hurricane map. All awesome.
