PC version of Inside seemingly using Denuvo

Credit to Catinabox:

I have just read on the Steam forum that INSIDE is using Denuvo DRM based on this url:
https://support.codefusion.technology/inside/

I have never had a game used Denuvo before. Is it any bad for performance on older rigs (say, with 8GB of RAM)?

I suppose it's not entirely shocking to see an indie developer jumping on the bandwagon.

Edit:
Now that the PC version has released, I can confirm that it indeed does use Denuvo... and CEG ("Steam DRM").

Well I was gonna overlook the 1 week delay and pay full price, but this just delegated it to sale price in winter.

Yay because Denuvo seems to be nigh impossible to crack

Boo because I've had problems with this DRM in the past, and it can be a trial

Will wait to see how this develops, but I may refund my copy on Steam over this. Not interested in encouraging Denuvo by buying full price.

There's nothing inherently wrong with taking a stand against Denuvo. Regardless of where you stand vis-a-vis it as a moment-to-moment form of DRM, there is the fact that you cannot run a Denuvo-protected title for the first time without being online, which may be an issue in in the not-too-distant future should the service be discontinued. One need only look to GFWL to see how short-sighted some publishers are -- "fire and forget", as the saying goes.

God I wish games like this didn't have to be roped into timed exclusivity :/ I want to play it on PS4, the wait for Oxenfree was bad enough.

That activation page looks like some early 2000s software stuff lol.

I thought Steam was effectively its own DRM. Why would you need something like this?

The Steamworks "DRM" is basically non-existent when it comes to cracking. Denuvo is not a kind of DRM, what it actually does is protecting the real DRM from being tampered.

CEG is optional and in practice protects only against "zero-day" piracy (i.e. pre-release leaks). In other words, it's practically worthless as far as post-release protection is concerned but has a flawless pre-release track record.

Denuvo isn't "DRM" per se. It's an "anti-tampering solution", meaning you can't just crack the .exe to pirate it. It's a way to protect Steam's DRM from being cracked, essentially.

Edit: More on topic, I want to get this game, but €20 as a proposition is a bit steep for me right now.

There are rumors that Denuvo has been cracked by some Russian team recently, so I feel bad for any other Indie guys who put money towards it hoping for protection on their games. Of course, it should protect them during the most important sales period, so it isn't all bad.

That is great news. It would appear that Denuvo has adopted a pricing model that indies can afford, not just large publishers.

Gonna wait for a DRM free version. I'm not accepting this from an indie dev who's previous titles stands at 3,727,693 copies on Steamspy.

Probably the same number that are unplayable today because of DRM - zero good ones.

I don't think Denuvo is a problem yet, but I will say, no game, no matter how bad, should be lost forever.

I know that since gaming as a medium isn't as old as film, people don't really care for "Lost Games" yet, but trust me, there will come a time.

Great. We all know how hard Limbo bombed thanks to piracy. Finally the dev has found a solution to stop that.

Isn't the crack on a game-by-game basis? So it would still take forever to crack Inside?

Denuvo is not cracked. It can be bypassed by running the game through a debugger, which makes it unplayable slow but even that is only possible after months and on a per game basis.

its uncrackable in any timely fashion and cracking one game means nothing in regards to cracking another. combined with most cash being made in the first x months of a games life, then denuvo has essentially 'solved' piracy on the pc.

ideally a game would remove denuvo after its been out for a time so servers shutting down dont affect it, or some kind of 'we are bankrupt -> unlocked' type agreement.

LIMBO -- MB-1C6835483F6B9196 - Taken by OnionPowder
In honor of this awful news, here's a game that doesn't feature Denuvo

Limbo has been a part of dirt cheap Humble Bundles countless times, and was also free during this year's summer sale, when its sales numbers grew from 2.5 million to 3.7 million.

Stil picking it up day one.

Denuvo has never giving em any issues in any game that uses it. The moment it does is the moment I'll rage. But so far so good.

Fuck pirates.

Honestly i am little disappointed that Playdead did this.

Disappointed at that a small (25 people) indie studio want to survive by not having their game pirated? We know piracy on a grand scale of things doesn't impact sales that much but it does hurt smaller devs A LOT more than triple A ones.

Horrible news! I don't even know if anyone will bother to crack this one after Denuvo servers will stop working.

Anyway

Limbo: Owners: 3,727,693 ± 50,429 NO DRM
Inside: ?

Lets see.

We'll know by 2022.

Yea the devs were just barely able to stay alive with Limbo

Yep. Refuse to buy Inside now. They lost my sale by using Denuvo.

Again, as the above poster has already mentioned, it was part of multiple humble bundles and was free on Steam for a few days.

Haven't noticed denuvo in any of the games that use it and if it gives a good window of piracy protection to games then I'm all for it.
