Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Put on an incense and a lure on a nearby pokestop, and sat down for 30 minutes with some coffee. I only caught 1 or 2 new Pokemon, but the sheer amount of Zubats, Rattatas, and Pidgeys is nice for leveling:

I live in Canterbury in England and the map is RAMMED with Pokestops and Gyms. Seriously, I was in part of London yesterday and I'm looking at maybe triple density of locations here. Problem is my mobile carrier (o2) has abysmal 4G in this town so I can't access most of them =(

Really annoying how the game can sometimes be completely ruined by factors out of our (and even Niantic's) control.

Just when I used my Incense the servers went down. And before that my network connection died when I encountered a Jigglypuff. What a day.

I just went out for a walk and BAM server issues.
Lure module wasn't letting me use it at a pokespot, wondering if that was server issues or what.

Man, I was in the middle of taking down a Gym too. There was another guy parked in a car nearby who honked at me. On his screen I saw the game, haha.

Nice! One thing I wish they'd carried over from Ingress is the team chat. Would be great to organise team lure sessions near coffee houses and in parks. Also to co-ordinate gym attacks. Instead I find myself glancing at anyone else walking around looking at their phone (which is pretty much everyone these days) and wondering if they're playing too. No way of finding out without being a bit weird.

Holy shit. I had a conversation with a barista and customer at Starbucks about this game. It's going to be huge. Just caught 4 Pokémon before servers died.

Same here (beside the jiggly). It was working so smooth for the past few hours and with absolutely nothing near me now I decided fuck it and use incense. One minute later server crash.

So I downloaded this yesterday, and the servers were shitting the bed for most of the afternoon. I picked it back up later and got through some sort of intro where I create my character and then caught my first pokeman (Charmander). Is there something I can do to train him, or is this just a "walk around and collect stuff" game?

This reminds me of Google Ingress, which I believe was also developed by Niantic.

Anyways, I have never played a pokemon game, so I'm not really sure what to expect out of this, but it seems to be popular among my friends and on the internet, so I thought it'd give it a shot. I always take walks on my breaks at work, so I'm hoping to run into something while I'm out and about.

Actually it's good news! Go to the Shop page and you'll see a shield icon in the top-right corner of the screen. You can press that once every 24 hours to get free Stardust and Pokecoins. You get 500 Stardust and 10 Coins for every Pokemon you currently have defending a gym, up to a max of 10 (so 5000 Stardust and 100 Coins).

If your area is stacked with well defended gyms and you can get your own Pokemon in there defending with them, it's like guaranteed daily bonuses from that shield icon =)

Oh interesting! I've heard the maximum number of Pokemon that can be attached to a gym at any given time is 3. Is there any way to replace one of them with yours? Or do I have to wait for another team to take over the gym before I can reclaim it and place my Pokemon there

I was at a bar last night and when the bartender asked what my boyfriend and I were doing we told him about Pokémon. Turned out he had already downloaded based solely on its similarity to geocaching.

I used incense and in 20 mins 2 rattatas have shown up, kinda disappointing.

What's on your "nearby" list? Make sure there's a broad variety with some of them 1 pace away or less. Otherwise... yeah, that'll happen. I made that mistake in my hotel room last night, and just kept running into Drowzees.

You walk around and collect pokemon, and you can battle with them at gyms to take them over. That's about it.

So I decided to hit the 3 pokestops near me and caught a CP 185 Primeape with me at level 5. It showed up as CP ??? when I found it and it took 7 throws to catch the fucker, with me thinking I was wasting pokeballs the whole time but eventually it stayed caught.

Also I had a USPS driver call out to me asking what team I am, which was pretty fucking cool.

Valor, duh

yup, tons of people who don't game much or don't play traditional games were texting me all day yesterday (people that know i play games) saying they're really into it, their parents are, etc.

it is absolutely going to explode and will likely maintain its spot as most popular app for the rest of this year.

Hah, now the Google players get to see what us Pokemon Trainer Club players have been seeing for the last 26 hours. ;)

:(

Finally feeling those server issues. Went out to catch a Pidgeotto and game died on me. Can't log back in, oh well. I think I might stick to night time playing until the game is fixed.
