So....yeah.

I hope you guys are not going to play circle jerk again, with the thread devolving into people saying there's no issue with revolving door politics or corporate corruption again, just because of who you support.

I've made my share of grandiose statements in political threads like these, because i'm not going to generally shy away from what i feel about this sort of thing.

I sympathize with those people who feel like their back is against the wall and while they would not vote for Clinton under normal circumstances, they would do so against a threat like Trump.

But that doesn't mean that the fight is over, is all i'm saying. It doesn't end at an election or who is in the white house.

I'll wait to decide until the general election debates are over to see if I vote for Hillary or just sit out. I want to see what kind of policies and stances she takes when on the stage against Trump, because Bernie forced her farther left during the primaries than she otherwise would have been. While I was never Bernie or bust , I never intended on casting a vote for anyone in the 2016 election until Bernie joined the race, so I'm back to my default position . I realize Hillary is the lesser evil , but that's a pretty weak reason to expect her to automatically get the votes from people who supported Bernie. I think it's also asinine to put the onus on independents to vote for Hillary cause Trump is her opponent , how about the DNC makes sure there's more compelling candidates to vote for instead of expecting people to simply vote out of spite because Trump is a poorer candidate than Hillary. Obama was by no means a perfect candidate back in 2008 but he certainly was able to make a compelling case for why he was worth electing in 2008. It frustrates me because I would have voted for Elizabeth Warren , regardless of if Bernie Sanders ever entered the race . If it would've been Elizabeth Warren versus Hillary from the start I would've voted for Warren in a heartbeat . The reality is I'm stuck with Hillary , so I'll wait and see what I do ..

Can someone explain why Sanders still hasn't dropped out of the race?

Pretty sure he officially did today, but I imagine he was trying to be a thorn in Hillary's side so that she would bring in more liberal policies as a compromise for his endorsement. (which she claims she is doing).

You can get better and more detailed information from reading the campaign platform than you could ever hope for during a debate.

After the Fart-In and near-riots at the caucuses, how can you say that?

There was a lot of anger in Bernie supporters everywhere I looked: real life doscussions, my friend's FB, twitter and IG, youtube videos, reddit, even here on GAF with some of the more extreme zealots.

I'm still amazed people are taking that fart-in thing seriously. It was just a nice headline. I saw no evidence that it actually existed in any form. No facebook event or nothing. Hard to organize the "world's largest fart-in" without any organizing.

I'm well aware , read a lot of that when Hillary and Betnies policies and stances were being compared. I want to see how she articulate and defends her stances in the general election debates .

What information does that add?

You are trying to analyze the moves of a chess player when playing against a pigeon. He will shit on the board and fly away thinking he won, but you won't learn much about what the player will actually do in practice.

Umm. There isn't really a race anymore. His delegates still want to vote and get counted at the convention.

He is not really campaigning for his campaign anymore. Primaries are over. You can't drop out when it doesn't really mean anything anymore haha.

Context ? I want to see her on TV articulate her points , how is that hard grasp . Me reading her policies isn't me hearing her state her policies and articulate them in a debate setting against her opponent . Stop being dense .

Any interview or town hall on policy will have more content and articulation than a debate against Trump.

I'm not being dense at all, I just think your approach is terrible. You can't jusge policy on a debate against Trump. It's just not how the game will play out.

If you support progressive social policies, this is a critically important election to vote in. Whoever wins in November is guaranteed to nominate one Supreme Court Justice to fill Scalia's seat. More likely, the winner of the 2016 race will be nominating at least one other Justice as Ginsburg seems likely to retire.

As an early Bernie supporter, I'm certainly sympathetic to your stance. I've never had the dislike for Hilary that so many progressives seem to, but in 2016, I'm voting for SCOTUS and not POTUS.

A vast majority of Bernie supporters that still vote will end up voting for Clinton, but the ones that don't -- I think most of those will vote for Johnson over Trump, and that's not that bad of an outcome. Voting for Clinton will be the most effective way of preventing Trump, but a vote for Johnson helps combat Trump too.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

So you don't care about what a candidate wants to achieve, you care about how they talk about what they want to achieve in a very specific setting?

Weird.

I would expect most Bernie or bust folk will vote Green or abstain. Voting libertarian makes no sense.

the bernie or bust people will do what they usually do, not vote and then edgy post on social media that they didn't because both parties are the same and everyone else who isn't as enlightened as them or whatever are sheep

I actually forgot about Green. Yeah they'll probably split between those two, but at least right now Johnson is doing a lot better so I think there's momentum there. I'm already trying to talk fb friends away from their recent Johnson switch, so that's probably what got me thinking about this. :p

A debate isn't a good way to learn about a candidate's policies and how they defend them against criticism, especially a debate against Donald Trump. What makes you think the attacks Donald will have against Hillary's policy proposals will be valid criticisms?

I dont understand why it's so difficult.
She won and Trump is far worse.

You can be a politician that is part of the corrupt establishment and there can be others that are a billion times worse.

I mean Bernie endorsed Obama in 2012 even though he thought a primary challenge would be a good idea.

It's nothing unprecedented.

Comparing policies, maybe. But if you're attracted more by anti-establishment positioning than specific policies and think Johnson is a stronger candidate than Stein, sure. I don't think Bernie or Busters will vote for Johnson in large numbers, but I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they break comparably or even more for Johnson than for Stein.

November determine whether Bernie's vision remains judicially viable for the next few decades.

It's that simple. If a voter is in a swing state and is serious about seeing Bernie's movement realized, this election offers a pretty easy choice.

It's pathetic that you're actually bringing logic into this thread and people just brush off what you have to say because they can't look past their worship of Hillary.

What's even more pathetic is that Bernie has finally endorsed her, which is what much of HillGAF wanted in the first place, and people are still taking cheap bullshit shots. The entire point is to bring unity to the party and people are still doing the most to drive people away from her. It's truly baffling.

Anyway, his speech was wonderful and I'm glad he finally endorsed her.

I don't really see how it's the DNC's job to find more "compelling" candidates for president when when we had a very contested primary where Democratic voters ultimately chose Hillary over Bernie by decent margins. This isn't a parliamentary election where party leaders can shoulder some of the blame.

Fantastic speeches, from both Sanders and Clinton today. Great stuff. Very excited to see what Sanders will do from here, and how his support will affect states like NH, hopefully further destroying any chance Trump has there and further narrowing his options. Hope whatever their respective approaches end up being to stop Trump from coming anywhere near the White House from this point both go well. Very good day. ^__^

While I don't think she will make the worst President in the system we currently have(provided the "topple assad government, kill all rebels, put up a no fly zone" shit in syria gets canned), its not enough to simply say that things staying as they are now is an acceptable thing.

The people who openly and fully supported the establishment's viewpoint throughout the whole cycle have to realize that. Being dependent on those who aren't dependent on you is no democracy.

This is why Bernie openly endorsed opponents to Debbie Wassermann, among others. because changing the system starts with getting rid of those kinds of people, who would drop their constituents in a heartbeat if they were persuaded with dollar signs enough.

Sure but is it any wonder why those people who bought into his outcries of "fraud!" have turned against him?

What you should realize is that maybe people didn't support Bernie himself but supported him because of what he was saying...

If they think Bernie is a "sellout" because he endorsed Clinton on a race against Trump then that is their problem.

They are free to "turn on him" and disagree with the endorsement though.

I am sick of this fucking slander of DWS. Prove to me that she's a money driven harpie who doesn't care about her constituents, because all I see is a hard working woman who has served her district for many years and has accomplished much in the legislature.

I'm in the exact position and I've never voted before. However, I'm definitely leaning towards voting for her because:
  1. She shifted left on healthcare - I don't care if she had this position 25 years ago. That is not the position she had when I heard her in the primaries, so shifting left here pleases me. Still not the ideal position, but a huge step towards Single Payer
  2. Same with education - like above, not enough as it excludes families making over 125K which is dumb. It also doesn't detail what contributions the family has to make, still a step in the right direction
  3. She is very strong on gun law reform
  4. Very strong on racial injustice and on LGBT rights
  5. Pathway to citizenship to illegal immigrants who do not have a criminal record
  6. Strong on green energy and changes needed for climate change
  7. Guaranteed paid family leave
  8. Voting rights
  9. Women and minorities rights
  10. Apparently wants to make changes on campaign finance and break up big banks
  11. Her working with Sanders shows me she is willing to go further if needed
  12. And especially, this - One open spot that the senate is not going to allow Obama to appoint. Three more are probably going to retire or maybe die. They are older and 2 are left leaning (83 and 77 years old) and one is right leaning (79 years old). It is EXTREMELY scary to think 7/9 judges would be appointed by Republicans, up to 4 by Trump.

There are other stuff that I like as well, but it's similar to what Trump has, i.e. reshoring whenever possible, fix our crappy ass infrastructure (bridges, roads, public transport, etc), taking care of our veterans, etc

When looking at that, one can see how similar her policies are with Sanders'. All the list above except for the last, most important point is for naught if she doesn't have congress come 2018.

I think she is a major liar though. She is also hawkish as fuck. A snake in the grass and a flip flopper. A panderer and a demagogue. I have not forgotten the quick "NO" for gay marriage in NY and how private prisons backed her. I do believe people can change and she might have been ignorant before and has genuinely changed. I will have to see it though.

At the end of the day, I'm registered in arguably the most important purple state and I think I'll most likely drag my ass there and vote for here, but I'll see what happens in the general and see if she will go back to her positions when the primaries started.
