Media Create Sales: Week 27, 2016 (Jul 04 - Jul 10)

PS4 has hit an okay baseline the past few weeks. It's managing to truck along during a period of the year when big releases are typically scarce. September onward should be fun.

13./00. [PS4] Tales of Zestiria <RPG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2016.07.07} (¥3.800) - 5.045 / NEW

why buy a new ps4 copy when there's cheapo 2nd hand ps3 copy of the same game? not to mention some ppl still cannot letitgo.gif with alisha-rose thingy w

Let's not act as if that was the only problem the game had. It expected more from the rerelease, but I guess nothing was really added to it unlike other rereleases.

actually Tales of Zestiria being 13th place is quite awesome, they had the game for a year, and now it is being released for Ps4 without the anime chapter, like the first print ps3 edition.

Tales of Zestiria on PS4 had exactly the reception someone would expect for a late port from PS3. That almost no one in Japan would care for it.

I think the more interesting fact about ToZ PS4 sales is yet another confirmation of the complete overlapping of PS3 and PS4 owners in Japan. The percentage of PS4 owners that didn't own a PS3 must be tiny. It is an understandable but still worrisome statistic.

my 2nd sentence is just my cheap jab on alisha fans /runs
late port without new stuff, why bother honestly. it's not like this ps4 release magically fix most ps3 ver. problems

In 2ch, there are groups of people now starting to take legal measures against Namco on this issue.
In 2ch there are movements asking for more people to contact the Consumers Affairs Agency (operated by the Government of Japan) regarding the misleading advertisements created by Namco.

There are many sources online that Namco conducted a misleading advertising regarding Alisha and her position in game.
1. Although Baba commented after the selling of the game that the "heroine" is decided by the players, there are many goods and magazines that commented Alisha being the "heroine".
2. After the selling of the game Namco had issued these goods and magazine companies to "delete" the heroine description out. Some companies did, and some are still available.
3. Baba's interview before the selling of the game that Sorey and Alisha is a "fixed" party character.

LOL. I guess they should feel blessed they got 5k out of it?

No wonder why they are releasing Berseria on ps3 too, and also because both games are in the same timeline, and confirmed it will be the last Ps3 game

Most of the people already bought the game last year and in Christmas season, not to mention the game had a price discount last year, those who bought it this time might be getting prepared to buy Berseria in August.

Let's not spin 5k sales into an awesome thing even if it's a late port with no promotion whatsoever and no incentive to double dip.

This SKU was always going to be irrelevant no matter how much it sold, but 5k is clearly on the low side of the expectations even if the budget price may (?) help selling a bit more in the long term.

My comment was because I was expecting less, considering the game was already released on PS3, a year ago, and the huge amount of hate it generated, however I believe the ps3 game sold well in release date, not so sure about it.

Anywho, putting the Zestiria drama aside, i'm glad Splatoon had a comeback... not that it left tbh... quite popular tbh

I blame the horrible boxart for the horrible sales. I mean, look at this.
I'm not serious.

Never understood why the Japanese market always have horrible boxes when games get price reduction... totally blame the boxart /s

It sold worse than Xillia 2 which itself sold much worse than the first Xillia.

PS3 Tales of Xillia 512,544
PS3 Tales of Xillia 2 331,533
PS3 Tales of Zestiria 316,824

What a weird chart. It's looks bad but has good news for consoles... I guess "for consoles" is pretty big qualifier in Japan now. But are handhelds heading for a better place? I guess Japan is a weird market in general right now.

oh well, still, apparently did pretty good with steam sales and everything

Edit: had no idea Zestiria sold more than Graces F, being it released previously in the wii could have been a factor

Also, apparently did pretty good through steam, not too bad, Berseria is looking better so that's good

Home consoles are similar to how they were 5 years ago, it's handhelds that have seen the major drop. Though obviously these new consoles are only a few years old unlike in 2011.

Well yeah, but we're in a MC thread so we're mostly talking about Japanese sales here and the Tales series is on the decline and nothing seems to indicate that Berseria will do better than Zestiria there.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that market all hinges on whatever Nintendo has planned for their 3DS successor. But is there any chance handhelds see an increase? It's hard to see that right now.

I still think Graces Wii could've done huge numbers had it not suffered like the worst launch possible;

1. It was horrendously broken, so badly that all copies had to be recalled and fans were given free replacements by mail I think?

2. Released one week prior to FF13.

Despite that it managed to sell over 200k on Wii.

Fun fact: This is the second bigger Wii U week of the year :D

It's actually bigger than the week of Pokkén bundle and the golden week.

Didn't expect such a bump for Wii U. Splatoon was very known to increase a lot, but didn't notice anything related to better shpments for the console, that was sold out in most of the stores.

Better numbers yes, huge no it never had a chance from the very beginning, game being broken is only something which has an effect on the sales post launch and since Tales have terrible legs anyway...

1. Correct. I kept my full of bugs copy though :D

2. One could say that 2 months after the port of Vesperia on PS3 was not a good thing to make your fanbase think that the game will stay exclusive to the Wii.

I don't think the next Nintendo handheld will go higher than 3DS, but it may likely have a shorter life if needed too...

Another downgrade on the 3DS software side with Culdcept... Yokai Watch 3 next? :|

Wii U will survive PS4's pushing at least until FF XV releases. But seeing these bundle numbers is very diffcult to imagine that Nintendo is only shipping 800.000 Wii U until March 2017... maybe this bundle will also be supply constrained in a month? :D

I would be really surprised if Yokai Watch 3 wasn't a decline from Yokai Watch 2.

Yep, but by how much? Do you see it doing less than 2 million? (busters numbers) That would be a serious decline.

I'm more worried about MonHun Stories... I saw that title selling easily more than 1 million (high production values, RPG, several amiibos...) but now I'm not so sure. It really seems that the SW side is being affected by the last breaths from the 3DS HW side.

Dat WiiU bump! Nay bad. Software seems to be really benefiting too.

My favourite thing at the moment is Coven legs though. Completely unexpected and I'm really pleased NISA seem to have a success on their hands. I'm also pleased we're seeing a runaway success story from a DRPG on Vita after Demon Gaze, which seemed to be the only one.

I'm less pleased that Coven's third week is at the expense of Shin Hayarigami 2 though. The first seemed to receive bad WoM and that looks to have caught on with the sequel. And the console versions are MIA.

Shame Vita hardware is down though. And it won't see the holiday bump that last year saw thanks to Minecraft either, I don't think.
