Wow, that was a terrible movie. I went in hoping for an at least an ok stupid comedy, didn't even get that.

I love the Ghostbusters, even the second one. And was hoping after Spy that this would at least be funny, but it really feels like one of those dumb, forgettable remakes nobody talks about weeks after it's release. People really need to stop making corporate cash cow attempts as catalysts for the never ending battle of progressiveness Vs. alt right idiots.

I'm not really familiar with RLM reviews. Do they have reputation to be unbiased and honest reviewers?

Well they made the Star Wars Episode 1-3 Plinkett reviews. Usually they are pretty tame (loved the new Star Wars, which I thought was terrible) and like shlock.

But they are the funniest, when they reviews movies like Jack & Jill, Pixels, Paul Blart or Ghostbusters.

Saw it tonight and wow, it sucked.

The first half was OK, but from there is just got bad. The jokes just got worse as the movie went and yeh...

Basically the only high points where the cameos made by the original cast.

Do not want a sequel

kind of wanted to see this movie because of the shitstorm surrounding it but the reviewers I pay attention to dragged it pretty hard. seems like it's just a generic 2016 improv-edy with a ghostbusters skin.

might take double toasted's advice and watch this when it gets released digitally. it can't be worse than ghostbusters 2, can it? save for the statue of liberty part.

Saw it finally, thought it was super fun! Lots of flaws for sure, but a very enjoyable watch nevertheless.

Really enjoyed Leslie Jones more than i expected to (especially with her bits in the trailer being a bit much), she seemed the most relatable, McKinnon was great as always. McCarthy didn't do much for me however. Hemsworth was superb.

Love to see this turn into a franchise, and hopefully they can make a tighter movie next time. I think Fieg has done quite a bit better before.

Ghostbusters 2 is a good movie, this one is okay at best. I would recommend watching it eventually because it is worth a watch but if your okay with waiting to digital than that's the way to go.

I can't believe the shitposting gainst RLM because they didn't like Ghostbusters.
What is wrong with some of you.

I mean the only person who claimed that happened is Lothar.

No one has really said anything about them. Lothar just kept bringing them up in context of criticism of someone else but no one took the bait.

ok well I have to adjust your scale because ghostbusters 2 is mehtastic. that drops this one down to bad at best.

If you don't have anything to add to the discussion it's better not to post.

Let's wade into this mire.

CBG's entire premise is that those critics who enjoy the movie or those simply writing about this entire situation are not being honest. This is as faulty as assuming that those who disliked it are Gamergators.

The entire argument she creates ignores:

  • The hate prior to the trailer
  • The intentions and direct efforts of the production crew, outside of Sony
  • The treatment of the previous remakes she lists

It makes people feel safe. For some, it's absolutely a dog whistle to hide behind and that's something I talked to Philosophy about. It's similar to the situation Rolfe ended up in and it's part of why he received the wrongly-aimed backlash. Saying "It's only about nostalgia or a bad trailer" is utterly incorrect. I can go back to any early announcement of this project as a female-led picture and prove that handily.

Was it a bad first trailer? Sure. Was that bad trailer bad enough to be the worse trailer on YouTube ever, completely through organic likes/dislikes? Of course not. Most of the time a bad trailer comes and goes, alongside t's movie. Ben-Hur is following Ghostbusters and yet, nothing, so it's not just a general backlash to remakes either.

Is this ultimately worth all the hate? If we're going to honestly talk about this mire, then don't just bring up Rolfe or Roeper. Bring up the absolute shitshow of tweets at Feig from the beginning. Bring up the everything thrown at every critic who gave a positive review as well. Or the treatment of Patton Oswalt (that's his dead wife, btw). Bring up what happened to Leslie Jones yesterday.

If you're going to hand-wring, at least hand-wring everything. Because this was not the film worth any of this.

So do I think CBG is a GamerGator or whatever? No, that's thrown around a bit too much. But I think her argument is insincere. Not because she doesn't believe it, but because it's only a limited scope of the entire situation. It's aimed to excuse a specific viewer.

RLM was expected. They love to go in when they feel a movie is bad and I figured that Mike would dislike it. No issues either way. People can dislike a movie.

I can't believe the shitposting gainst RLM because they didn't like Ghostbusters.
What is wrong with some of you.

Can you point to the bevy of comments about RLM that prompted this? Direct quotes are fine.

Seriously, y'all are tiring me out here. You had a ton of people in this very thread say they liked or disliked the film, without issue. It's when people go hard that it goes off the rails. Just chill.

Seriously. I watched part of the RLM review. I've always heard of them, but never really sat down and watched them since, literally, the only YouTube reviewers I watch on a regular basis is Double Toasted. And while I didn't agree with everything RLM said (especially them making out the first 15 minutes of the film out to be nothing but poop jokes when it obviously wasn't), I found some of their points accurate (how the brevity of some of the jokes in GB1 worked better than the seemingly improv stuff of the new one) and found some of their jokes at the expense of the new one to be amusing even if I didn't share their opinion.

I ultimately switched off midway through for the same reason I switched off midway through of the Nostalgia Critic one - I don't need to watch a fucking half-hour to an hour-long review of a film I've already seen.

But no one here seems to be shitting on RLM for their review despite the fact that they hated it and the video is overwhelmingly liked on YouTube, so can we please stop with the "If someone dislikes the film they're automatically a misogynist hurr hurr" narrative? Because, ironically enough, I see far fewer downvotes - at least on YouTube - by those who hate the film than those who like it.

Personally, I can't fucking stand them. They annoy the bejeebus outta me. I tried to sit through a few of their reviews, but I just couldn't. To each their own, but they are super obnoxious and unfunny to me.

To be fair, I'm not big into critics either way. I prefer to make up my own mind about movies, but there are definitely people I enjoy listening to every once in a while, just because their personalities are entertaining, like Jeremy Jahns and Chris Stuckman. They don't always have similar tastes in movies than me, but their videos are usually pretty fun, and they don't give off a snobby film student (and/or jaded/bitter film student) vibe. Helps a lot.

I will never understand the infatuation with RLM, but it doesn't bug me that people like them. I just prefer to parrot my own opinions about a film than a zinger from a youtube critic.

This post took twelve words to make.

Did you know that they're shit reviewers?! Cause I did after that! :p

...oh god

You guys should just bone already. The sexual tension is getting too much to take. It's like fucking Moonlighting in here.

EDIT: Ghostbusters 2 is a fun movie. I love it, and have loved it since I was 9. It has some great lines in it, and Murray's no fucks given performance is just one part of the movie that makes it awesome.

Jay is eh to me, but I think Mike is generally really fair in his reviews; or at least a lot more so than average youtube reviewers. Despite the channel reputation he doesn't, at least in my opinion go into movies actively wanting to hate them from what I can tell.

Nope Ghostbusters 2 gets unfairly shit on. It's a good movie.

it's a big pile of meh, admit it!!

but seriously I do not enjoy Ghostbusters 2. the dr character annoyed me to no end and I didn't like the baby angle with Dana and Venkman. the only memorable bits for me (good memorable) were the statue of liberty part and the slime dancing. imo the movie did not need to exist.

Saw this back on Thursday preview in IMAX 3D. Such a fun film, great with the crowd I had too. Lots of laughter and respectable applause at cameos and references. Genuinely, cannot imagine sitting in that theater arms crossed with a frown on my face like some of these popular youtube critics, like a fucking grump. Also, do not understand criticism of the special effects, they were fantastic and colorful, for once, in 3D.

So do I think CBG is a GamerGator or whatever? No, that's thrown around a bit too much.

This was my only issue with the comments here. That people can think what she's saying is dumb but it's lousy for people to make her and AVGN to be despicable for it. http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?p=210496908#post210496908

RLM is also downplaying the sexism and just poking fun at being called a sexist. They mention Alien, Terminator, Kill Bill, and Star Wars 7 as movies with strong female leads to show that that's not why Ghostbusters is getting such a strong negative response. (Good points I think). So I was honestly predicting that they would get the same insults. I don't see why they wouldn't.

Twitter and YouTube are of course horrible places as CBG points out. But neither her, or AVGN, or or RLM, seem to think that makes up the majority of unhappy Ghostbusters fans. All seem to believe that film is taking a shit on fans of the originals. RLM talks about how the main villain is a ghostbusters fan, which was in the movie before it came out, meaning they anticipated it, and they say it "shows how much the movie hates its core audience." They wonder if Sony was like "Everyone's gonna hate us, so fuck them." Then they mention that they fight against the logo of Ghostbusters. I can't imagine those comments going over well with the people that didn't like the AVGN video or the CBG video.
