Japan Don't Care: New Pokemon Film Debuts to Franchise Low

vinnygambini

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Debuting at number three was “Pokemon the Movie: Volcanion and the Exquisite Magearna” with $3.1 million on 290,000 admissions from 366 screens. This was down 16% on the previous “Pokemon the Movie: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages,” which finished with $25 million.

Pretty sure the movies at the end of a generation do worse, then they rebound at the start of the next one when interest is renewed.

Who the hell are Volcanion and Magearna?

I like Pokemon, but I just play the games. Did they add them later? They aren't on the Pokedex.

EDIT: Volcanion is Fire/Water, now that's a typing I've been wishing for.

They should divide up the movie into hundreds of 30-second snippets

Then, hide the snippets around the real world

To view them, you must find them with your phone!

I didn't know they still made movies following Pokemon: The Movie 2000 (which is likely the number of movies they are up to at this point).

Maybe it's time to change the MC.

Nah, Ash got the most development and maturation of any point in the series with XY and Japan's response has been negative to that. Replacing him would probably only exacerbate the problem. They're probably just gonna revert him to his original hot-headed idiot persona like they did in BW, which was much more warmly received over there.

these movies amd the anime have been in a declining spiral since the start of the BW gen.

the anime overall is tanking and nothing has reversed the trend. maybe it's time to reboot the whole thing and have the game's protags have the spotlight instead of the tired old Ash/Satoshi?
they could do the Jojo approach and have each generation star new protagonists and have old faces as returning characters in support roles to keep fans from the previous gen hooked up but provide fresh characters for new people.

seriously, it's no surprise people are sick of seeing Ash/satoshi do the same crap for 20 years and fail at it always.

Pretty sure the movies at the end of a generation do worse, then they rebound at the start of the next one when interest is renewed.

that used to be true for some past gens but it's been a continuous drop since the BW days.

Welp, time for Legendary's film.

Then the Hideaki Anno reboot.

inb4 they bomb harder.

Ash actually had character development? And they didn't like it? Do they just want part-1-Naruto forever?

The last YW movie declined as well IIRC.

To be fair, that was at a time where YW was declining slightly and had reached its peak.

And the second YW movie still sold way better than this Pokemon film.

I don't see your point other than trying to needlessly argue.
