NPD Sales Results For June 2016 (new format, read OP)

Without additional leaks, these official NPD results without numbers have been relatively useless before, and now it's even worse.

As planned.
Question for you since you seem to be someone who might be able to provide some insight: is NPD still as relevant to actual subscribers as ever? If NPD's plan to become irrelevant to consumers is planned (and working), is that bleeding over to the other side of the fence at all? Just curious

Edit: Oh, I see, the data provided to subscribers is the same as ever. Nevermind then

What I don't get is why can't we have sales group like Japan does with it's exact figures? Is it because we are such a bigger country?

Kirby was the biggest new retail game right? You sure wouldn't be able to tell from what NPD is providing us now.

As ever? No. Nowhere close. Everything used to stop at a pub 10 years ago on NPD day. Now, it's a random email that pops up that I doubt many people even read.

The digital tracking service, and these releases, are supposed to reinvigorate NPD interest. And the idea that some titles on the rankings have digital and others don't is supposed to encourage non-participating publishers to start participating.

What's even the point of this?

The data that people pay for is much more detailed than that, right?

Full by month by platform units, revenue and price for every physical title, and the same for digital distribution on Steam, PSN and XBL if you're a participating publisher.

Mirror's Edge number 5 for revenue? I'm actually a touch disappointed given the original never charted and it's the better game.

I feel like this new chart format doesn't really even mean anything, some games include digital sales and some don't so why even bother at this point?

This new format kinda sucks.

It's pretty bad and as pointed out we'll be seeing just more of the same old AAA titles. Which we were seeing before but if we're going into revenue we'll be seeing a lot more of.

I didn't read the full OP, except around bonded parts, but does this also include DLC/transactions? I'm assuming it does so if we see new DLC months down the line for some games then that could move games like DS3 back into the Top 10 in slow months.

Probably even includes season passes unless games have those double asterisks alongside them.

I know Nintendo doesn't have many third party games, but are eshop games counted? Like the Wii U version of Lego Star Wars?

I fully except GTA V to be on every NPD from here till 6 months after GTA 6 release

I'm just wondering why haven't they dropped single-player dlc. It would most definitely make them back 20x's what they spent on it.

such a weird NPD, i thought the addition of digital sales was gonna a joyous day lol

A Mirrors Edge game in a Top 10 spot wrt. revenue. That just seems too unbelievable. Maybe NPD was confused where to put the comma?

Wow, what a sad report

Bad numbers all around.

Most of the top 10 I either dont care about or bought years ago.

Glad to see ME in there though

What is funny is that there no DD data for UC4 .
And that to leaks we know how much ME Catalyst sold disc wise which UC sold almost twice as much .
Yet thanks to this format ME is above .
People that not paying it going to be hard to figure out stuff thanks to this new format .

Side note i don't ever see Consoles makers giving up there data .

That list is incorrect.

As planned.

If NPD is going to be that secretive, more so than they already were, why release any NPD report at all? Keep everything exclusive to subscribers. Less work they have to do to try and hide things.

This new format is setup for misleading PR speak.

Hmmm...

I wonder the reason or benefit to change console sales reporting. Was there a need to do this?

This certainly muddies the waters now.

It was one of the first game released in June. Even with all the bad buzz Battleborn got, that still charted in May's NPD charts because of its earlier release.

This new format is terrible. So much for insight into how niche titles are doing.

These rankings are a waste of time imo. No platform differentiation, no fun in it.
Sad if you remember the good ole tymes...

Agreed, they might as well stop completely.

Eh.. I kinda like this change honestly. Overall it won't make that much of a difference to the charts I imagine either

This new ranking system truly breaks my heart... Because NPD was such a huge deal to me to know how games and consoles did in one of the biggest gaming market...

Now it's almost useless....

Revenue ranking instead of units sucks

I care about about units numbers, because it potentially tells me how big/small a fan base of certain games that I care about is.
