Shocking News: Pokemon GO hits the #1 top grossing spot on Japanese iOS Appstore

I believe this would be the most successful Western developed mobile game in Japan by an astronomical margin.

Japanese mobile games also are gigantic money makers. The Japanese mobile app market is bigger than the US's mobile app market despite Japan having a notably smaller population.

At its height, the top grossing mobile game in Japan was estimated to be making around $4.2 million per day. The #1 spot is usually at least $2-$3 million per day.

What % of every GO generated dollar do nintendo see? They get some through themselves & a bit through TPC, but do we know how how much?

We know 30% goes to Apple (standard digital platform holder split).

For the remaining revenue, I saw some analyst write out an expected breakdown of 30% Niantic, 30% The Pokemon Company, and 10% Nintendo, though it's worth considering that Nintendo owns 1/3rd of The Pokemon Company, and some percentage of Creatures (who also owns 1/3rd of The Pokemon Company).

And surprisingly, the servers were pretty stable yesterday. Apparently they just migrated all the servers to Japan because they knew shit was gonna go down.

Thanks.

So if that daily $1.6M figure from a few days ago is accurate, they're clearing around $320K per day before whatever they have invested in Creatures Inc is figured in?

Pretty good.

At this point Pokemon GO is likely making near double that per day in Japan alone, but yes, it's a solid income.

That's only in the US also, we haven't heard exact numbers from the 34 other countries as far as I heard.

Yep I'm expecting it's over 10 million a day at this point if it's still top grossing across all the countries where it's released(haven't kept up with how it's holding up across NA, Europe etc)

I just bought 20 bucks worth of Pokecoins just to show my appreciation for the game, I don't even know what I am expending them on (Egg incubator seems the best value)

Edit: SinCity and I thinking alike.

It's hard to believe that the developer niantic would recive 30% of the revenue of a property they do not own. Nintendo should just release how much it's earning to stop all of these guesses.

So... Between the US and Japan, this game will likely make 5M+ a day just on iOS

They'll soon be wondering why hell they even bother with traditional console games anymore.

Right, that plus you've got the appendage sold by Nintendo.

They are the developers, they do all the leg works and also have to keep the game constantly updated and running. Honestly, with so much money to go around, everyone is winning.

Remember that the sizable chunk of change Nintendo stands to get from this is still very small compared to their main traditional video gaming business model.

Doubt that, unless it was only released at noon in Japan.

The app went live yesterday at night California time

It released morning in Japan. It got to #1 by the middle of the night.

Maybe not exactly half a day, but who cares, it's much closer to half a day than 24 hours.
