What's the main line Final Fantasy with the most summons ?
I'm sorry guys,8 seems limited , carbuncle shouldnt count either.

FF6 has the most summons of any game in the entire series.

There are 27 in the original game and an additional four in the GBA / Mobile / Steam re-releases. Then again this makes sense because the Eidolons / Espers were central to the story and about the dimension they come from and being tied to the Warring Triad / Goddess Statues.

Also Carbuncle totally counts and has been a Summon in several games, just because he never did direct damage and casts reflect on the entire party doesn't really detract from his significance in the series history as one of the earliest summon creatures.

FFVI had 27, plus 4 extra on GBA/mobile. None of the others come close.

FFVII and VIII had 16 each, IX had 12, X had 8, XII had 13, and XIII had 6, if I remember correctly.

Summons in XV look a lot more complex though, if Ramuh in the Duscae demo was anything to go by. They're actually huge (with the exception of Carbuncle) and you summon them in real-time (as in, they actual appear in the area you're in, as opposed to existing only in separate cutscenes like in FFVII and VIII), so I'm not expecting very many of them. 8 at most.

I also wonder how it's going to work when you're inside a cave or dungeon. Will summons just not be available?

I believe it was stated that Summon effects will change depending on the environment you are in.

I guess when inside a cave when the Summon cannot full appear they might show up as a beneficial effect on the entire party. Like Ramuh doing lightning enchants on the characters weaponry for the duration of the fight.

In fact something like this was stated in the Game Informer article. - http://gematsu.com/2016/04/final-fantasy-xv-detailed-game-informer

"When you call a summon they won’t always do the same thing. They are entities that exist in the world itself. So depending on the situation they will do different things. For example, Titan sometimes will run up and hit an enemy, sometimes he will throw boulders at the enemy and it’s possible he will even give up and leave the battle. They will also act differently in a dungeon than they will in the overworld."

Bahamut not being a summon would be an extremely wasted opportunity.

Megaflare in this engine is something they don't want to miss.

Tabata also said there were many small ones like carbuncle.

Also Knights of the Round seem to be very relevant in this universe, if they pull that off 10/10.

What happens if you try to summon Ramuh in the dungeon in ED?

Wasn't Doomtrain on one of the artworks for this game?

I want more summons
With KOTR being the last after u defeat all xiii of them

They are literally tje best part of tjis game right now

After sucking in xii, xiii, and xiv in particular
It`s time for summons tonshine again
They were pointless in XII but XIII was awesome. Made summons incredibly personal like power ranger droids or some anime mega special uniquely tied powerup.

But shit, XIII is the punching bag of the series so I might sound like I'm taking a piss to some of u

You don't expect Cerberus from the movie to be in this?

I found them to be quite useless
Though they made for some great looking CG

As cool as Summons/Espers/Eidolons are, their usefulness in each game has always been fluid. That's something that FF has always done well, is changing up how you acquire/utilize summons.

The only games where I still use summons a lot for battle if I go back and play them are FF4 and FF9. As Rydia and Garnet/Eiko's summons are relatively big damage dealers. Whereas in most other games the damage done by Summons becomes obsolete or not worth the time it takes to watch the summon. (with a few exceptions) I love the way FFXII implemented Summons even though I rarely used them, but I liked having to discover them and the lore that was given to them.

For FFXV I would like to see (i've avoided some info, so there might be other summons already confirmed/expected for the game)

Ifrit
Shiva
Ramuh
Carbuncle
Titan
Leviathan
Bahamut
One secret all-powerful summon (like Eden in FF8, Ark in FF9 or KotR in FF7)

It wouldn't really bother me if there are only 8 in the game, but I wouldn't be opposed to them adding more summons as DLC sidequests.

Acquiring Odin like you do in FF4 would be cool, traversing through an old castle to find Odin floors below sitting atop a throne.

The only thing summons were good for in XIII was knocking down giant turtles and healing the party, which was a really uncool place for them to be if you're asking me.

As for seven or eight summons being an underwhelming number, it definitely would be just from series standards. X got away with so few because not only were the summons powerful, they had a full suite of unique abilities to rival a main party member. However, if each one has its own massive boss fight and personality, I think a small number is not only reasonable but enough to satisfy for XV.

I think Doomtrain, Odin, Knights of the Round and the likes will be stablished creatures in the XV universe but not actually summons. My money is on the actual summons being Ramuh, Carbuncle, Titan, Leviathan, Shiva, Ifrit and Bahamut.

I think that artwork was hinting at Siren and Diabolos being actual humanoid characters in this universe. So I would gues Gentiana might be Siren (if she doesn't end up being Leviathan or Shiva) and another character might end up being Diabolos.

I loved the Eidolons themselves in XIII, but the damage they did was obsolete almost the second you got them and they cost enough gauge that you could only use one every handful of battles, at best. You were also limited to the Summon of the character you had set as Leader at the time with no way to switch. Summons were only good for styling on fodder enemies or turning the TP Bar into a free Megalixer.

Just a total mishandling of the concept.

If every Summon in XV has multiple variation depending on where they're invoked, that'll help a lot with the variety. VII and VIII may have had a lot of summons, but they were always the same little cutscenes. If there's, say, 7 or 8 summons in XV, and maybe 5 of them have unique variations based on on environment, and then they happen in real time so you always see the map you're on and exactly where you are in the world... There's going to be a lot of fun combinations.

The female should definitely be Leviathan.
Siren is not a fish / mermaid, and she always has a harp in FF universe.

The concept artist of FFXV also said that he had designed Leviathan as a "refined / elegant female".

I hate, that we got to a point where a game is dismissed just by the looks. And i not even talking about "Gameplay and Story are more important, don't care if the game looks ass if it palys well".

We are so focused on the looks of a Game that we nearly dismiss far more important aspects. The Game still looks great, granted it's no UC4 but how can you seriously say it looks "bad" ?

We haven't gotten to this point. It's been like this forever - there's always a handful of people ready and willing to judge a game before they play it or pick it apart based on what they perceive to be its inadequacies. I guarantee you people were talking shit about other Final Fantasies back in the 90's, somewhere. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Not being exposed to negativity or even initial impressions in general makes it a lot easier to enjoy a game, but it's hard to go in blind with today's constant stream of media.

I don't think it looks bad either; in fact, it looks quite nice.

Relax, she's just asking if you want to accept a quest, and your options are

Yes
No
Have another party member do it

Don't expect this game to have actual dialogue options.

Potential....wasted. Like seriously... potential wasted.

Episode Duscae was amazing, man. Freaking great all around. It also helped me get over arguing over the guy's outfits.
There was this in the Game Informer footage a while ago where you could choose "Ask a friend" (in this case Gladio) and if you did it would strengthen your friendship stat with him plus you'd get a special, temporary stat boost (here it was Attack, IIRC) that helps you for the quest that followed.

Yeah probably, but with games like The Order or Ryse it feels like the main focus is shifted towards impressive visuals.

Unloaded or simply low res textures all over the place, clipping on the bottom right, flat lighting. The rest are nice but why show this?
Yeah, you can clearly see that this game started off as a PS2 game.

That seems to be the crux of the problem. People want Uncharted 4 or The Order level detail but often ignore with large open areas it means the renderer has to concentrate the LOD on a larger environment rather than the graphics render focus on smaller environment with lots of detail, It's simply asking to have your cake and to eat it too.

Some folks need to decide what they want. Uncharted 4 levels of visual detail at the cost of smaller world environments, or large world environments at the cost of decrease in visual fidelity. I don't need to remind everyone the last time we had an FF game focus more on visual detail at the cost of smaller world environments and the reception towards it, i.e FF XIII.

Just consider the alternative. Imagine if FFXV wasn't ever shifted to current gen and was still a PS3 game. It would never look as good as it does now, hell it's debatable if it would even have an open world with a controllable flying vehicle as it does now.

Consider the scope of what they are trying to do in the world with open exploration and a flying car being able to travel almost everywhere. FFXV looks very good all things considered.

FFXV looks good. Period. You don't need "all things considered" or caveats about it being open world. It's easily one of the best looking games this generation (from what we've seen, and I maintain we haven't seen it at its best yet), and will handily be the best looking game ever in its genre.

My main graphical concern is that I feel the lighting and sky boxes have been somewhat downgraded from Duscae. It doesn't give off that same photo realism look that I got from that.

This is probably a screenshot issue. I hope.

One thing that i'm sure will be awesome is the particles. The Meteorain and Raindrops look amazing in the platinum demo.

Those images actually don't do justice to the particles.

O good I'm not the only one who spent an absurd amount of time taking pics. Lol I got one picture with lightning raindrops and meteorain all coming down at once

I should try that! I need to take more pics =p

Using meteorain to explode the barrels from the last area of the demo is amazing!

Shouldn't be long now until we some new footage of the game world. Really hope we get some nice beautiful towns and villages to explore.

Man... This game is just all over the road visually. Some shots/moments look phenomenal. Some others look quite bad.

I'm really hoping for a smooth 30fps throughout. If they can nail that on current PS4 hardware, I'll be impressed.

Lol raindrop and lighting go so fast in order to do it meteorain/raindrops/lightning

I took a bunch of pics of Titan and leviathan

Noct just standing in the rain with raindrops activating in the background. Had a good time

So just like every open world game ever. The Witcher 3 has bad looking places as well, especially on consoles.

Finally got around to playing a few hours of the first FFXV demo on XBO (the one that came with Type-0) - and I'm sold.

This game is pretty great fun - glad I got that speculative preorder in for the Ultimate Collector's Edition!

Unrelated, but... sure as shit this "Sword of the Father" will be something we can use.
Maybe it's one of the "Phantom Swords?"

Super cool-looking sword, and super creepy smile.

Well, spoilers for Kingsglaive.

Guess that might be Regis phantom sword that spawns after a Lucian kings death.

It seems like Noctis wields the sword physically though. Is it possible that all the phantom swords can be physically wielded by Noctis in addition to adding to his Armiger? Or could it be because Regis' sword isn't an ancient relic, it's still in a usable state? Or maybe it falls into a special category like the engine sword, which Tabata stated had special functions.

All I want for this series is for one of the overdressed, ridiculous villains to be forced through some kind of stupid coincidence to have to go talk to Noctis and crew in a burger joint. Like he's trying to be all mysterious and Auron it up and the camera just pans out to someone serving him a burger and fries.

Yes, the costumes clash with the rural America road trip gas stations and diners in some of these shots.

Villain: I have saved him. He was a man who craved power. And great power he had, but he feared losing it. Trembling at unseen enemies, he spent his days--goddamit, I said no onion!
