System Shock Remastered Kickstarter Launched (PC/XB1) | 900K Goal - Demo Available

Just backed this. I was holding out for a PS4 version, and now that there is one, they have my money. I loved BioShock/Dishonored/Deus Ex: HR so I'm pretty pumped to play the game that is supposedly the precursor to these games.

Yeah....PS4 did very little to help out the legs.

End total is looking between $1.3M and $1.5M, assuming it doesn't pull of a Bard's Tale IV last three days (5% of it total funded came from those last three days).

Is Paypal still not an option? Not for me, I already backed it, but it just seems odd that it's not up yet.

They clearly aren't that optimistic, given they've changed the $1.4 million goal and folded what it previously was into the base project.

Have they? I read it but it didn't seem very clear on what was going to happen with the previous version of that goal.

These stretch goals have been quite poorly managed for the entire kickstarter.

So no one of the "har har PS4 demands amounted to nothing" trolls is wondering even a little bit if MAYBE the team managed this issue in a less than optimal way? Really?

If all it took to add PS4 support was a couple weeks more of Phone calls and discussions, wouldnt delaying the start of the campaign have resulted in a more robust KS maybe, insted of having it added when funds were already there and there was no big incentive?

I backed already before someone asks. Always wanted to play this adn impressions from office friends are great.

The original stretch goal is now part of the project regardless of whether or not they hit $1.4 million goal. The new goal is more maps and cyberspace content.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this kickstarter isn't a catastrophe because they seem to be very ambitious with they want to do with the money they will receive from the campaign.

Ambitious? I dunno it's no Star Citizen. At least they aren't adding multi-player or other major changes. Though I do wonder how they tackle cyberspace.

What do you think is particular ambitious?

The only thing I'm at all concerned about is the full game is like 40 times bigger, if not more like 100 times bigger, than the demo. That is a LOT of content to remake.

Well as you've said it it's a big game. Plus they keep adding new platforms and they also want to add new content. That's a lot of work and a lot of extra costs for a studio operating from the United States. I think the big question is how much of that ~1 million (minus the fees minus the backer rewards) will become of their overall budget. If it's only a small percent and if the campaign was added mostly to let people know about the remake, then they should be okay.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited to play System Shock again, but I'll remain a pesimist until the full product is released and everythings works as promised. ;)

1.7 comes with dismemberment. I'm really hoping it hits that!

$1.7 million changed to additional death cinematics a while ago, and the dismemberment goal was removed. I assume this means that they're including enemy dismemberment regardless of whether the goal is hit.

...and Backed. 😁

Knowing how fast projects can go in their last days 📈, I hope they get to 💵$1.4 mil. 💵

I'm under the impression from the private backer chat room that they didn't even create a PayPal account until the game was funded.

That's crazy. I just hope that when it's funded, they get can get it up and running, with the same tiers, and allow for stretch goals to still be hit.

I still can't get over the irony that there are two System Shock games being developed, after Bioshock went down with Irrational (supposedly), despite the fact that Bioshock came out of System Shock being in copyright hell.

The Kickstarter stretch goals are kinda ridiculous.

So they say they are holding the source code for System Shock hostage and won't release it but let it rot unless they get paid two million dollars. They will only add mod support, which is something many games come with for free, if they get two point three million dollars. Death animations and a few extra locations? One point seven million dollars, please.

I realize that without their efforts and Kickstarter money there wouldn't even be a remake, but this game is getting the Corporate Commander treatment, and it's not how an update of such an iconic PC title should have been handled.

They have handled the stretch goals poorly. It's sad, the demo is wonderful.

I'm surprised that 3 people are willing to give 10,000$ for this game. Must be nice to have so much money!

You do realize making all of those costs money, right? Even SS1 source code probably has some major legal fees associated with it. It'd be nice if those weren't stretch goals but then they'd basically end up in a Mighty Number 9 situation where they have to work on many additional features without any budget to support them. I'd really rather the scope of the project match how much money they actually manage to get.

Still annoyed we won't get the soundtrack remix. They should have made this the 1.2 millions goal instead of translated text.

If we aren't get a remix of the original soundtrack, and we aren't getting the new soundtrack they wanted, what are they doing for the music?

Their other stretch goal is full orchestra. Without both goals... i guess it's just going to be new music without orchestra? I don't know. Soundtrack remix sound like a weird goal... I mean, if they can already make music, why not save time and take the original sountrack and remix it? Making new music sound like more effort than this.

Pumped 50 bucks into the KS this morning after playing the pre-alpha demo recently. Loved it for it's eerie atmosphere which wakes memories of it's spiritual successor Bioshock %-)

Played the original game some years ago a bit, but not very far into the game. Very excited for the final product!

I hope I'm not being ignorant here, and I don't think I am, but $1.2 million definitely seems like enough to implement VR, which is getting easier and easier to implement every month if you use Unity or Unreal. It took our guys on the Solus Project like 3 months to implement an 80% functional VR experience. It really wasn't a nightmarishly big time hog.

Other things there seem arbitrary, too - like surely it would be infinitely easier (financially at least) to get the license and remaster the soundtrack than add entire new areas/content?

Honestly in a game like this I feel narrative is the most important thing apart from the overall atmosphere, so I'm glad they reached 1.3 mil :D. Shame about the music though, but I'm sure they'll make due with what they've got.

Earlier in this thread I stated I would support this if there was a PS4 version. Well, I just backed it with a 30$ pledge . First time backing a project as well. Feels good . Hopefully it turns out good.

If that's the case, it seems really strange. Surely it can't be more expensive to remix something than it would be create an entire new soundtrack? It doesn't make sense to me at all, a remix or recreation of the original soundtrack should be what's in the game in the first place.

The point of this kickstarter is to recreate System Shock, the music is an important part of it.

Backed it this morning. For whatever reason I had it in my head that this was PC-only, not sure how I missed the part where it was also coming to XBO (and now PS4).

Better late than never, I suppose. Game looks awesome.

There's 70,000$ left to get to the 1.4 millions goal with 2 hours still.

I'll be surprised if we get it. :(

I suppose that the stretch goals will be reachable after the Kickstarter ends through the PayPal option. Please be the case!
