With this and GCU, I can't see myself buying any games from Amazon again. Box me up and ship me out if old

Over the past few years, they have been implementing a system where local stores can package and ship items via local couriers to get items to people quicker. As an Elite member, it's been great getting items from them (though not as quick as Amazon- I live in the suburbs and Amazon is still able to teleport me stuff in less than 2 days most of the time). I would imagine that this is an extension of that program.

I'm Elite Pluus from last year and just hit Elite again, plus I work there haha. This is a nice benefit :)

Best BUY took most of my game business except for exclusives or games on sale.

Oh shit I just read they cutting the value of the points. Customers are gonna be pissed!

Looks like the value of points to dollars is going down for all but Elite Plus members though...

Best Buy Terms said:
  • My Best Buy members currently receive 1 point for every $1 spent. Beginning Aug. 28, they will receive 0.5 points for every $1 spent.
  • My Best Buy Elite members currently receive 1.1 points for every $1 spent. Beginning Aug. 28, they will receive 1 point for every $1 spent.
  • My Best Buy Elite Plus members currently receive 1.25 points for every $1 spent. There is no change to how Elite Plus members receive points.

Best Buy shipping was always fast anyway. A lot of times I got items in 2 days when I made an order...

Also, game day release shipping has been a thing for best buy for a long time now...I don't think this changes anything.

I just got this email too! I think it's pretty cool that Best Buy is finally trying to compete with Amazon. I've had free two day shipping with Best Buy for years, but it was previously tied to hitting "Elite" status by spending $1500 with them in one year.

Now that I don't necessarily need to hit Elite status for free shipping, I'll absolutely buy all of my electronics from Best Buy. With GCU, Best Buy gives me the same 20% game discount as Amazon Prime albeit without a time limit. Add to that the fact that My Best Buy gives you rewards points for purchases, and having GCU on top of that gives you double points for game purchases. I also have a Best Buy credit card that gives you an additional 2.5 points per dollar spent on purchases. They have too many incentives for me to not shop with them for all my electronics needs.

Yeah, the best part about Future Shop/Best Buy was that they actually tended to get me new releases a day early. RIP their Canadian E3 preorder deals.

Amazon, if you don't have prime, intentionally delays shipping a week or more. This has only started happening in the last year for me and it's obnoxious. I had a Prime trial for my E3 orders and I didn't pick release day shipping, but they've been sending games out in time for release day.

Probably to give more value to their credit card since it gives you 5% back in rewards.

Did that stack with GCU or did the %5 back override the x2 points? I've been recently looking into getting the visa just to maximize my rewards and have had some trouble figuring out how it interacts with GCU.

I was under the impression that they stacked. Not 100% sure though.

This is nice, but I already bought GCU since I don't have Prime and the Best Buy near me is close enough that I'll just drive down there instead of waiting the two days. It could come in handy though.

I saw this come through this morning, and while cool, I have my doubts about how effective they'll be. I've had numerous occasions where they've missed release-day shipping on games, and taken 3+4 extra days to get things to me. Never once was I offered anything for trouble even after complaining.

Amazon has missed deadlines as well, but they almost always offer me a credit for it.

Does this also cover release day shipping like amazon does?

Bestbuy has always had free release day shipping as far as I'm aware.

In general, their shipping has always been pretty fast for me. The $35 minimum can suck though when a random cheap game deal comes up and you don't need anything else.
