I have no doubts that if MS had launched with this and a few policy changes, they would be in a far better position than they are in now.
The absence of the power brick and smaller size is so much better than the original. I went through three power bricks because all of them had an annoying buzz noise unless I put pressure on the top of it.
But well done MS, I sold my Apple TV, iPhone and MBP for a Xbox One and Windows 10 laptop. It's just a shame windows mobile is we're it is right now as I bought a Oneplus 3 instead.

Did they give an idea of when they would be able to? It took me months to get my wife on board with screaming at the TV to control everything, and if it is too many weeks without Kinect, I am pretty sure she will want to keep things the "old school" way and forego screaming at the TV to turn on, turn up the volume, etc.

When I turned the console on and updated, it asked me if I wanted to switch to 4K so I did. I download the Blu-ray player (I still think it's funny this has to be downloaded), pop in Mad Max and get presented with this. Anyone know what's up?

Update your TV's firmware.

Try a different HDMI port.

Go in to the advanced display options on the Xbox One and you can verify that HDR is enabled in there, and also there's a check you can run to verify that the Xbox is properly recognizing your TV's HDR capabilities.

It's a bit more than just a simple cable. Includes a power supply and a breakout box for converting between USB + power <-> Kinect adapter.

I'm digging the new controller. It somehow feels lighter and more refined than the previous. Possibly a bit smaller?

The grips feel good and are subtle. The d-pad is a little less clicky which I like but still not perfect. The bumpers are much improved and are soft instead of clicky and feel more like the triggers. The analogs feel about the same to me.

A worthy PC controller.

Can you provide more details about the bitstream support you mentioned? Will this mean direct bitstream, so Dolby-HD, DTS-HD, DTS-X and Dolby Atmos would be sent to the reciever to decode?

I also hope, that you mentioning this today, means it's a top feature request being worked on right now by the team.

If it wasn't something we were considering strongly, I would not have mentioned it.

It's really more a question of "when" then "if", but I've learned my lesson in trying to predict the future with certainty.

Mostly I wanted to address that it's a request that we have heard, and let people know there is no HW limitation. It's a software update and now it goes into the large bucket of feature requests that the team has to prioritize.

Not sure if it's new, but the wireless updating of the controllers works real nice. Unit itself is really nice, as everyone has already pointed out.

Controller as nice as promised, would have saved myself some money and not bought the Elite controller but oh well.

The interview literally says that apps will be supporting it soon. Amazon has to update their app to UWP and then include the capabilities of 4k/hdr output. I wish it was that easy as soon as something releases, everything supported it on minute 0.

Oh I understand that - but all the press in the run up has been about 4k/HDR from Netflix (as usual they are ready) and Amazon..considering how reluctant Amazon are to do 4k on many other devices I guess we'll wait and see how long it takes them

Nope...disables everything else but active led zones. Now with the previous info, this will be on lock. Thanks again for the info!

Yep I know. I kind of refuse to purchase it on premise alone. I have this accessory that works with the console but I need to purchase a cable for it? Nah. Send me my free cable MS and make it snappy.

So I am setting up the S now. At 40% with applying the initial update. Hardwired into my router which based on an earlier comment I was worried may be an issue. It was not. Shocked how small it actually is. Even saw the pics in this thread, but still very small.

Things almost got ugly at GameStop too apparently. Someone came in to purchase the one and only S they had, which was put to the side for me since I traded in $349 worth of stuff to get it, but it turns out the kid on Sunday put the piece of paper on a regular One. Luckily the kid working there realized that did not seem right since they had plenty of stock of them and called the kid who was working on Sunday to confirm he did indeed mean to put it on the S.
So fortunately I had a very cool and with it GameStop employee realize it made no sense and I still received it. He said if I had come in 15 minutes earlier I would have been able to experience the other person's disappointment than anger first hand.

EDIT - Also, the white does not look as out of place as I thought it would. Still would have preferred black, but it is not that bad, especially with the black bottom. Good call there MS.

Not yet. MS is claiming a firmware update if there is enough interest.

Okay, and I would just use ARC as the audio correct?
That is why I am a little iffy on how to connect it. I never used ARC.
So My TV has a few HDMI in's obviously but only 1 is yellow text and says 4K @ 60hz. That is what I currently have my receiver plugged into. In fact I had to use it to even get the One S to do 4K UHD.
The other one that I would connect my receiver to that has ARC on it says 4K @ 30 HZ.

So XBox One directly into the 4K @ 60 hz one and receiver with everything else into the ARC one @ 30Hz?

I have never used the ARC thing so not sure how it works.

After all the research I did the last few days, I've decided this it the best 4K HDR TV for the price at the moment:

It seems that if you're going 4K, HDR is where it's at and my research basically showed that a lot of these TV's claiming to have it actually don't. I'm also on a budget so I'm not going huge. This will basically just be an upgrade of the 40" Samsung I have in my gaming room now that I bought almost two years ago for $500 on Cyber Monday. They are really nice TV's with amazing picture quality.

Can't wait to dive into 4K. I'm picking up my S tomorrow and hopefully will receive my TV by Friday. Then I'll just need to upgrade my Netflix account to 4K streaming. HYPE!

I don't have that TV but briefly looked at reviews.

While it's a fine TV for the price (seems good for gaming as well), keep in mind that you will not have the noticeable picture quality benefits in actual UHD content.

Wide Color Gamut and HDR are the actually noticeable visual improvements you get with UHD TV's. The resolution is a much smaller addition to overall picture quality, potentially even smaller if you consider your setup. If you sit at a longer distance for your TV you're less likely to notice the increased resolution. 4K alone won't give you that huge "Wow!" factor that WCG and HDR bring to the picture quality. Unfortunately the waters are muddied by people referring to the collective set of all of these improvements being in "4k TV's". Also, many UHD Blu-Ray's may not be mastered in true 4k, and thus the big benefit to them is WCG, HDR and also audio improvements if you happen to have a Dolby Atmos setup (not available in the S currently).

Personally, unless you need a new TV badly and that TV is near the maximum for your budget, I think it's worth holding out until next year. If you get an S, you'll be able to downsample the 4k content onto your 1080p and it will still look very good in the meantime. By next year WCG and HDR should be available in more affordable sets and hopefully something which falls within your budget, or at the very least a refurbished set. Since TV's aren't generally updated often, I think by waiting a bit you'll be much happier for longer by getting the big improvements in UHD and not just the easily marketed one of 4k. This is what I'm doing currently and have the S. Next year is when I'll go for my 4K / UHD upgrade.
