Nothing pains my soul on GAF quite so much as Mario vs. Sonic threads.

Yo, gotta question for you nerds.

What non sonic games have you been playing as of late

Brushing up my Pac-Man CE DX times in anticipation of CE2, mixed with a replay of Order of Ecclesia since Bloodstained is still way off.

I can say the same, though I would put Rev 1 and 2 above it, I realy REALLY like those games. I'm fond of the RE series in general, I even have a soft spot for 6.

As far as music goes, oh hell yeah it did.

Used that in sf4 and 5 as the training room music

I feel like Rev 1 doesn't really hold up too great outside of the ship portions, which are pretty great. Still a decent game, all the same

Rev 2 is so good though holy shit

Rev one had my boys Keith and Quint , they need a whole game, by themselves.

Rev 2 is great though, still did the thing rev 1 did where at the end there is a plot thread that's like " where is that even going?"

when was this happening!? Oh my god!

I also missed that shadow mini comic thing they put up on the sonic channel, its cute.

Quite a few games on my laptop and PS Vita. Playing Black Hole Hazard which is a fun puzzle/shooter on PC & Book of Demons that blends cards and Diablo-esc gameplay on my laptop too for reviewing means.

In addition, plan on playing a lot of Vita games like Grim Fandango Remastered, Patapon 3 (PSP Game), some more of Grand Kingdom (JRPG) and Oreshika (another JRPG).

For Sonic, playing Freedom Planet again and going through fan games like Chrono Adventure & After the Sequel for future Retrospective projects :).

Looked up Book of Demons, Don't know if the game would fit my fancy but I enjoy the art style. As for the Vita there is only one vita exclusive game I want since the digimon game came out on console. And that's persona 4 golden, and i'm not buying a vita for just that.So i'm either waiting for the vita to get insanely cheap, or for it to be ported to the ps4. If atlas had interest in pc, this probably wouldn't even be a problem

I should probably throw my game, into the bin too.

I've been playing final fantasy 14, its amazing. They recently had a yokai watch event, quite fun.

You could get a PS TV (very cheap) and use a Dual Shock 3/4 to play the Digimon game and Persona 4 Golden :). I would recommend you get a Vita though, as you can take it with you when going places and the hardware is really great. Just keep in mind memory cards are pricey :l.

Ooh forgot about pstv, sorry not that interested in portability? Im the abnormal person where outside a few exceptions, being hand held platformers and pokemon, i would rather play it at my house. Especially something like persona.

I own a 3ds amd evem still I mostly play it at home. The most portable I ussually get is ,the laptops I buy are strong enough to run better looking versions of console games on. When im bringing it to a friends place.

Im not even really a fan of phone mobile games for the most part.

I am a very specific weird person, in this regard. The nx greatly interests me for its hand held, home console mix. It will never leave my house

I understand; I mostly play my 2DS and Vita at home myself too.

I think that if you have an interest in the Vita library and don't mind missing out on some titles, then get a PS TV. They are cheap, you can get a 8GB memory card for decent prices and I will be more then happy to help you with Vita purchases, as I know a lot about the platform :D.

I could never get super into Rev 2 like I have the action trilogy. Have yet to play the classic trilogy though so maybe that's why.

I have never actually played Dragon's Dogma, I keep hearing its its an attempt for a more western Monster Hunter, and hear its good.

Yeah people say that but I never really agreed with it. You fight big ass monsters for sure but it's never really the main focus of the game. Most of your time is spent exploring and fighting way more smaller enemies on top of the biggums. It's a straight up action rpg with damn good combat.

While rev 1 and 2 arent as actioney 4,5 or 6, they are much more actioney than classic Re. And I like them, better. Its more of the idea of a classic re pace pushed on modern re rather than actually classic re.

Dogma sounds rad

I plan to finish i am setsuna on my laptop so i can devote time to alpha protocl and swery games
Setsuna is mediocrrrrrrrre
Like it may be fine as baby's first jrpg if there is no other option, but there far better jrpgs to get one into the genre

Ok blasted thru sonic 2 during work and reached metropolis aka green mechanical hell in under an hour
Man i forgo a lot about the proper timings in the stages but the enemy placement isnt an issue long as u remember this-
If on flat ground just spindash, 90% of the time u will take out the badnik if it is in the way

Also unless 3ds sonic 2 bugged it, i di not tecall the seahorse badnik homing in on me like that before 0_o
Also sonic 2 is awesome and putting aide metropolis zone is a blast to play imo
It is rather relaxing long as u go with ur own flow and enjoy the music along the way

I downloaded Pokémon Alpha Sapphire last night and spent about an hour trying to get homebrew and by extension the Star Sapphire rom hack working on my 3DS last night. I never played ORAS but it never interested me, and Rutile Ruby/Star Sapphire is a popular hack that rebalances the game to be more difficult and closer resemble competitive play. The creator dude said he was inspired by Melee 20XX.

All I had to hear was that all gym leaders finally have six Pokémon lol.

There was suppoused to be a ff14 pso2 crossoever thing, I wonder if that happened.

Anywho My mmo crack is 14 now, or whenever I decide to start up DCUO again. I tried to play pso2 but I couldn't get it running , also I can't fashionista in it from my understanding so that sucks

Happened a month or so ago, and is still going. You can now run into Odin in the field and do a special quest that gives him his own arena and plays FF music.

Fashion is 90% of the purpose of the game at this point. There are so many clothes, accessories, special MAGs, weapon camos and designing your own home that it's easily the biggest meseta sink in the game. Try using the PSO2 tweaker to download/install/translate the game for you.

What I find amusing is that the entryway to the Odin fight is even Urth's Gift from the South Shroud, complete with its unique music (which I don't have the name of - the rest of the Black Shroud uses bits and pieces of "Serenity", but not the South Shroud for some reason). Sort of curious as to how much of the South Shroud made it into PSO2 - I'm assuming it's just Urth's Gift, and that you can't go pop over to Quarrymill, or hit up Buscarron's Druthers for a pint.

Did you watch the anime based on PSO2? I thought it was a bit generic but more or less really enjoyable :).
The anime is actually what got me to play the game, I really enjoyed it.

The crossover is in PSO2 now, there's a quest to fight Odin and you can get clothes from FF14 from the real money lottery.
When you say you can't fashionista do you mean you can't play dress up? Because they add new clothes all the time so you totally can. They're added to the real money lottery, but people always put them in the player shops so you can still get them without paying actual money.

The anime made the game look like a lot of fun :D!

I'm glad you enjoyed it, as I personally felt the anime did a good deal right despite being a bit generic sometimes.

Oh so there is fashion, Welp gonna figure out how to play it. Fashion is an extreme motivator for me.

Didnt know the event happened or they just threw urths fount into pso2. I wonder if folks will get a pso place in 14

Overwatch has been an ever present part of my rotation since it came out, it and Rocket League are my current multiplayer fix with friends with a slight bit of Street Fighter 5 on the side.

Monster Hunter Generations is indeed more MH, I suppose I'm also still sloooowly crawling through FE Fates Conquest but heck my playthorugh of that was derailed by Boxboy of all things which was waaay better than I expected.
Hey was it here in Sonic GAF a few years back where I was like "nah Aero, those anime antics in FE Awakening wont get that much worse, you're overreacting" because evidentially I was wrong, serve me up some crow and have me endure poop tier characters as a result.

Back to consoles, Strider, of the modern variety that is, kinda brainless yet engaging enough metroidvania (I also went back to the Mega Drive one and just left bamboozled)
Just picked up Ratchet & Clank and Doom for PS4, the first of these is definitely more Ratchet alright. Doom is mainly here because GAF hype so we'll see how that goes, the demo was a solid teaser.

Most of my replays have been a swathe of Kirby and then Sonic titles.

I actually beat Planet Robobot a week or two ago, and a certain bonus boss fight inspired me to play Dream Land 2 again. What a lovely little game DL2 is.

I forgot that Kirby had a bunch of "shitty friends" too.
The best shitty friends, bring back Coo and Nago!

Playing it for the first time last year it held up waaaay better than I expected it to.
Some of those collectables were straight up BS, judging by DL3 and 64 that was something of a running trend with this streak of Kirby games.

DOOM is legit great. One of the most pleasant gaming surprises I've ever had.
I feel like thats a very apt description for that game. I felt a lot of people thought it would ne garbage, and then it wasnt.

Good case for embracing stupidity unapologetically.

Nope, we get Yo-kai Watch stuff instead.

I hear Schala's a huge fan of it. (teehee)
That drk weapon is ace

I forgot that Kirby had a bunch of "shitty friends" too.
Whens my metaknight with the Spanish accent character action game.

I also missed that shadow mini comic thing they put up on the sonic channel, its cute.

Been replaying the Resident Evil franchise starting with 6.

After mulling over it (I'm gonna do a full LTTP in the RE community thread), my final scores seem to stand at:

Leon/Helena: 7.5 (least amount of bullshit, but my original score was over inflated. The level design simply does not adequately supplement the gameplay)

Sherry/Jake: 6.5 (pacing issues, more QTEs, Chapter 1 turret section, mother fucking chapter 2, Chapter 4 helicopter section, and so on)

Chris/Piers: 4 (Really shitty Gears clone)

Ada: 6 (It's alright)

Mercenaries: 9.5 (fucking love this combat system)

If they hadn't have fucked up so bad with Chris' campaign I could easily call it a 6.5/10 game with a really rockin' extra mode that I'll continue playing. A shame for a title bearing the Resident Evil title, but nothing to get over the top about. But no. Chris' campaign was so actively dreadful that it drags the whole game down to the 5.5/10 range. I never want to play Chapters 1, 2, and 4 again while Chapters 3 and 5 are still mediocre.

Edit: Took out the quotes. Think I overdid it.

As re6 is concerned while i actually enjoy that game i see the issue in the level design.

As far as chris goes, his whole campaign is sort of complely irrelevant like to the plot and to the game itself. It could have went went with out it. The game story would play better if it did.

Chris shows up at the ebd of leons campaign and could have been interesting surprise cameo. And for jakes he the Europe part could have had peirce as a campaign cameo had him casually mention his commanding officer not being there then chris show up to help them at the end. And had more suprise impact with him showing up

He didnt have to be playable, it would better off if he wasnt and then you unlocked him in the extra modes

Honestly I've been struggling to get it working lol. Never hacked my 3DS before.

https://projectpokemon.org/forums/s...ld-Encounter-options!-New-Video-Install-Guide

Follow up to this, I finally got it working and got my shit rocked by Roxanne (1st gym). Went in expecting to sweep with Grovyle - Shuckle immediately traps him with Infestation and slowly murders him. Whittling away at Shuckle with Shellos and she switches to a Lileep that swept what was left of my woefully unprepared team.

She had four other Pokémon I didn't even see.

So yeah it's pretty rad I highly recommend it. I like that the encounter rates are tweaked and the national dex Pokémon are unlocked from the start.

"mario, easily"

"sonic, easily"

god damn it gaf. we're comparing two of the greatest. neither wins easily.

Idk I think Sonic takes it by a large margin. Mario's got one game that's a major contender, plus a few more only if you count spinoffs.

That Mario vs Sonic thread is kind of silly because:

1) This discussion has occurred on this forum for years
2) It tends to boil down to Genesis vs SNES soundchips after a while
3) That particular thread doesn't have any sort of discussion outside of a select few people, particularly because people are going "oh it's obviously this" without saying why. Like most threads of that calibre. I mean, we could have had a similar vein of discussion in the 4th gen thread, but, well, we all know how that turned out.

As for my answer to that thread, I think most familiar with me would know exactly where I stand on the subject. :p

Real talk: I look at thread titles or whatever thread someone links to me because good lord...

Nope, we get Yo-kai Watch stuff instead.

I hear Schala's a huge fan of it. (teehee)
I got the manjimutt book and it describes how I feel about the event:

ashasunblade08_06_2010dudm.png

(Read: I hate it. Repetitive as crap. Just like every other Level 5 game.)

But for the most part, I think the weapons suck because most glamours don't go with them, and they're way too gaudy outside of the DRK weapon (and maybe the AST weapon since it's super-hard to screw an AST weapon up). I made the Scholar one seem not-half-bad, but the Not!Renamon knives are uhhhh... Either way, I think the event is p. trash and a lot of folks I know feel the same because it's literally Atma/Anima farming again using a similar process. So it's kinda like we do it when we have nothing to do (good example: we haven't done much raiding or extremes lately cuz one of us doesn't have internet right now, so some of us are doing the YW stuff). One person I played with likes Yokai, but she said that they didn't put much of a variety of yokai in the event and it's underwhelming to her.

I'd rather get a PSO2 event or at least something in return but we won't. At least Aero told me that the event fight is kind of the same as the trial version outside of rotating AoEs. The rotating AoEs seem kinda fun, even if it's a melee DPS's worst nightmare, lol.
