If he's on iPad, the feature appears to have been removed in March of this year. I have no idea if it was ever added back though.
Yeah I'm on iPad. I also have it installed on PC but I primarily okay on iPad, the option to redeem is there but greyed out, so unusable. I wonder why they removed that feature...

Redeem code was disabled on iOS as Apple considers it an in-app purchase that they aren't getting a cut of. Yes it's weird because it's tied to a physical product only, but that's their policy and so it's disabled on iPad with no intention to enable it again until Apple's policies change.

You just have to do your codes on PC. It is an important feature, for a new player the best way to get into competitive constructed and out of theme deck hell is to buy bulk codes online.

so I've been playing a Psychic only deck with a gengar EX and BPT Trevenant being my main sources of damage, and I'm wondering what you guys think about me buying the cards to transfer it into real life. I really like the trevenant and his energy control. The only thing that sucks is that up to now, the way I play the deck was fairly reliant on Hard Charm, but I feel like adding some Trevenant BREAKs to the deck is a good way to mitigate that. Unforunately, Gengar EX and hard charms are rotating out in September, but I'll find a way to replace them I suppose :(

I'm not gonna lineup the full decklist, cuz it would mostly be staple trainers, but I'll give an idea of what i'm thinking:

3x Trevenant BREAK
4x Trevenant (Breakpoint)
4x Phantump
2x Sigilyph (Breakpoint)
1x Audino EX/Espeon EX? maybe

As for out of the norm trainers, probably:

4x Team Flare Grunt

And then the usual suspects like N, Ultra Ball, Sycamore, etc.

I know it wouldn't be top tier, and apparently the Trevenant that's rotating out was much better than this Trevenant, but it's a deck I've really been enjoying. Online I usually use a couple of Snorlaxes to tank for me while I build up my Trevs/Gengar, but I figure Sigilpyh can fill a similar role with his reflective shield, and do a decent amount of damage while he scapegoats.

Edit: Here's the decklist for the online version of it that I'm using currently. The nidoking line is pretty useless, and I should probably just ditch it altogether.

most booster packs have a negligible number of booster packs. you really only get them from decks and trainer boxes

I'm sorry booster packs have negligible number of booster packs?

ive actually made this whole rpg game to play with pokemon cards by myself...lol i had way too much time on my hands when i was younger and nobody really into it like i was .. not much has changed lmao.

YES. I've been looking for a way to ease my kid into RPGs, he loves to create games in his head with his cards. A Pokemon rpg would be amazing

I have a couple questions.
How do the formats work in this game? Is it always just all the cards in the most recent generation (this one starting with XY), or does it change up every year or so? I'd imagine there will be a big shift at some point when cards from the next generation of games start coming out, right?
Secondly, I saw a bunch of preconstructed theme decks at Target and I was wondering if those were any fun to use for casual play. I play Magic and I know their Intro packs are almost always super trash, is it any different for Pokemon? I'm just looking to pick up a couple of them so I can play with my girlfriend.

Their theme decks suck. Get the battle arena. Those are great and come with good staples. Formats are rotations. The next rotation after world's will likely rotate xyz - phantom forces out.

There's a few different formats to the game. Standard, Expanded, and Legacy. Standard and Expanded both work like other traditional card games, where Standard is a certain number of the newest sets, and Expanded allows you to go back a bit further. I'm not quite sure what Legacy entails because I've never played it, but here's the upcoming rotation for Standard and Expanded play.

In any card games like Magic the Gathering, I usually prefer the Expanded format because you get a bit more mileage on the cards you buy, but Standard is often the normal tournament format.

Just like with Magic the Gathering, preconstructed decks for the Pokémon TCG are also trash, but they get the job done as a fun introduction to the game. I say go for it if you just want to pick it up and play with your girlfriend.

Anyone ever buy elite boxes off of Amazon? Considering getting a Breakpoint box but I'm worried about weighing.
I just bought the new one yeah. Prime so it was free. What's your concern exactly? Mine actually did come with one of the corners dinged but I don't really care enough to bother about it.

Just whether sellers are trustworthy or if they weigh boxes to figure out which have secret rares in 'em.

Not sure if you'd be able to weigh a box like you could a pack, but I'd assume you could.

So I tired out the online game, played a couple of the trainer challenges and didn't have too many issues there.

Went to versus mode and the first opponent I face hits me with a MewTwo EX and a whole host of other powerhouses. Similar story with most other opponents. This is not a newbie friendly game at all.

I really miss the short-lived Shining Pokémon. The cards had this cool foil texture that hadn't been used up to that point, and the way they shone was either super bright or super dark, which was a cool contrast to the non-foil backgrounds. We sort of got something similar with the unique textures of full art cards, but it's really not the same. Decided to take some pictures of two of my favourites.

Anybody here have shadowless base set cards? If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a picture of two cards (one with the shadow and one without):

Most base set cards that people own (like 99% of every owned card) had the shadow graphic. The shadowless ones are the original printed cards and are worth far more than the shadowed cards. I only have one shadowless card, which was my first Pokemon card.
This guy (which I got by complete random chance):

Edit:Oops, sorry Anony, didn't see your cards in your post!

Yeah. Shadowless base was my first completed set. Funny thing is that the Machamp in the original starter deck was guaranteed to be a 1st edition card, so they kept using the 1st ed stamp even when they switched to shadowed cards. It's like, "Bitch! This ain't no real 1st edition!"

If I ever get around to it, I may post some pics from my collection.

[edit] Why is it that I have a "Mental Might" psychic deck in my Deck Manager, but it is not available when I go to Trainer Challenge?

I posted on the first page or two with a link to the ones I had. Really fun seeking those out and I still keep an eye out for any that pop-up around Craigslist.

I used to play a ton during Black and White Era and loved it. Only quit because I was spending too much money on it but I installed tcg online today and it looks great. I kinda want to go in blind and not look into the sets too much but are there any that are must buys or completely worthless? I'll probably only be playing Standard format

Also is there any way to get a decent amount of tokens? I couldn't believe packs are 200 tokens. I probably played for 2 hours today and only accumulated 50

I never knew about the Shadowless feature and I have a couple good cards that fit that description! One is a holo Poliwrath and the other is a Pidgeotto. Thanks for the heads up!

If you've got a 1st Edition Base Set card it's shadowless.
Unless you have a fake.

Got a free booster pack for TCG Online for the daily bonus. It was one for Breakthrough and my first for the set. Had a Mega Mewtwo Y full art :D

Thanks for answering my previous questions, guys.
I decided to try out Pokemon TCG Online since it's free and it's been fun except for the bugs.
Is there anything you can do when the game locks up and nothing advances? You can still interact with the menus but you can't do anything meaningful. It seems to happen a lot at the end of the game which has ruined a some game wins I've had. Boy it feels bad to spend 20 minutes winning then not getting anything for it.

That's awesome! My Machamp is actually from the original starter deck, and just as you described it.

Can't believe i missed your post! All first edition, too! I got my Pikachu card with a promotional Pokemon videotape containing the first episode when I was a kid, and Pokemon was first invading the US. I think they were being given away at my local Toys "R" Us.

Can somebody link to a place where I can buy cards for the digital game? I'm at a loss of where to look. I think somebody mentioned they are cheapest somewhere on Reddit?

If you're just interested in the newest set (to open or trade with) this site is the cheapest I've found so far when you buy 50 codes at once. Just 40 cents per pack that way.

Edit: Just looked in my mail and found this code you can use to get a discount on checkout: TCGenCodes

Going to quote myself from a few pages ago because I still have some codes to sell. Already made sales with Anony and QisTopTier in this thread.

I can sell them for maybe like $0.35 CAD per code?

BW Legendary Treasures (x25)
XY Flashfire (x45)
XY Furious Fists (x19)
XY Phantom Forces (x119)
XY Primal Clash (x00)
XY Ancient Origins (x30)
XY BREAKpoint (x00)
XY Fates Collide (x00)

Price works out to $10.50 per 30 codes for anyone wondering.

What's the usual lag time between a new big release like Steam Machine & its themed decks being available to buy for points in the online app? My daughter's itching to spend some banked points on a deck.

I'm only just getting back into the TCG so I'm not sure how long a lag there is/or if there is one. But when I log in it mentions that there is a bug with Ninja boy card which is in both of the theme decks, so maybe they are waiting for that to be fixed before they make the decks available.

Well, if you buy the physical deck right now, you can redeem the code & get the deck. Just not a straight purchase with points. I mean, it makes sense to encourage you to buy the physical deck or randoms to get cards from it... I just don't like it :)
