Wait what so this is a remake/re-imaging of the the Return of Samus for the Gameboy?

So the sane way to play the series in 2106 is....

Metroid Zero Mission
This Game
Super Metroid
Metroid Fusion

?

Red doors can be open with only one missile, and you can quickly skip the messages which are shown when you get new upgrades.
Those are little things, but they improve the gameplay experience.

Woo-oo! First energy tank!

Controls are horrible on my xbox one gamepad (especially analog movement, too twitchy), so i switch to keyboard, gameplay is perfectly fine.
PS - i recommend switch to 4x scaler instead of stretch for perfect pixels.

Playing with a DS4 controller here, and it is perfect so far (playing with the dpad, not the analog stick). Though, as previously mentioned, some may want to do some button mapping depending on their preferences.

Yes. Chronologically Other M comes before Fusion, but it's better to experience Fusion first.

Man, so many control options!

First, has anybody tried the 8bitdo SFC30? It doesn't seem to detect it natively via directinput, but supports Xinput controllers just fine and has corresponding buttons.

Second, with all the various control options, I'm having trouble deciding what I want to go with. Right now I'm going with Fusion/Zero Mission style R to missile, but I might change it to Super Metroid L to aim up/R to aim down and A (SNES layout) to toggle missiles.

I completed Metroid 2 Return of Samus on the Gameboy for the first time earlier this year. First Metroid game I even beat too. I went all JUSTIN BAILEY on the first game. =D

I cant believe metroid 2 dosent suck so hard now.

Really? It played fine on the GB for me. What about the original didn't you like?

Does anyone know where the save games are? I'm going in a trip soon and I want to take my savegame with me on Dropbox.

got some screen tearing and don't know if I can trust the VSynch the game offers. I'll see if NVIDIA stuff works when I add the exe in the Control Panel.

That's the chronological order of the 2D games. If you bring in the Prime series:
  1. Metroid Zero Mission
  2. Metroid Prime
  3. Metroid Prime 2
  4. Metroid Prime 3
  5. Another Metroid 2 Remake
  6. Super Metroid
  7. Metroid Fusion

Anybody can point me how to connect a dual shock 3 or a Wii u pro controller to Windows 8?

And people, who cares about the chronological order of the series. The important thing is the evolution of it's design.

Well, that was one very generous room filled with Missile Tanks. I am a little wary now, since video game logic dictates that generous upgrades are given before a tough fight.

Here. Obviously there's the cost but... honestly it's worth it. Basically flawless.

It tears to me even with Gsync on which is incredibly weird. Had to change to Non Fullscreen.

Comment about an upgrade (still very soon in the game, 3rd "major" upgrade):

Well, I wasn't expecting to unlock the Spider Ball so quickly. I wonder if it is the same in the original game.

As i never played the original NES game, does zero mission vaguely follow the layout of the NES game?.....as im guess the NES version didnt actual have any story parts to the game at all?....or is zero mission nothing like the NES game really?

This is exactly how it was even in the original Metroid 2.

I've played the Gameboy original not too long ago.

Aside from some very welcome quality of life improvements like the ledge grabbing the full color palette (and not the dull olive green gameboy palette I mean).

This is pretty much a very good remake that respects the source material it Nintendo themselves released a GBA version of Metroid 2 much like how Zero Mission is essentially a remake of the original NES Metroid.

Wow, just wow. This plays incredibly well, it just flows and controls wonderfully and it is already so full of atmosphere.

I'm up to the first Metroid and it's just a blast.

Played the original Metroid 2 when it first came out. Completed many times. Only played 15 minutes so far and I have to say, I am blown away with how much work went into this thing.

Yeah, you get the Spider Ball roughly that early as well in the original.

Zero Mission is a pretty faithful remake with some REmake esque twists to fuck with experienced players of the original.

Argh, do I want to play with a DS4 so I can have aim up/down on L2/L1 and hold missiles on R2? I never liked toggle missiles in Metroid games, but I also want to play with my SNES controller, and I'd have to choose between aiming up and hold missiles or aiming up/down and toggle :(

Zero Mission in terms of structure is pretty spot on with the NES original. the biggest difference is that after the Mother Brain segment a whole new part of the game was added that did not exist in the NES original. Whether this addition was an improvement or not is up for interpretation. I'm talking about the Zero Suit Samus portion when it plays like a stealth game needing to hide from the Pirates and trying to get your suit back.
