Time we spead this fanmade classic peeps. This game deserves to be played by every metroid fan! The team did such a great job with this remake if Nintendo should do anything they should make it official. Its that good!

It's still up on the AM2R website. In any case, it's too late Nintendo! I ALREADY HAVE IT ON MY COMPUTER...YOU LOSE!

Someone posts some quotes from that other thread.

"Ummm, Nintendo doesn't take down these files because its free!! Durp da derp derp!"

Grabbed my copy at the 0 hour pretty much. And I am more than willing to supply other people with a copy if they want one (unless it's against forum rules in which case I will not).

I'm surprised they're going after AM2R - all these years and nothing until release? Downloaded my copy and saved it just in case.

Edit - Oh this is just a fanhosted website? Never mind then.

Didn't I see a bunch of people in the other thread saying they won't get a DMCA since nothing was for sale?

It's the classic hardcore Nintendo fans saying 'Nintendo never does X', only for them to immediately do X.

It's almost clockwork at this point.

OH COME THE FUCK ON

Why even bother it's too late anyway! The game is out there, you can't stop it!

Maybe that was the plan all along? They wanted to take it down, but they liked it, so they purposefully waited to take it down until it was too late to permanently kill it.

Just being an optimist.

I never got a chance to take a look at it. Been busy all week.

Did it run in emulators or something? Or was it its own executable file?

I understand why they did this. This Remake, especially now at the 30th birthday of Metroid makes Nintendo seem really incompetent in how they've treated the franchise.

how?
were the prime games mega sellers? makes it financial sense to make a new big budget metroid? does retro even want to make one?

That account has nothing to do with the AM2R website. The main website is still running and hosting the files.

Fake tweet... lol

I just downloaded the torrent to check: http://metroid2remake.blogspot.com/

It's still up.

Metroid database != am2r site?

Edit: I guess no one reads fourth post, huh?

Who is metroid database? They're not the AM2R site, so who are they?
Metroid Database is probably the "biggest" Metroid fansite. Biggest is relative, of course, since it's such a niche series! :p

If they got a takedown request, it's probably only a matter of time until the game's site does, too.

This one, for one - it's been in development for 7 years, the demo's been available for 3 years. Also a bazillion Super Metroid hacks, there's a PC Mario World editor with lots of levels, Mother 4...

Super Mario Crossover.

A bunch of other hacks using Nintendo assets - including all the Kaizo Mario stuff.

I know everyone is all "Boo Nintendo!" over this, but why wait until it was already out for a day? They knew it was being released for how long? Does anyone else feel like this is something that they have to do for Copyright protection reasons? Why else would they wait until it had already been spread around before having it shut down?

i suspect nintendo actually "supports" the project, thought it was a neat thing for the fans but knew it couldn't fly for litigation reasons so they waited until it was out in the wild before bringing down the hammer.

really no other reason they'd wait so long imo

I wonder if they did it on purpose, wait a few days to let it release while still taking the necessary steps to make it seem like they are protecting their IP. I mean this project had enough coverage over the years, and its release was announced.

Wait. The game is still up... I am confused?

Yeah the thread is misleading. It was never taken down from the main site (yet), just whatever Metroid Database was hosting. See:

I just downloaded the torrent to check: http://metroid2remake.blogspot.com/

Who is metroid database? They're not the AM2R site, so who are they?

I'd go download it now just in case though if you guys are interested.

They are but the fans don't want it

Give a starving fan base a game with vanishingly little in common with the one they want and then stuffing it into a Metroid sweater, and yeah. They'll be upset.

Spin offs are better received when a fanbase doesn't feel neglected to begin with.

The first game broke 2 millions, but the 2nd one wasn't even a million seller, and Metroid Prime 3 stalled around 1.31 millions. Metroid Prime 1 is the best selling Metroid game.

Edit: Wait, now I can't find a source confirming that Metroid Prime 1 sold more than 2 millions.

I hope the Streisand effect comes into play and more people are made aware of/find a way to play it.

Hell, if Nintendo had released this A) i wouldnt have known the difference B) i would have been MORE than happy to pay the full price for it.

everyone should get a chance to play it. the game is marvelous and its more than i could have ever asked for in a metroid 2 remake

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
STOP ENJOYING METROID REEEEEEEEEE

Still up from the original source and being available through torrent so this doesn't mean shit.

dumbfucks still gonna feel vindicated and I guess that matters more to them than the actual game you can play though

so it's a series on a downtrend with a pretty low ceiling? i can see why they didn't make one for the WiiU where dev costs would be higher than they were for GC/Wii and a lower install base. but fuck nintendo right?

Good guy Nintendo. Waited until after release to shut them down.

Sends a pretty clear message that they need to protect their IP, but don't really mind if the game is out there.

I would make a snarky point about Nintendo not providing a Metroid game people want, but eh. The point here is that they'll never catch this project now--kind of ironic, really.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Shuffle up, Streets of Rage Remake. You got company on the "Amazing fan-made games that made their respective corporations piss themselves" bus.

What do people mean when they say that Nintendo has to protect the ip for legal reasons? How does it work?
