Gameblog.fr: PS4 Neo to be announced on September 7 in New York

What if native isn't the most effective way to render things at a resolution?

Mmh... it is ? I mean, native is by definition the most effective way for a clean IQ. Everything else is PR or damage control.
4k means 3840 × 2160. If it's not, it's not 4k.

Idk, I'm a gamer I don't ride with just one company and neither do my friends so I guess I wouldn't be starting from scratch (but some people would and I understand their hesitation to get both) and I'll be able to play my Xbox one games on there. Price doesn't matter if performance puts Sony in the under performing category until ps5.

I see it like this
Scorpio > Neo
Ps5 > Scoprio
Scorpio 2.0 > PS5 etc etc etc

and that's the market cycle I see happening.
It's possible Sony pulled the trigger too soon (imo) with neo, time will tell

So you do have time to game after all.

You're forgetting that there's already 2x the PS4 owners out there and most will either sit tight until PS5 or upgrade to Neo, some may migrate as you suggest but that will be a minimum...but the fact still remains that Scorpio will have no true exclusives, at least Neo will.

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
Well that's all well and good, just don't call it 4K then?

I thought 1080pr would've taught us that.
He probably means the technique like checkered rendering used in latest Rainbow Six. I'm not sure what to call that other than "1920x1080, using checkered rendering".

If September 7 is true for an announcement/unveiling of PS4 Neo, that would mean invites for press should be arriving very soon right? Of course, invites of such nature could very likely be coupled with an NDA.

Well it definitely wouldn't, because it'll struggle to run most AAA games at true 4K at more than 20fps.

I just think it'd be lame if they named it PS4K and it's just "Well, most indies run at native 4K, and the other games are upscaled to 4K. But trust us Sony fans, they're virtually identical".

Smoke and mirrors is Sony's game, but it gets tiring you know?

Sweet Sweet Fantasy (XV) baby!!

I won't be able to afford it with a bank balance currently in the unspeakable territory (I'm a student if that's a worthy excuse) but just good to know some day I will play XV on the neo! Normal PS4 version will do for now though!

I really hope they upped the rumoured specs!

How long before the PS4 Playstation meeting were invites sent out? You probably have the answer. :)

Also possible MS is pulling the trigger too late. Sony is already the market leader and has had the narrative of "more powerful" all along. Now they may be getting a year's head start with an even more-more powerful option. That makes a decision for someone like myself more difficult. Wait for Scorpio and eventually enjoy the best looking games next year but possibly/probably with smaller online communities in MP games? Buy the Neo and enjoy better looking games a year sooner but knowing that it will be outclassed next year? Buy them both?

Another source indicated to VICE Gaming that finalized development kits would be sent to developers around the same time.

Hmm... maybe it's slightly further away than I expected then. Figured it would release within a month of this event, but if final dev kits are only shipping around the same time, that might be a bit tight for launch software.

Or maybe October titles will have slightly earlier access to final kits, and the above refers to general availability of the final kit.

Is it actually going to release this year if what Patrick says is correct?

One source, who chose to remain anonymous, described the upcoming event as a "technical showcase." As recently as a few weeks ago, Sony was still nailing down what would actually be shown.

Dev kits going out in September for a release this year?

Final devkits. I'm pretty sure devs have had devkits for this thing for a while now. At least working on machines to spec. That said this could be anyone's guess as to when it will release. I would think they'd want to get it out in time for the Holidays.

Hype aside, I expect the games to look identical to OG PS4 games, but with better framerate. With that being said, I hope they blow my low expectations away.

Many rumors were saying Dev kits were already out. If so, how much different can we expect these "finalized" kits to be from those already in hand?

how reliable is this klepek fellow? isnt he a youtuber? grain of salt and all that

2017 it is

I'm not interested in the hardware, but I hope we get some software reveals/news on the side. Since they're skipping Gamescom again (in terms of conferences), this event could serve as a replacement.

"Finalized".

Multiple studios I know have had dev kits for a little while now.

Would you say that is the norm for new hardware then? They have been bulding the games to what they expect the specs to be and as of September they can finalise them and get the games out for the latter part of the year then?

Dev kits go through spec revisions all the time (before 'finalized'). So yes, they had kits out, but they were not 'finalized' hardware.

So maybe there was some tweaks, who knows. We will find out soon enough.

Yes. Happened this gen, hell, it happened with the initial OG Xbox. Final kits went out a month before launch.

so a 2017 release?
