Can you read? That's a blog post written by a reader! The staff has nothing to do with that.

And people have to learn the difference between reports (of stuff we saw elsewhere) and posts tagged "INFO GAMEBLOG" that contain information that we've gotten from our sources.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Gameblog was (for example) the site who broke the news that Julien Merceron (Kojima Productions) had left Konami right? Did we just invent that?

Did Gameblog invent that Assassin's Creed 5 would take place in Paris and reveal the name of the character?

Those are just two examples.

You really should stop......your attitude despite the shit getting posted against you, really doesn't make me want to give you site any clicks period just because of how defensing you are getting to a site you work for.

They'll be leapfrogged by MS holiday 2017, and then they'll probably leapfrog MS themselves holiday 2018. And so on and so forth. This will be the model going forward. Iterative consoles with full forward/backward compatibility. I'm all for it.
Nah, I don't expect Sony to go full on iterative like MS seems to be doing. I expect a mid-gen refresh at best, with still the traditional generations. I wouldn't be surprised at a ps5 launch in 2019 or 2020 that is not forward compatible with the ps4/neo, whereas whatever MS releases around that time will likely have to be forward compatible with scorpio at least.

I think this is the model too but I think there will be more time in between revisions. Probably more like:Neo

Neo - 2016
Scorpio - 2017
PS5 - 2019

Going off what Shawn Layden said don't expect them to leap frog MS till 2019.

Not much leap frog if both company stick with AMD roadmap. They only can use whatever AMD able to produce.
Unless someone break bank to sell at lost, it will be very predictable for everyone.

I kinda wish they could a shown at gamescon or something, now I feel like September 7th is a long ways away. And though I don't expect a 2017 release. I just can't see a " it's available tomorrow!" Thing. Wish I didn't care about playing XV on a better console lol.

If the PS4 Neo is mostly focused on 4k rendering via checkerboard, etc, I think people with just 1080p tv's are going to be in for a big disappointment. The only difference will be in frame rate since rendering at 4k means they won't have the horse power to add in extra effects as the Neo gpu upgrade isn't that great compared to Scorpio.

You can't be sure about that.

Going off what Shawn Layden said don't expect them to leap frog MS till 2019.

Sony announced by themselves in front of their investors that they aren't going to follow the path of Iterative consoles.

Both MS and SONY have their own different visions.

My timing is probably a bit aggressive but I DO stand by the thought that the console after Neo will be backwards compatible with Neo, and the Neo will be forward compatible with it, with the standard PS4 being decomissioned. And then the console after THAT will be compatible with Neo's successor, but not Neo. Etc.. Etc..

Sony Interactive Entertainment President Andrew House has today revealed more info about the PlayStation Neo during Sony’s Investor Day in Tokyo.

He mentioned that this is the first time that Sony will ever offer a hardware upgrade in the middle of a PlayStation’s life cycle. Although, he went on to say that this doesn’t mean that they’re going to do regular upgrades like we’ve come to know in the PC and Mobile industry. Nor does it mean that we’ll see a generation hardware change.

http://press-start.com.au/news/play...hift-regular-hardware-upgrades-like-mobilepc/

And I don't think we will have PS5 before holidays 2020... if anything Neo and maybe PSvr will make the life cycle of the PS4 longer not shorter.

Sony went for 7 years life cycle for a long time now ( with the PS3 -> PS4 also PSP -> Vita ).

The console after Neo is probably PS5... and if PS5 is a BC then it will be with BOTH PS4 and Neo because they are THE SAME console with THE SAME games digitally AND physically.

And no Neo won't be FC with PS5 because Sony still sticking to their console life cycle and it's working for them so darn well.

Plus PS5 will probably be a huge jump techs wise like true gen jump, they won't be hold back by a last gen techs like they always did with PS2 and PS3 and PS4 and Vita.

I hope Sony can actually produce a convincing case for the Neo. They need to go hard with comparisons that show the benefit of extra power for both existing and future titles.

GT Sport is their ace this holiday, so I expect it to get a lot of attention. But i'd expect the usual as far as games releasing from October through the beginning of next year. And almost certainly there will be a few completely new announcements. One big question will be whether FFXV will be in there. I believe it technically releases before the required Neo version of the game, but it's certainly be beneficial to Square to get an improved version up and running on it.

I still don't understand why Sony is releasing a new console this year. I was always convinced they did it because Microsoft was working on a new console but since that one will probably release a year later, even that doesn't make sense anymore. It just seems like a very bad decision. They are doing great with PS4 so why not wait and release something more powerful and closer to Microsoft's specs next year. I can't believe they are just going to go ahead and watch themselves being outdone in a big way spec wise next year. It just doesn't make any sense at all to me. As a playstation owner, i don't look forward to a period of inferior 3rd party titles again once both consoles are out, just like we did with the PS3 but this time with a lot bigger gap...

Why should Sony care what Microsoft's doing? They'll forge their own path and let everyone else follow, which is what's been happening since February 2013.

This really feels like Sony's Sega Saturn moment to me.

With Microsoft, I think they can get away with Scorpio because the Xbox One is weaker than the PS4 and well, they are Microsoft.

With Sony, they are handily winning the generation and no one is really begging for a hardware update. People seem pretty content with what they have right now. So why do it? You are #1 and you are about to tell people that the console everyone bought in droves is obsolete and you need to upgrade.

Maybe since people are used to upgrading their cell phones people are more accepting of hardware refreshes these days and I think that's what Sony is banking on. Still, from someone who lived through all of Sega's crazy add-ons, this feels very similar and I think it could seriously hurt them.

I liked the idea of a PS4k which simply had a UHD drive and 4k capabilities like the Xbox One S ended up doing. That simply gives people that want 4k an option. A complete hardware upgrade though, it just sounds like bad news unless it's 2 years away.
The bolded just isn't true and the fact that so many continue to say it is frustrating. This move is only going to extend the life of the base PS4 because Sony is ensuring there will be no PS4K exclusive games. It's still a PS4, uses PS4 controllers, plays PS4 games, connects to the same PSN, etc.

If it's only considered obsolete because there's something out there that looks better...well then the PS4 has been "obsolete" since the day it launched compared to gaming PCs.

They aren't forcing anyone to buy it and your standard PS4 will still play all the games.

Well, in that case i don't see it ending well for Sony at all. After all, they are competing for the same customers. PS4 should have thought Sony that having the better, more powerful hardware helps a lot in that competition. If they think they'll let Microsoft have the better hardware for two or more years is perfectly ok, they should think again. It seems like a very bad decision.

That's what I'm hoping too. Basically new hardware available twice as often and new games always working on the 2 most recent releases. That gives enthusiests the option to upgrade their obsolete hardware more often and it gives the more casual customers the option to skip every other iteration if they want to.

Remeber the rules, Neo will share library with PS4, if games develop for Neo, it have to run on PS4 too, they are same entity.
I don't think they will try halfway forward compatible. It will be a clean break on policy, disc etc.
Publisher will make cross gen games (within similar architecture) like they used to in first couple years of new generation, maybe let you cross buy/play with PS5 if they want to access bigger install base.
Publisher can choose to make next gen exclusive if they think it's for the best of the games. Win win situation.
No need to start from zero even PS5 is a new generation.

That's the best case scenario for me.

Sony didn't "win" because they had the more powerful console. They were cheaper and MS fumbled the entire reveal of their console. That gave Sony the footing. Stuff like slightly more power was icing on the cake.

Neo has the advantage of going first, Price is the big factor here but they are trying to get people in their ecosystem. OG model will no doubt see a price drop with Neo launches. PS4 imo will continue to sell fine regardless of Scorpio.

Both MS and Sony are tying to lock people into their ecosystems instead of taking the big game of a new gen launch and losing all those people.

Hmm... maybe it's slightly further away than I expected then. Figured it would release within a month of this event, but if final dev kits are only shipping around the same time, that might be a bit tight for launch software.

Or maybe October titles will have slightly earlier access to final kits, and the above refers to general availability of the final kit.

Finalized is, IMO, the wrong word to use in this case. The Neo PDF says the dev and test kits are good for finishing games. The dev kit as been around since at least December last year and the test kit for third parties went out in ~April. These "finalized" devs kits will just be the mass produced kits all devs get from then on. The final test kit will basically just be a retail shelled Neo like the current PS4 I assume.

Yes, but will most companies do anything more than have increased frame rates at 1080p for Neo? That's allot of effort to have 3 versions of a game you have to test for. And with the limited power of Neo, you might just get 4k rendering but otherwise identical to original ps4, and at 1080p unlocked fps (preferably consistent 60 fps) but otherwise identical to original ps4. Sony might put additional effort into launch titles to try to sell the Neo but I wouldn't be surprised with minimal effort in future titles.

October mostly like.

Yeap near or together PSVR.

Edit - I'm thinking November is a good launch with 3rd year anniversary.

So after I can wrap up Destiny year 2 moments of triumph then.

Looks like I'm gonna have to re-buy a vanilla PS4 and then return it. =/

I think this is wrong, I don't think 4k is a mandatory requirement for Neo versions is it - it's just a 'Neo mode' and it will be down to devs where to put the power, effects or upscale (or a mixture) but I can't see devs just going for 4k as not enough people would benefit for the effort.

I really want to sell my ps4, like yesterday. But damn No man sky comes tonight. Maybe I can still get 200+ for it in a few weeks.

Please let this include Destiny Rise of Iron... It's late september but I'm not sure if Sony includes DLC in their restrictions.

Oh man...as a huge Destiny player, I didn't even think about that. Really hope it takes advantage of it as well. Something tells me that stipulation won't apply to DLC.

It's not all about Neo vs Scorpio. Since they are both just an enhance version, the competition is between PS4+Neo vs Xbox one+Scorpio.
Unless Premium console become the main sales driver, the bigger match is still between the OG.
Power is very important, but it's not the only important factor.

Fantastic, can't wait. Will be pre-ordering Day 1.

These HW refreshes are just what this generation needed. They were so underpowered from the get-go. This and Scorpio will truly be the next-gen machines we wanted.

When you say native do you even know what it means or are you just sticking to that word because it's what you are used to people using?

4K using checkerboard rendering or any other more efficient rendering technique is still native 4K. it's just done in a non traditional way. the final frame buffer is 4K.

It's not native. Please dont give me the "tech expert" thing. It's not done in a traditional way then it's not native. I dont care about uprez or checkerboard or temporal crap. Native means it's been processed at this resolution from the begining. Final frame buffer being 4k is on the same level as Penello claiming you'll see 1080p anyway. Sure it'll look better, but as long as they used a lower res as a base, it.s not native.

So yes, I know what it means. And no, I wont let PR change what native means.

Keep spitting truth, it isn't native, but just know you're not going to get anywhere with onQ123.

Why would anything require a 4K tv?

I believe Wizard simply means, "To get the benefit of the new console." Statements have definitely made to the effect that these consoles are for 4k output. It stands to reason that most of the power is going to have to go toward that effort. Unless developers are choosing to do a 1080p build and put resources toward other things when they don't detect 4k, I can see why a 4k TV would be necessary to recognize a benefit. It all depends on how this stuff gets implemented by the different devs and how much resource draw 4k ends up being even using quasi-4k displaying techniques.

Sony didn't win with the PS4 because they have the most powerful console... power isn't everything.. it doesn't even come to the top reasons.

Good marking and good exclusives and first party games are waaaay more important.

People won't magically moves from Playstation to XBOX just for that reason.
