Gameblog.fr: PS4 Neo to be announced on September 7 in New York

Neo is day one then if that means stuff like Re7 will actually be same on screen and VR. The more I think about it, the more I don't care about specs and just want stuff like Uncharted 4 in VR. Make it happen, and I'm in.

So maybe that's the secret sauce? Osiris mentioned that he thought the main reason for the upgrade was for VR, maybe Neo will come with more VR features? We already know about the media viewing app.

But this is like saying that PS VR games will look better on Neo, and it's the same for any game, if not, what's the Neo point?

Yeah, lol. It seems framed in a 'controversial' way.

No shit VR games will look better on the Neo... as will non VR games. /slaps top of head

Now if they mean less sacrifices from the PC cross developed games, then yeah, no shit again, lol.

Up until recently specs weren't 100% final. Mainly amount of RAM. Some Sony First Party teams were asking for more. I don't know if they got it in the end.

Juicy!

That should mean we'll be able to know for sure what the final specs are soon if things keep leaking as much as they have been.

Not that I think they'll change much if at all, just a lot of people speculating on it and it'll be nice to get some closure.

it shouldn't be called PS4K if it can't play AAA games at 4K.

The point of 4K is not to fully advertise 4K gaming, but 4K media features like UHD BR, 4K output in general and HDR color advancements.

PS4K would have been viable even if they just had a traditional slim model with no power increase as well, because they could not call it a slim as it would not have been much smaller than the original

I don't know what this even means.

It means, VR games right now often have fairly simple visuals relative to TV games ('downgraded' vs TV, if you will). If we want to move beyond that and evolve VR, to offer visuals more like what we have in TV games today but in VR we need better hardware. Enter things like Neo.

It's not a 'omg PS VR needs neo or it won't work' type of contention, just that Neo will allow more sophisticated visual bells and whistles that most VR games are skipping at the moment.

This makes it sound like PS4Neo specific software. Games created first and foremost for Neo. then converted to run on PS4. This sounds good.

*prays Gran Turismo: Sport will also feature*

Interesting. RAM pool was actually the least likely things I expected to change. I figured RAM bandwidth was most likely to improve, followed by GPU clocks, and then CPU clocks.

That is a better explanation. Agreed.

I took that as just saying that they'll show off what the NEO can actually offer over the regular PS4. They need some kind of showcase to tell us why we should bother buying the thing. I highly doubt they'll create games for NEO first when the PS4 has the larger market share.

Could also potentially be Sony working to free up more RAM from the OS. According to the leaked document they already added 512MB for Neo games, perhaps they can slim down the OS another 512MB?

Awesome news, an October release sounds nice. I hope there's a nice trade-in special.

Has Sony announced their Japan press conference? Maybe we'll see something from the Japan side if its after this. Might be wishful thinking though.

I'd be quite ok with November. Allows me to save even more money and possibly have enough to put up a new TV at the time as well.

I honestly don't know, but we were told before Thanks Giving and we are in the UK so I'd assume at least US and Europe. PS4 launched within a week of US and EU, I think?
Thanks for the info. I'm really hoping Japan doesn't have to wait half a year again. It would be like the reverse of the situation with games in Europe!

Anyone thinks we will be able to migrate content from PS4 to Neo? I'm fully digital and I can't redownload all the things again.

Is this import/export feature available on PS3 or older consoles?

you can already do back ups and restore on the PS4

I think it's very likely you can just do what you do with PS4 right now - do a full backup to an external USB hard drive, add the firmware file using a PC, and then restore to the new console.

Thanks. I have no idea this was possible between 2 consoles cuz I thought its just you can backup/restore when you replace HDD on the same PS4. I put a 2TB HDD

I have an aftermarket (larger) HDD in my PS4 and I'm really hoping I can just swap that same drive into the Neo, without moving/re-downloading anything.

Wait has the system been rumored to get a further upgrade? What are the most up to date specs currently?
I wouldn't expect the upgrade to happen, especially now since the september event is basically confirmed.

The upgrades would've only happened if they were going for a Q1 release, but them holding the event in september means it's releasing this year.

As for the specs of the rumored upgrade, the console would've been coming in at 5.5TF if the upgrades were done. Whereas as the leaked specs from the document have the console at 4.2TF.
Yay, whats the chance this will be $400?
Extremely likely imo. I expect $399 for neo, and the regular ps4 dropping to $299.

I just want to know if its smaller, cooler, quieter and lighter than the original!

Take it with a grain of salt, but an official sony importer strictly said it was smaller to me in a conversation.
He mentioned it as a side note while we were discussing how much the power diffrence will effect the OG PS4 sales at the retailer i work in.

He was right once on the PSVR price the first time we have met, doesn't mean he is right this time. but he said it with such confidence and certainty it was really believable.
