Playstation 4 Plus sounds like the PSN service. Just call it NEO and be done with it IMO

No, you're the one being in delusional PR for whatever reason. I'm arguing for the sake of arguing because I'm saying IQ wont be as good as native 4k ? But that's a fact, as opposed to you claiming it's the same result, just done in a more efficient way.

Who said it was the same result? I responded to someone calling it fake 4K & I said

"Because something is more efficient that make it fake now?"

you're saying that it's not more efficient even though it's achieving 4K with less processing power, how is that not just arguing for the sake of arguing?

I think the "New PS4" is a possibility that we cannot ignore.

But PS4 Neo may as well be it's final name. PS4 logo plus a very very small little silver badge next to it on top that says "Neo"

Bring it on.

Anyways, I wonder, if sony releases a whole year before xbone2 can't they advertise as the most powerful console CURRENTLY out?

PS4k is such a perfect name that I'm expecting that.

Yup, they can say that it's the most powerful console and it won't be a lie. No need to even say "currently."
PS4k is such a perfect name that I'm expecting that.
But with that naming there's the potential "But I don't have 4k tv, so I shouldn't get it I guess" situation that arises.

They have a model for that. PS4.

I am considering trading in my PS4 to Gamestop while they are still offering $200 cash as the values are likely to only go down after the reveal. As of now the cash same as credit deal says "Offer valid through 8/28/16" although there is no guarantee that the value for a PS4 holds that long.

Anyhow I just did a backup of my current PS4 (to save P.T.!). Now I just need to deselect it as my primary PS4, and format before taking it down correct?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks GAF.

On the other hand it makes it sound like it won't do anything if you don't have a 4k TV which I would argue would be a mistake. I'm going to guess it will be called a Playstation 4 Plus or something like that.

I hope it's true because we have something to look forward to and it will be soon. I reckon it's not only going to be them revealing the console and calling it a day but most definitely show some upcoming, maybe even new games for it.

only an idiot would think that if Sony have competent marketing.

I didn't take offense. I just don't get why you're bringing up that point. Everyone already knows that xbox one was priced that way due to the kinect, which is why I made it a point to mention "no camera". Again, no offense taken was just wondering why you were quoting and stating something as though it was not taken into account when I wrote the post.

you would be surprised at how many people bring up the Xbox was 500 with out knowing the price was because of the Kinect. Some even thinks it would of been 500 even without it

Remember that most people thought Wii U was add-on peripheral for Wii.
Nintendo spent multiple E3s being unable to tell the audience what the hell the Wii U was. Going by how Sony has handled this gen so far I do not think they will suffer from the same pitfall.

I wouldn't say it was most people, but that it definitely appeared to be a considerable amount of people. But it's an easily avoidable situation. Aside from the name, I think the main reason people believed that the Wii U was an add-on was down to Nintendo's huge focus on the controller itself. Here's the unveiling video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhlDHeCT-Q8

At a glance the Wii U itself just looks like the Wii lying down (they never actually show a closeup of it in the unveiling). And note that when the person playing switches to off-TV mode he puts down a Wiimote and picks up the Gamepad followed by the words "Switch from TV to the new Controller". And all the words that popped up on screen afterwards were about "the new Controller". The end shot is just a shot of the Gamepad by itself. That's literally how Nintendo chose to unveil a new console.

You would have a fine career in politics.

By the logic displayed above, the Xbox one was more efficient than the PS4 in all the games where the Xbox One efficiency allowed them to render only 720p worth of pixels, but, as we all know, everything you see in in 1080p, right?

What are you even talking about?

upscaling a 720P frame buffer to 1080P is not the same as using checkerboard rendering or any other more efficient rendering technique to get a final frame buffer of 4K.

This is true and what I was teasing when I was hinting Sony was in a race to announce first before Nintendo

Shouldn't they announce after Nintendo to steal their thunder ? Lol

Nintendo unveiling the NX is much bigger news for core gaming sites, after years of anticipation. The goal is top slots in media coverage, so you want to position yourself to maximize that for the most exposure

Man I can't believe that we'll finally put the whole speculation thing behind us, it was fun but tedious

I pray to mother earth that you are wrong, but I'm curious: why do you think this?

Because the Neo isn't a completely new console so there's no point in making a new version for a comparatively small audience. Also there isn't going to be any Neo specific games, they're just regular PS4 games that are upgraded when put into the console.

2 Sony events within a week (Neo+pre TGS conf). Gonna be a great start to a month. Not to mention outside of just Sony as well with NX reveal, TGS in general, FFXV and stuff. Feels like E3 part 2 coming up.

I wonder if it's too early to show Uncharted 4 DLC teaser at the event, that would be a great showcase title. I do fully expect at least Deep Down, VR stuff, Horizon and GoW to appear. Horizon especially is probably the first big selling point for Neo with the launch creeping up and Guerilla being a master at technical showcases.

It's a bit sad that outside of that I'd imagine Battlefield 1 to be a great showcase but with MS having the marketing deal and all.

Hell NO! I want the standard PS4 title and Neo's face from the matrix, preferably in pink!!!

I'm just hoping they ship the consoles with an elite type controller.

They should call it PlayStation 4.01 Stability Edition

I was thinking that although they probably can't do it with this upcoming revision but if we consider the next one will be in 2 to 3 years, putting us at '18/'19 and a relatively plausible time to make an actual next console, Sony (and Microsoft) can just call their console PlayStation (and Xbox) and update it yearly.

Then I got sad that yearly iterations is probably their goals, a la Apple, and a PS4+/PS5/PS5+, Xbox4/Xbox4S is conceivable.

Edit: And by sad it's more because while a yearly iteration may not yield significant bumps, I'm going to want one every single time for the most part, like I do with the Samsung S line. :)

And also that they're basically PCs now.

It depends on the method, the native rendering resolution, and the final output resolution. We don't know anything specific about Sony's method but I'm expecting it to be on the more complex side compared to other implementations if they're encouraging every dev to utilize it.
Rainbow Six implemention was quite complex one and the cost was 1.4ms and had a net win of 8-10ms.
Rendered in 960x540 2xMSAA buffer, resolved with checkerboard pattern to 1080p. (Shading forced for both MSAA samples.)
They also use TAA and it's jittered in subsample level, there might be way to actually get more edge resolution than 1080p with some changes.

There might be some really interesting possibilities with checkerboard rendering and high MSAA samples, especially if you would not shade same subsamples in all frames and use TAA to accumulate the result.
960x540 8xMSAA + checkerboard would be enough for 4k. (Basic implementation would still shade 2x 1080p, but I'm quite sure you could get away for less.)

It's not the same indeed. And using cherckerboard rendering isn't the same either since you're losing in quality. It's not 4k, that's all. If it was that easy, everyone would just use that. It's not "more efficient", it's not native and does a good job to hide it.

Holy sht! If this is true we could be looking at a end of September release. Way sooner than expected!

Anyway my votes:

PS4 Turbo
PS4 Omega
PS4 Ultimate (PS4U? lol)

Is that true? Core gaming sites treat Nintendo as an afterthought, I'd actually say Neo would get more coverage even if they were announced on the same day. If anything its a move to stamp out whatever little attention NX will get.

Also if Nintendo misses TGS season for the NX reveal they are idiots, which wouldn't be surprising.
