Pressing on a pokemon under "Sightings" gives a generic message now. Wonder if they'll provide some sort of tracking for that.
Nothing happens for me.
Selecting the pokemon to track will also put an actual marker on your live map.

Whoa! My Nearby section just changed. It will show the closest Pokestop if a pokemon is near there now.

Are they just taking shots form StreetView for the Nearby? That's pretty dang cool.
It's the pokestop picture. I believe people had to actually submit those back during the Ingress stuff.

If those screenshots are indeed legit, then it's more than I hoped for. To be honest, for me at least that would actually be more useful than the map-based trackers we have now.
They're directly from my phone...so it's pretty legit.

Huh, so it only tracks Pokémon which are near PokéStops? Or...
Nearby is now pokemon near a pokestop.
Sightings is now pokemon that are not near a pokestop. Still seems impossible to track pokemon under Sightings.
that seems to be the case.
thus great for city players (like most things in pokemon go)
and not so great for players without a lot of stuff around them

Hmm... interesting. Well, I can only see a couple Pokéstops on the map while I'm at home, but it's a couple minutes drive to a few places with a lot of them. We'll see how it goes I guess.

The new tracking system looks amazing.
My god...looks good.
At least the 'sightings' list seems to update correctly, clearing out pokemon as you move away or they despawn and bringing in new ones. Not sure yet if it will sort pokemon based on which ones are closest, but it's definitely improved from the previously broken nearby system.
