FCC wireless chip filing makes me think Sony will announce new Vita hardware

But...it doesn't? OP should cop a spank for this one.

Not really, they could be replacing modules in the same units going forward, or not doing anything at all. Huge leap from what I can see. Like Uncharted levels of gap stretching.

They arent going to shove 5GHZ modules into vanilla PS4s

Cmon now

You must be crazy by believing this.

Do you think that sony has some kind of factory that can roll out games each minute.

They have enough to support with ps4, ps4neo and psvr. Nintendo got even issues with only supporting 3ds and wiiu. Do you think after the failure of vita they still want to go on with making handhelds? I don't think that they will.

Don't think we need to have a topic for it. It's just speculation. It even could be for a ps4 slim.

Then Nintendo effectively goes unchallenged in their home market come 2017

ehhh even though the market has changed I dunno if Smartphones and 3DS even occupy the same space entirely but yeah

It's what Nintendo themselves mention that this is their biggest problem. The same would even count for vita.

And i can't see any other reason why Sony will bring it. They have enough work with their other devices and handheld market doesn't work well for them. Maybe hybrid ps4. But at the moment their isn't any chip that can do this and why copy Nintendo again.

ODFM modulation is the same used by Cell phones and the coming ATSC 3.

From the picture, this is the first radio for a STB in the home to support IoT appliances and more. DSSS is a form of frequency hopping that is less error prone. ODFM is also more robust.... So same WiFi frequencies are being used with different modulations that are more robust. 4K video is going to need a more robust WiFI.

If anything, this new chip is likely headed for the updated PS4 revision confirmed to be at that September 7 meeting, which is dubbed the PlayStation Neo. Second rumor has a PS4 "Slim" at the same meeting and again with 4K media support.

Multiple ATSC 1 & 3 Vidipath tuners with WiFi are supposed to ship in 2017.

Erm wheres this Trinity talk coming from? Also did people wipe the fact Sony America basically killed the Vita years ago? Or that Sony is an electronics manufacturer...

Couldn't this just be for cameras?

As if the vita was a challenger. As if mobile gaming didnt have a way bigger effect. Sony is finally bring itself to profitability, it would be foolish to get back into the shrinking traditional handheld business. "Challenging" nintendo for the sake of "challenging" nintendo is worthless in this day and age.

You remove the Blu ray drive and also leave it with 32gb. Hell the ps4 probably can't run any games with less than 100gb.

I'd buy a disk-less PS4 slim as long as it has a HDD(with the option the replace it with an SSD) and a quieter cooling solution.

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say here, but DSSS and OFDM are mentioned in the filing because those are the types of modulation used by WiFi. These are not new proprietary protocols, it's regular WiFi/Bluetooth.

When you mention that it is the first to support IoT devices I assume you mean because it supports BLE? Is this really the first STB to support Low Energy?

AS it is now there is no more information to suggest the chip belongs to a new vita any more that saying it belongs to the next Vanilla PS4 revision

Be that a model update or the Rumored Slim

Shame there isnt much else to grasp onto but I appreciate all the posters who did significant digging and educated me on a few things I never knew about FCC filings

So where did OP get the idea that this would be a new Vita? Honestly. And why "Vita Trinity?" Did he find that name somewhere? All he is showing in the OP is a wireless chip filing, which could easily be for a PS4 revision or something.

What I'm asking is, was there any real evidence that this was what the OP was suggesting? Because what's there in the first post certainly isn't.

Don't engage dude, just walk on by, don't make eye contact. Not worth it.
