I think I'm going to fire up my recently unsealed copy of Parodius tonight, I never played the Super Famicom version but the PCE version seems like a solid port.
I'm surprised she was banned, never seen her post anything negative, what happened?

I don't know about all of you fine folks, but I looooooooove the instruction manuals Taito's designers whipped up for the company's PC Engine games.
They're all in black and white, and the illustrations inside are kind of crude, but somehow that actually makes me adore and appreciate them even more.
Case in point: Hana Taaka Daka's manual.

Yup I am with you on that sir! Love Taito pc engine games and their manuals even tho some of them games... are not quite arcade perfect!
I kinda bastardized and and somewhat Scarlet-ized a page from Mizubaku Daibouken in what seems to be a long time ago...
You know what? It used to bother me that some of these games aren't arcade perfect, but now I actually appreciate the differences. After all, if I want to play the arcade version, I can either grab a ROM or buy some sort of modern console compilation in most cases.
There is another thread you could try about pvms, upscalers etc
Certainly the pc engine has it's own unique version of those games.

Seems like the guy who uploaded the vids was probably one of the developers of those ports.
Would love to play Popils on PC-Engine, maybe the ultimate version? I see there's a guy who makes HuCards these days, would consider getting this done if it gets released. For those who don't know, it's a puzzle game developed by the designer of Bubble Bobble, his final game title.

The special mode has lots of hidden bosses and a few are pc engine exclusive although how they appear seem to be score related.
I just got this in the post: Genso Tairiku Auleria which I think is perhaps one of very few if any, CD-Rom game released by Taito. Pretty sure all the other Taito games released on CD were by NEC Avenue or other.
From what I can gather it seems like a successor to Cadash.
Seems very strange to release a CD-Rom game in 1993 without Super CD-Rom support.
Gonna tear off that shrink wrap a bit later and see if this game is any good.

So I just came into a PC Engine. It's now region modded and has an AV mod. I grabbed Alien Crush, Shadow land, Ordyne, Double dungeon, SF2' and Keith Courage.
I'm a Turbo newbie though, what are some great relatively inexpensive games to look out for. I'm looking for the PC GenJin and DenJin games to start.
Oh and I am fluent in Japanese, so text heavy JP games are totally cool!

Get a CD Rom, a Super CD card (or the Turbo Everdrive), and any of the Tengai Makyo/Far East of Eden games. I heard they are a hoot for those who can understand Japanese. I wonder if they had been fan translated.
And it seems like those FEoE Super CDs are cheap!

I meant, I don't have a penis, so I can't have literally cum into my PCE.
But I was looking at just getting a PC Engine Duo R or RX, getting a working CD Rom, dock, cards, etc seems to be more expensive, and the hardware seems less reliable. I mean, I'm an electronics technician so it's no big deal changing a couple caps, but I would still rather not.

The Duo-R/RX is definitely the most reliable system, but they will cost you more. A regular duo and a cap kit would probably cost you a little less.
Definitely get a Turbo everdrive, it is by far one of the best bangs for your buck in the everdrive scene.

Thanks, I actually owned Parodius quite a few years ago but sold it around the time my Turbo Duo started failing on me (thank goodness that was the only Turbo/PCE game I ever sold, never again). The copy I'm playing now was the sealed copy from the pic I posted along with the sealed Gradius and Salamander which are now also open (love treating myself to buying and opening sealed games when I can). I'm now rotating through all three and am currently on Salamander which so far is a fantastic port, graphics and music are sooooooo good. 16-bit era Konami title and menu music is the best. Gradius seems arcade perfect and looks great, I'm looking forward to playing the PCE exclusive dinosaur graveyard level, too bad Salamander apparently doesn't have any PCE exclusive content based on what I read. Thanks for the heads up on the secret bosses in Parodius.
if you only just have just the console itself you might need to look into the ten no koe 2 back up unit. Its basically a AV booster via composite and a back up unit. Some have been modded to do RGB and it might also require batteries for the save unit.

The Momotarou train games are the Momotarou Dentetsu series, not Densetsu like the RPGs... and for some reason that train boardgame series is the one that got super popular and lasted decades, not the Momotarou RPGs or platformer.
Has anyone ordered a power supply from Retro Game Supply? It seems the PCE/Turbo units rarely come with their original AC Adaptors.
I have PSUs for the Sega 16-bit trio and Famicom/FDS from them. Both works good.

I've owned a complete copy of Nexr Summer Carnival '93 for many years, I didn't realize there was a non Summer Carnival edition of Nexr, is there any difference in content between the two versions other than the timed carnival modes?

The original version doesn't have the Summer Carnival timed modes, but does have story cutscenes that the second version cuts out. The story's not great, in my opinion at least, so just stick with the second version, it's got more content. Either way the game is one of the best shmups on the system for sure!

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I popped it in last night, been at least 15 years since I played it and the gameplay and graphics are tight, plus it has really sweet stretching and zooming effects on some of the battleships.

Yeah system 3.0 US cards are not a common thing at all. 50 bucks is a damn good deal.

Yeah, usually it's cheaper to get your TG16 region modded and buy an import Japanese Super CD card than it would be to buy an American one... very good deal there.

I'm in the middle of moving and I realize I had a lot of store credit at a retro game store I frequented. I ended up going for broke and got over $270 worth of goods and ended up paying $1.63 out of pocket. Among them were The Legendary Axe and Keith Courage. Here's hoping one day I will own a Turbografx/Duo to play these on.

I see what you guys meant about Keith Courage. He's got a backlog but once you are up, bam, it's done. He said he did my mod and actually found some other issues that I didn't even know were present on my Duo-R. I just paid him and he should be sending it back to me soon. Can't wait to see the end result!
