If the game's basic functions like vsync and framepacing do not work correctly out of the box and require the paid user to tweak it THEMSELVES, then yes it is a fucking shit port. People paid for your product, and is asking for a working product out of the box irrational?

You change some settings in the options.

C'mon now. Ain't no one that lazy. He just wanted to shit on the game, obvious by the way he was acting.

I'll wait for some patches but not fixed within the two week window I'm getting a refund on Steam. My second refund ever behind Arkham Knight. Don't care if its a small team, can't put a game out in a state like this.

heh. I have been pc gaming since the early 90's. I wonder what people today would say back then. lol. Some of the best PC games of all time required console commands and config tweaks to get the most out of it or enable people to play it the right way. Guess I just grew up in a different era.

PC gaming today of course is in a far better place than its hayday. But that doesn't mean we have to go back to the memories of doing it the hard way.

I disagree. Given the custom nature of PC gaming, you have to accept some level of flexibility.

Flexibility means we can dip below the standard?

Biggest issue reported so far is players without the Visual C++ Redist 2010. First PC patch released already! Update and restart if needed
Number two issue so far is players who have out of date GFX drivers, or none installed. Please install latest drivers from AMD and nVidia.
Number three please make sure your GFX card is above the min spec. OpenGL 4.5 is required to play No Man's Sky

My framerate has been pretty good on a 1070

The odd stutter here and there but thats to be expected with a generating game right? It hasn't taken away from the experience for me at least but I'm I'm not that delicate when it comes to framerate.

The UI and what not feels very "porty" though.

Yep. Even if the game ran flawlessly, the UI is absolutely horrible on KB/M.

This is a ridiculous answer.

Why? He's right. There are too many different PC configurations out there for default settings to be a one-size-fits-all. PC gamers will always need to tweak the settings some. If one is too bothered to go into the settings and tweak a little to match their system, then a console is probably a better option for them.

Changing the settings didn't work for me. Even if you're not "lazy", the game has major issues.

Did Hello Games do something to TB? The way he is dismissing the game seems personal.

"They didn't explain scanning so I'm not doing that."

Lol what?

TB live thoughts on a game outside of PC port issues are usually bad. He needs to take time to organise his thought process. This NMS stream is a great example. He says "even if the performance was great, I'd probably hate the game", yet he hasn't played more than 15 mins, hasn't listened to the tutorials and is mostly frustrated (rightfully so) at the crazy hitching issues and other performance and lack of PC thought in the design of the games UI / settings.

Definitely not worth listening to his live impressions of gameplay, but worthwhile for thoughts on the port quality - but almost anyone could do that fine, and has.

Choosing On or Off in an option menu confirmed too difficult for PC gamers!

Girlfriends got it running fine on her i7 / 970M 16GB laptop. I'll have fun testing on my PC later when I can family share it on my Desktop.

Guys, also keep in mind that nvidia should be releasing a game ready drivre that will improve performance even further.

This is supposed to be out next week.

They should not have a PC. A console would better suit them, honestly.

Nope. Sorry. I expect my game sto functiona dn perform well. Tweaking is about makign aesthetic changes or goying beyond what should be expected by taking advantage of more hardware power or tuning to lower end hardware. That's it.

We should not be asked to fix framepacing in a game for christ sakes. Who thinks like this?

I could start the game at the end.
After an hour or so I control tab, couldn't get back to the game. I proceed to kill the game and start again, it didn't save my progression of that hour.... well maybe I will wait a little to play this game.

That's not a bug though (except for not being able to get back into the game), it's just how the game works. It doesn't autosave, except when getting out of your ship. To save progress on a planet you have to use a save beacon thingy.

Man, that's a lot of negative reviews on steam.
Seems to be crashing and running like shit for a lot of people.

But he still got heavily involved in it & still caters to that crowd to this day, just with enough "distance" that it's not immediately obvious.

No hyperbole, but he is legitimately impossible for me to listen to. I'm sitting here at my desk at work visibly uncomfortable because I feel like I've been yelled at for the short amount of time I watched his stream. I dunno, not my thing I guess? I don't get it. If I wanted an angry man yelling at me while playing videogames I'd go play Overwatch ranked or something.

Forced to refund for now.

I'm running an i5 6500k OC'd to 4.5 and a 980ti with 16 gb of ram, constant dips to below 20 fps, micro stuttering when loading in anything thats not in view, games hiccuping for about 1-2 seconds every so often.

Really a mess in my opinion, didn't buy this on ps4 was waiting to play it on pc.

I tried everything, dropping everything to low, turning vsync off, framerate to max borderless window etc, couldn't get it to run smooth.

Really upset this was at the top of my want list for like 2 years now.

Does the game version display anywhere in the game or steam?

Would love to know if that 18MB update changed it from 1.03 to something else....

That 18MB update is VC 2010 Redist.

If you are on Windows 10 ver 1607, you can force update the 369.09 driver early from the device manager, reportedly it improves performance. Doubt it'll help in this case though.

Thanks, downloading now so I will have a look.

That's bizarre. I have got the stuttering but nothing like as bad as what you're describing. Running off an SSD or HDD? Wonder if it's streaming issues.

Arkham Knight flashbacks but at least it seems Sean is very active in finding solutions / patching the game.. Give it a few days perhaps.

i5-33500
GTX 970
8gb ram
Win10

I have now set everything low, and its frame rate is in the toilet, so choppy. I set FPS to 30, and it cant even hit that.

Basic settings are not working. This isn't a tweak...something is fundamentally broken. For everyone.

It's not like developers are coding to specific hardware. That's what middleware and API's are for.

Well apparently there are games that do the one size fits all things correctly, how surprising.

I tried every setting and fixed that could possibly get this game to run better and nothing works, refunding this and getting the PS4 version instead.

My rig is a GTX 770 and an i5 4790k CPU

Sean is tweeting some info. They pushed a small patch already. Also update your drivers.

They pushed prerequisite libraries. May help people that can't get the game to load but there is no performance difference.

Everything else he is blaming on drivers and shitty PCs.

I did "delete local content" in the steam menu for the game and I am redownloading - that should remove all traces of the old game right including saves?

Game ran first time but locks up PC when try to start it so am redownloading game
