Death Stranding Announced: A Kojima Productions Game

The next HideoTube is looking like it'll be released some time next week. It's supposed to be rather lengthy according to KojiPro. It was shot at SIE Japan and they're going to be talking about E3 as well as including behind the scenes footage.

It will be up tomorrow!

Almost there, Ep4 of HideoTube will be up tomorrow (July 13 JST) and with subs in English.

It's finally here. Pythonselkan has posted a one hour analysis of Death Stranding and it is currently my favorite analysis.

Enjoy.
The ending is intriguing. The father in PT hanged himself in the garage using an umbilical cord and DS trailer is full of umbilical cords. Umbilical cords according to Kojima signify connection which is going to be the main theme in DS. Does this mean PT is also a connection to DS but under a different name?

I watched Python's analysis yesterday and it seems fairly plausible but kojima tends to re-use concepts and ideas that were scrapped(like the zombie thing for MGR2 that ended up in MGSV).
So it's possible that any similarities between both games could be just him adapting what he had planned for Silent Hills into DS.
Also,i've read in NBGO that the singer from Low Roar knows the release date of Death Stranding,Kojima supposedly told him.

Doubtful, probably just a theme he's obsessed with at the moment.

There's absolutely no way Kojima knows the release date.

I don't want Silent Hills.

I don't want P.T.

I don't want MGS.

I want Death Stranding. Something new. Something original. Something free from the baggage of Kojima's history.

I want something new and fresh and exciting and unknown.

Kojima's checking the equipment. Probably making sure they'll be able to scan David Hayter's face!

I'm curious what this game will actually be but I'm honestly feeling like at this point Kojima is literally banking on his name alone to market this thing because there is literally nothing for them to show to us yet. Comes off kinda weird.

Also kinda stunned people are so quick to get wrapped up in what this story might be after the trash fire that has been his last few attempts. I'd love to be wrong but boy oh boy ever since 4 that writing decline has been real.

I like this guy

PT/Silent hills isn't this game. There maybe some type of reference to PT or maybe one of his older game since he does that a lot with MGS and ZOE....or just mechs, but I think this might be a concept he had for a while just couldn't do anything with it because of MGS.

Besides if you want PT you can always play it when it comes out in January :)

What's this, Kojima working instead of being on vacation and/or watching movies and/or going to exhibitions?

Someone call the press.

That is a fair point, but it's also why I'm pretty excited for this.

After all, there's no sequel baggage in this game. This will be a clean slate. Kojima never wanted to make a MGS4 in the beginning anyway, let's not forget. And TPP was all about trying to tie two narrative timelines together.

This is a brand new story. I think that means that there's a lot of scope for this to be far tighter and effective, narratively speaking, than the final few Metal Gear games.

There's a lot of bad writing in 4 and on that has nothing to do with sequel baggage. Characters are more illogical than ever, the villains are often dull and uninteresting, his attempts at making the themes work fall on their face, etc. 5's story and characters are horribly dull either way which to me is pretty bad considering how much emphasis he put on it himself in his trailers.

I feel like he wants us to take his trailers super seriously even when we're given so little info and the end result is almost always dumber than what we hoped for. The Prometheus effect essentially.

Yeah. One thing I've always enjoyed about Kojima games are the references to his past and concurrent works he scatters throughout each new entry into his legacy. There won't be any of that this time around, which is a bit saddening, but on the flip side, also indicates a fresh start for Kojima and the birth of a new Kojima game universe, which is simply irresistible to me.

The Death Stranding trailer felt fresh. Nothing about it made me think "PT," apart from the obvious, which was Norman Reedus' appearance. I'm sure Kojima kept a few ideas in mind from Silent Hills' development, but I don't think there's anything to worry about in terms of its connection to Death Stranding, as the latter suggests, even screams, to be its own thing.

Yeah I'm quite happy for him to be able to be free up to do what he wants. From a gameplay, story and thematic point of view he is free- many people criticised various gameplay, character, story and other bits of content in his other games since... well MGS2 to be honest. "It's not MGS". "that's not how the character should be" "Not realistic" "Open world?" etc.

I'm sure that Kojima has had ideas that he has either not fully implemented, or cut entirely, from his recent titles (both MG and PT which obviously ended up gone) that he will be able to just put wholesale into his new game because he is absolutely free up to do so without 'damaging' some sort of legacy which people expect. As much of a creator as he is, he has made various statements in the past about what peoples expectations are, and the whole 'coming back for another metal gear' thing is obviously something that would weigh on him.

I can't wait. I just want to have an idea on what KIND of game we are talking about. Not the whole thing... but like when MGS2 trailers came out... we got 8 minutes of batshit insanity, filled with gameplay AND story.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
If Kojima really got this man on board then HOLY COW.

Reedus was a good catch but Mads fucking Mikkelsen would be on a whole new level.

Holy shit.

Although, uhh, doesn't having big name actors only make a game even more expensive to develop?

Depends. Even big name actors can do work for less pay than they usually take, especially if doing work for actual friend(s) etc. Just look at short Dirty Laundry, it has Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman while being just proof of concept piece. Expensive names for such thing, but I suspect they did it for free or borderline free.

On Mikkelsen, anyone who loves his work should watch Hannibal series. He is, no pun intended, killing it in that.

Man... like if Mads is in the game my hype is officially through the roof.

Now I'm wondering which other actors Kojima may be a fanboy of and is offering up a huge check to them to be part of his dream cast.

Don't get my hopes up too high SolidSnakex lol. But if Idris was in it, and it wouldn't be the first game he did as he was in CoDMW2, that would be great.

I'm just wondering which female talent Kojima would approach unless Death Stranding is going to have a strictly male cast. I'm sure Scarlet Johanson is on his list, but I think she may be priced a bit too high even for this production.

After experiencing Quiet I'm not sure I want see Kojima doing female characters.
