(RUMOR) New Splinter Cell in development, Michael Ironside returning as Sam Fisher

Crossing Eden

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
Ok so as some on this forum would know based on my post history, I have pretty reliable contacts about projects and stuff at Ubi. One of them dropped some WD2 and ACS info earlier in the year that the Nirolak can vouch for. This source informed me that there is a new Splinter Cell game in development, with Ironside recast as Sam Fisher. In an excerpt of their own words.

Regarding other games, I haven't been involved with Steep or Wildlands, but I was surprised Splinter Cell didn't appear at E3. I know Ironside is back. He was in the studio, I said Hi to him and his daughter. He was shooting a movie with Amy Jo Johnson, and I know someone who worked on that set and Ironside confirmed to him he was doing the new Splinter Cell. I know Toronto has the mocap studio for it.I'm hoping to hear or see something unofficial, if not official, this year, but its been hard to get anything beyond "It's Happening".

Hoping for a VGA announcement at the earliest.

UPDATE:

To throw a date on this: I did see Ironside and one his daughters at the TO studio last summer. This was just good timing, as I was there on other business.
I have two sources who worked on the set of The Space Between (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4682922/), which was shooting in TO. Ironside mentioned he was working on a new Splinter Cell. One source is someone I trust, the other is an acquaintance by degrees.
The movie shoot overlapped the same week as my encounter. As I understand it, he was here for the movie first and worked in the studio visit while in town.
None of us is bound by NDA over this, given our connections and circumstances, but it still feels shady to talk about since it's not official. I was surprised I hadn't seen this news from someone else by now, to be honest.
I know UbiSoft TO has a wonderful new mocap studio.
While I did express disappointment it wasn't shown at E3, this thing could be early along. I haven't seen actual in-game assets or production assets for myself (like the Syndicate extra timeline story). I don't know who is making it. I know other dev studios have used the mocap studio.
Remember Ubisoft studios collaborate often. The TO studio contributed content to Watch_Dogs 2, and For Honor also takes up a chunk there. I'd like to say this was another TO take on the franchise, but I will not until I know more.

Might be cooking for a bit longer than expected.

sounds great, but knowing modern UbiSoft my mind goes to the worst possible scenarios. Open world, RPG elements, multiplayer focus, an actual attempt at a narrative, etc.

Blacklist was quite good. All they needed was a modern engine and old Sam back.

This might be an extremely negative opinion, but I would not mind in the slightest if the next Splinter Cell is like Blacklist. I really really loved that game.

YESSS

Blacklist was fantastic

Let Sam go but if Ironside is back then hell yes.

Also - fuckyesfuckyesfuckyesfuckyesfuckyes

Let it be a true evolution of Chaos Theory with the many QOL improvements of Blacklist with even more crazy new shit.

And Spies vs Mercs.

Oh man, please let this be true. I loved Blacklist but Sam's new voice always felt a little odd to me. Although I thought Blacklist was good I want a new Splinter Cell to be a'm evolution of Chaos Theory. If they do that, it will be a Day One buy for me, especially if the game has Spies vs Mercs.

I was expecting a return of this series or syphon filter after the blow up with the MGS series. Someone was going to try to scoop up that fan base.

I'd be happy if we get back the anti-jingoist feel of the older games, and Fisher becomes a character again rather than generic protagonist man.

Never played SC but Im excited.

Say, do u happen to know what ubi thinks of Rainbow 6 siege? Because that game is all I play :D

I love Ironside in the original games but if he just shows up and phones it in like he did for conviction then I'll be disappointed.

Fisher? I was hoping they would restart with an actually interesting character for once.

Let's see where this lands, with MGSV out there stealth games will be really hard to match that quality of infiltration.

Remember when Splinter Cells SP was about manipulating sound and light and the MP was unique and innovative.... Let's go back to that.

Really hope it plays and takes place after Conviction. Didn't like Blacklist.

Seconded. I want the gameplay back to being a bit slower without the clunkiness. I like Sam as an unstoppable force a la Blacklist but I enjoyed the skulking around like a robust bastard a little more. Or maybe they can make something that feels entirely now. Spies vs Mercs is mandatory though.

Of course, just when I was like "I'm never buying a Ubisoft game again" this happens. I just hope it isn't open-world. Chaos Theory had some excellent level design.

The last Splinter Cell I played was pretty good. Forgot the subtitle but it had the Johnny Cash trailer and I impaled the villain on the American flag in the White House...I think. Lol

I'd be down for more though.

People play MGS for story reasons. Splinter Cell has always been the better stealth game than MGS with TPP maybe being the one exception.

Pretty cool, let's see what kind of mechanics they'll bring this time. I love how the SC formula is always evolving, unlike AC that already found it's stride.

Please don't be VR.
Please don't be multi-player only (R6)
Please don't be open world MMO style (Division)
Please go back to the stealth roots of the original SC
