This comes from the PS4 section of GameStop's website, and the url of the image still works but it seems like they removed it.

However it's still in the Google Cache of it:

As a reminder, Crash (and likely Cortex) are playable in ALL versions of the game, including the Wii U and Xbox One versions. They are just likely timed-exclusively available in the PS3 and PS4 starter packs (I imagine Cortex is in the PS3 box as well). and will get standalone releases later, as did DK and Bowser with Skylanders Superchargers (however they obviously only work with the Wii U and 3DS version), and as another reminder, DK and Bowser are confirmed to work in Imaginators also.

Thoughts?

Edit: Enlarged it 2x if it helps:

Brilliant move imo. Get crash awareness up with the young ones first, release crash remaster to further get the ball rolling and if all of that is successful go in full production for a AA crash title.

So it comes with 4 figures? Is it more expensive? Because the last game only had 2 and a car.
It's a bit weird overall, though. Can't imagine kids care about Crash and I don't think I heard the last version doing very well.

Looks like one of his eyes is red? Edit: Cortex's eye

Also, technically this is the first official Mario and Crash crossover?

This is the Crash Edition which is more expensive than the standard edition which us also available on PS4.

Seems that way.
Looking at the listings, all regular/standard versions are at $74.99.

The Crash and Dark Editions are at $99.99.

None of the regular editions include Crash. Which seems to be a recent change, as the original listings for PS4 and PS3 had Crash (and no Cortex) for the regular price.

I'm surprised to find that Crash has a lot of very young fans online.

That being said, while the last game got mostly 7s and some 6s review score wise, it sold fine. Not Activision superfranchise sales, but fine. The second to last game sold very well too. It had advertising similar to the original games, which probably helped. My opinion is that Activision just didn't know what to do with it after the merger and put it on the shelf until they could find the right idea. After tons and tons of fan outcry, Sony came calling with the remake idea and Activision signed on.

Nice. It looks good. Hopefully, this will inform kids more about Crash Bandicoot as a whole and get them properly excited for the Crash remake (?) once it releases.

Some Vicarious Visions resumes on LinkedIn suggest they are full remakes.

You wouldn't need to do multiple style concepts and mockup the UI if it was a direct port. Maybe redraw the art at higher res, but this seems to imply a totally new HUD and menus.

That picture of Crash looks so very low quality... hope that isn't the final render.
If it is, aw weeel! Still will enjoy it I'm sure...

Crash and Cortex, playable together. All this game needs now is Twinsanity's goofy soundtrack.

....Looks like its okay to post here. Nice to see this announcement honestly. Cortex is a great character and seeing him join Crash in their well, Crash, into Skylands is nice :). Cortex having a blaster can lead to a whole bunch of various shots and maybe he could even summon other Crash foes to do his budding (N. Gin, Tiny Tiger, Dingodile, ect).

Very smart to include both Crash & Cortex here as it could be a way to help show younger gamers the original crash games and the remakes/remasters getting more exposure through Imaginators is nice.

Such a god damned surprisingly good game

I loved your SuperChargers review and I completely agree; Skylanders touches on the Mascot-Platformer styled game really well.

There is no way they'd just take the original PS1 games, crank the internal resolution to 1080p, then release that as "Crash HD". It would look horrendous, it's full of stuff that has aged extremely badly, and it would basically kill the brand.

It's a remake. It was announced as such, and iirc confirmed to be a full remake around the time of announcement.

It's possible they might be using the old code, kind of like a Halo Anniversary style, but we'll be looking at new assets when we play it.

Considering how positive this Crash thread has been so far, I guess sharing this link is fitting. Its a Retrospective I wrote up for Twinsanity that I am very proud of :).

Seeing Cortex & Crash both being playable in Skylanders REALLY does invoke memories of Twinsanity for me a bit once I think about it some more :).

Thanks Kolma! :D

TADA!

Cortex is listed a Technology Elemental & having the Mage Class....interesting.

So the idea of Cortex being a ranged fighter seems more likely. I wonder how his blaster is going to work with different ammo types or maybe he will work like Giants/Swap Force's Fizz Pop. That character had three different kinds of potions he tossed at foes and they had various effects (explosion, splash damage, poison).

Thanks Kolma! :D

Damn that figure looks even better in the high res. That really cinches it. A team that actually went back to the roots of the art style more successfully than any attempt before it since the original days is one worth fully trusting. I have full faith in Vicarious Visions. Can't wait to buy this to support Crash's return.

No argument here. See my post from a while ago:
The Crash games will lean more towards remake than remaster, speaking as someone who knows a shitload about Crash and how it was made

A. They're hardcoded to the PS1 architecture in weird ways to achieve a lot of what they pulled off
B. They're programmed in a proprietary language that only a few people out there even know how to use
C. Up-rezzing the game and touching up the textures isn't going to do anything for the look, so you'll need completely redone graphics most likely
D. The sound is lowish quality in places, and will likely need to be redone
E. The "remaster" contains three games that are very different from each other in sometimes subtle, sometimes massive ways -- which means that if they're doing a remaster, not only do they have to make ONE awkward, specific engine into a version that works today, they have to do at least TWO -- Crash 1, and 2/3. 2/3 are pretty similar under the hood, from what I know.
F. If they are remaking them ground up, they would need two subsets of a new engine for Crash 1 and then 2/3 -- I doubt they'd do this, so Vicarious Visions remaking all three with unified physics and a single new engine (based on their Alchemy engine, most likely) is probably the way to go.

Plus for what it's worth, certain Sony employees have referred to the games as "remakes" and then deleted their tweets when the tweet got even a little publicity. This is also how we learned that Sony started the project and themselves went to Activision to get the Crash ball rolling again.

Thanks Kolma! :D

Not to discredit Vicarious Visions, but this Skylanders game is all being done by Toys For Bob, both figure designs, and actual game development. However, I do believe that Vicarious Visions will handle the remakemaster well.

No way I'll miss these two figures. Whenever they're sold separately, I'll be ready.

I don't see any blatant change to Cortex's classic design, which is really cool and bodes well for the remasters.

If the remasters mean that Crash 1 can finally be enjoyable to a modern audience then its nothing but great news.

Crash 1 is a good game and all but its aged like shit and that save system has got to go.

I think great care will be taken to bring Crash 1 up to speed with 2 and 3.

While I still greatly enjoy the games, even the movement in 2 and 3 feels a bit stiff compared to the fluidity and accuracy possible today. I'd be dissapointed if they simply recreated the 3D movement as 1:1 to the psx games.

Twinsanity controlled like butter, that seems like the gold standard to base Crash's movement on.

Is Crash confirmed available for all platforms? I am going to buy the game for wiki as usual so...

I... don't really agree. I feel like Twinsanity is too jerky for the amount of crate-bouncing puzzles employed in Crash 1-3.

Unrelated to this but I can't wait to see anything from the remasters
PSX can't come soon enough!!

Crash looks kinda weird, Cortex looks fine though. I mean the actual physical models. Crash seems to look fine in the game, it's the figure that just looks off in some way.

Me too :V

I want to see just how big of a difference the new graphics are, and everything along those lines.

Maybe we'll get some footage during Gamescom or Paris Game Week? The series is popuarl in EU region.

For that matter, I am concerned about the remakes somewhat. If you play the original games on PS1 they had some good weight to your actions. Hard to descibe properly but that's what it felt like to me:p

I doubt we see the remakes until PSX this year, honestly.
