I loved what Eidos Montreal accomplished with Human Revolution. I can't wait to see how that experience has informed their follow-up. At least, judging from what I've seen, it won't be a compromised Invisible War-scenario.

PC Gamer recently published a retrospective on that troublesome, underwhelming sequel. Revisiting Deus Ex: Invisible War, one of PC gaming's biggest disappointments

Odd thing is, I think HR suffers from a lot of the faults that IW did, yet it's praised. HR is more similar to IW than it is to DX1. Blunt and limited choices, unnaturally "gamey" level design, emphasis on console oriented gameplay...

I mean I like HR but celebrating it while condemning IW feels bizarre.

Question Sparks, not sure if you said it in the last few pages, but are you running it @ 1080p? And is that temporal AA some sort of SMAA or superior AA methods like Fallout 4's TAA? Is aliasing an issue?

Yes I'm running this game in 1080p and from my understanding AA is not really a big issue for me. This is a preview build so some things might change but the Temporal AA seems to be a superior form of AA compared to FO4.

Awesome. Thanks for answering, FO4's AA was already very good in my book, excited :)

Huh, I remember being impressed in HR on how much buildings actually were laid out like real buildings, useless bathrooms that didn't lead to anything and all. They didn't felt like a simple game level at all.

This is just wrong.
Play the Director's cut with developer commentary to see how far they went to craft each single room where they would consider object placement, characters, their clothing and the location of the room so that it would make sense with regards to the story and the context. They would even consider little things like which direction the NPC is facing relative to the room so that it made sense when the player entered.

As for the choices, the game provides you with blunt choices but you can also ignore them and choose something else. It'd be ironical if the reason why you think the game has blunt choices is because you couldn't figure out the subtle one. For instance, there's this detention centre in the Missing Link DLC where you are told you have to decide if you want to save a whistleblower to reveal the truth about the detention centre or if you want to save the prisoners. Turns out you can ignore, explore and save both....and what's more is that you can do so before you are even presented with a choice. The game designer took into account a lot of possibilities and they wrote the dialogues considering all those possibilities.

Seriously...just do yourself a favour and play the director's cut with developer commentary.

I have and they work fine on my system but I'm getting around 45-50 FPS on High and 40-45 on Ultra so I chose to go with medium settings.

Speaking of which a user did tell me to post a screen shot of the graphics options and even though I'm under embargo I think it's safe to post these here. The resolutions go all the way up to 4K

Also if you have any more questions, I'll be doing an AMA on Friday regarding the game right after the review embargo is lifted. Most of the questions that I can't answer now can for sure be asked on the AMA. http://pixelsgamereviews.tumblr.com/ask

I plan on getting a GTX 1070 for my birthday in December so by then my current rig should be up to date.

2 GB card

You're a life saver, Sparks. I've always been hyped about MD but there were some rumours about the PC version not being a good port. But 40fps on Ultra with a 2GB 770 seems very reasonable, and there are plenty of graphics customizations.

Thanks a lot!

Deathsparks is getting 60fps on mid settings and 40-45 on ultra on a 770, i think we're good (i have a 970 too).

I think we'll be able to. The 970 is still a pretty damn good card.

We will, 970 is still a great card

If my lower end system running well on medium is any indication I think you're good running this game on High or Ultra settings.

Awesome to hear :).

No problem man, I know some of you were worried about this not being a good port so I think it was best for me to post these graphic options to help lower concern about this port.

Coming from Nixxes I'm not surprised but I was relieved to see that this port is really good and has plenty of customizations.

Aaaaaarggggg. I need it now.
I was going to preorder it, but after nms, I'm waiting for the embargo to lift.

At least the pc options seem to be very comprehensive.

Do someone have it now? How?

Review code provided by the developers, I work for opencritic so I asked if there was a chance they have codes and in fact they did.

Also I'm one of the 30 launch partners for the contributor program that just launched today, this program is indented for smaller publications like myself.

UAE stores and smaller UK retailers sold it over the weekend.

Just chiming in to say I had no idea there was a third option until I watched the end of Game Informer's Gamer Club over the weekend. Blew my mind and also had me down a little since I went with the whistleblower option and never even bothered to consider a third option. :(

still loading the ps4 patch (3,8 gb), but the non patched version has no video options at all (aside from brightness).

can a few people throw in their consensus on the previous deux ex game and why this one is hyped? Completely out of the loop but curious what people are excited by

I've had the PS4 version since the weekend if anybody has some questions, I'm not too far into it, haven't had much time to play but loving what I have, improves on HR in every way.

Hmmm hopefully you can check the update history to see what the patch does. Nobody has chimed in yet from those who bought early copies.

Also on the Deus Ex GO game if you sign in with your Square Enix account and complete the objectives listed, like beat the story etc, then you can be awarded up to 5 Praxis points to use in Mankind Divided. The only kicker is this only applies to the PC and Xbox One versions of the game, not PS4...?

As mentioned in another thread there will be no DirectX 12 support at launch which I don't mind since the game runs fine but I just wanted to point that out

I don't agree with that at all. The actual individual levels in HR are wonderfully laid out and feel like they serve their intended function in the fiction. That the devs were able to then allow them to approached in such a diverse manner is a huge accomplishment.

The hubs definitely had some layout problems though.

And what, exactly, is "console orientated gameplay"? I can see the distinction potentially with certain strategy games but FPS games have successfully coexisted with console and PC for over a decade without notable concessions for each. Other than maybe making Hengsha one continuous district I don't see much about HR that feels like "man, this would have been so much better if they didn't have to develop with 360 and PS3 in mind.

With IW, though, it was clearly a game where the console hardware at the time couldn't remotely keep up with the ambition.

how does it play - is the fps a smooth 30fps? all the preview videos kinda showed jerky movment when playing.

Nice! I'm jealous.

How do is it look and run? Pretty smooth frame rate? Any video options beyond brightness?

Are you playing stealthily or guns blazing or in between? How does it...feel?

Music? Engaging story? Thanks!!

That, to me, is the mark of a true Deus Ex game. Those moments when you're like 'Surely it won't happen, but I wonder if I do this...' and then it totally pays off.

It's because in an age where video game reboots/sequels of old games retained little of what made the original special, Human revolution not only ended up being a game that retained all that made the original special...but also did so while being one of the best games of last generation.

Other than maybe making Hengsha one continuous district I don't see much about HR that feels like "man, this would have been so much better if they didn't have to develop with 360 and PS3 in mind.

Just going to add to this, even if there was no console version they probably would not have been able to make Hengsha one continuous district, because it was their engine which was the limiting factor as even with more powerful hardware it would have ended up chugging.

Can anyone with the game tell me how many hubs are in the game? Also how big are they and are they fun to explore?

I've only seen the first hub so far and it doesn't look like any of the hubs from HR. Wondering if there is a more cyberpunk city like China was in HR and if there is a lot to do aside from the main and side quests.

Quite worried about the lack of an FOV option in the settings. After HR let you put it up over 100 I can't see why you won't be able to here.

Well, I guess I really should do that, thanks. It will be an interesting insight.

Actually there is FOV options in the menus... but for some reason it tells you the percentage of the FOV it's currently at.

I don't know 100% is but I know that 50% is probably 75 and 75% is 90, Give me a second to pull up this image of what it looks like.
