NO Man's Sky Photo Thread ¯\_()_/¯

Found my first extreme planet. Weather conditions were so cold that I spend a lot of time underground, digging from cave to cave.

But when I went back to the surface I noticed that the sky was full with literal Chinese Dragons:

3 m tall, so about 30 m long.
That dinosaur looking thing in the middle is almost 7 m tall btw, some of the biggest non-bipedal creatures I've seen were on this planet.

It also had vast (-90 °C "water" temperature. come on call it something else) oceans with marine life.

Some nice mountain ranges as well:

Probably one of the best/most diverse and most challenging planets I've been on so far. Also the first I have 100% lifeforms on.

btw those tentacle things are not animals and can be farmed for some weird purple element.

Couldn't help but take shots from all angles here....

What frustrates me is that this is 6880x2880 running at ~40 FPS. But when I enter a ship... for some reason my VRAM jumps to over 6GB, which is the limit for my cards (980TI). So the game drops to 1 FPS. But that is the only resolution I'm happy with for grabbing screenshots. I can play at 5160x2160 easily, but I get a ton of aliasing at that res.

So for this shot, I positioned the ship at 5160x2160. Closed the game, swapped to 6880x2880, took a screenshot, then switched to 5160x2160 so I could hop in my ship in order to face it in the other direction. Then I had to close the game, swap res, and take another screenshot.

FOR FUCK SAKE, IT'S 2016. LET US CHANGE THE RESOLUTION IN-GAME. Arg.

What res are you rendering at? The IQ is so good. And are you using any AA? My 970 is severely underutilized in this game.

I'm playing in 5120x2880. (@26fps with a 1080, which is not great but ok)
With sweetfx for smaa (witch I'm not entirely sure it's working), a tiny touch of contrast and sharpness.

what the fuck you can fly your ship into a cave?

It is not in a cave. I'm using a narrow FOV here this is what gives you this impression. (FOV modified with Dead End Thrills cheat engine table)

Edit : sorry for the double post. Won't append again.

Jim, your shots always make me so sad. I want to get into screenshotting, and then I see what you've posted and it's so stunning, and I realize I'll never be able to take something one tenth as good and I end up disappointed in my own lack of skill. Between this and your Witcher 3 shots, I'm just floored. Great stuff as usual.

You as well cooly. You guys are killing it with this game.

Well, you should get into it because you think it would be a fun hobby and realize that it's not a competition. If you try and compare yourself to what other people are doing, then you'll never be happy. That's why I still like doing it even though people like DeadEndThrills exists (or TheOctagon on GAF).

And in a game like No Man's Sky, you have the opportunity to grab images that nobody else can simply because they'll likely never see the game set of scenery\ship combinations.

Anywho, screenshots =)

Man, your screenshots are amazing dude. If you don't mind me asking, what kinds of settings do you use for these?

Single frame screenshots are 6880x2880 which gets me 35-40 FPS now that SLI works.

That pano was 8 screenshots at 3500x3500.

In-game settings are maxed except AA which is disabled. I'm using SMAA from reshade instead.

Couldn't agree more.
And wooooow, those screenshots... congrats!

By the way, are you using WindowedBorderlessGaming to get a higher resolution ? I can't get this thing working. I tried but I just get a black screen because the game reset the higher resolution to 1080p when he start, even if I lock the configuration file.

WBG doesn't do anything in this game. It doesn't hotsample. If it did, we wouldn't have to shut the game down just to change the resolution. No, I'm using DSR and custom resolutions.

So, SLi Titan X Pascal?
980 TIs. With Titan XPs I'd be getting 60 FPS easy.
