PlayStation Network Thread | August 2016

Is Read Only Memories still coming out this week? I only found out it was a thing that exists a few days back, but it sounds like something I'd really like.

Wow, almost halfway through the month and I made barely any posts here :(. Sorry guys but been busy traveling with family and writing on 3wirel/Crashy News to make posts here. Plus.....haven't been playing much Vita stuff lately outside of slowly digging my way through Patapon 3 and Oreshika.

Will try to post more this coming week and hope we all are having fun playing games on our Vitas :).

So I just got a PS+ code on Amazon for a friend's birthday on the 30th. Will he be able to redeem it by then without it expiring? I'd just like to be sure.

I guess this is more of an Amazon question than a PS question.

I believe most PSN credit or PS+ codes expire no earlier than a year after purchase, so you should be fine.

So my review of A.W.: Phoenix Festa for PlayStation Vita is up.

The TL;DR version; It's a title that tries to pander to everyone, and ends up falling flat because of it. Make sure you know what you're getting into before buying it (it's $40 US).

Probably an easy platinum, though it'd require a lot of grinding and time.

Appears based on your review, the game tries to do a lot of things but they do none of them well; just 'well enough' as if they are ticking boxes off or something. As someone who isn't a fan of the anime and hope this would be like the SAO games (and get me interested in the series), its a shame this game didn't end up being great.

But that was a very well done review and you did a great job writing it man :).

Every time they announce a FW update I hope for them to add customizable controls when remoteplaying on the Vita.

Or if that is impossible, give us the possibility to choose the original remoteplay controls (back touch) in every game like they have already done in PSNow.

The latest game experience that gets held back because of strange controls are No Man's sky.

I love the game, but I don't understand how someone thought that it is a good idea to use L for secondary fire and R for melee, while shooting/mining is mapped to the top right of the front touch screen and scan is done by pressing the top left.

If someone's job is to decide remoteplay control schemes for each game, that someone is doing a pretty terrible job and should get fired. If it is done by the game devs themselves, there aren't many of them that could possibly have ever held a vita or even seen a picture of one.
---------------------

"..On the PS Vita, though, you can arrange where on the touch screens you want the R2/L2 and R3/L3 buttons to go.  You can have them all on the front touch screen, all on the back, a little bit of both.  Whatever is more comfortable."

(from reviews2go's PSNow review)

Tempted by Absolute Drift, watched a few vids from the PC version, and it looks right up my street, anyone played the PS4 version?, any performance or control issues?

I want to download the single player portion of Uncharted 3 on PS3, the one they gave on PS+ a while ago, but I can't find it, can anyone help me, please?

New vita locked and loaded after my beautiful white OLED vita failed in its battle against a tub full of water.

Love the lightness of the new model. Love the mini-USB though that means I have like 3 old school cables and an old school Sony battery that I guess I'll ebay or something. Don't notice much screen difference but I'm not big on that. I'd still rather have my white OLED but I'm not too torn up.

My 64g card still works and the transition was simple. My Shiren still works, though I need to get back into it (been trying to plat CG instead and get it off my system).

I can't seem to get PSMobile games to work. Authentication fails. I find this terribly sad because I've got like 30 PSM games on the card. I get taking down the store, and while I still think you should be able to dl games you've bought, I even understand taking down download servers to a degree. I don't get removing the authentication process entirely.

I've also been playing Aqua Kitty. Such a great shmup. Plays like an updated Defender, really smooth and nice on the vita.

And Poltergeist is a nice puzzle game. Each level puts a bunch of different people in different rooms (with up to 3 'scare points'/hit points, and you've got a set of different 'actions' (haunting styles like moving objects, or possession, etc). Some of the people can prevent certain actions, so you need to devise how to use your limited actions to scare everyone out. Some of these can be fairly complex. It's a straight puzzle game, so if you like those grab it. It's a bit dry overall imo.

CG was a waste of money overall. Interesting ideas don't always carry over to good gameplay, and in this case, that's its downfall. It's not terrible [though the fetch quests are], and the fs is no big deal, but the game itself just never engaged me. They do a good job keeping you appropriately leveled, though. I'm in postgame, just grinding out the last few trophies and can't wait to be free.

Glad you're back up and running. :)

Where are you located? I might be interested in taking the cables off your hands. I have an OLED model as my backup/JP-PSN model, but if/when the cable ever gives out, I'm boned.

While very little of this is Vita related, the past few days of news has been fantastic for me personally :).

The new trailer of Injustice 2, Yooka-Laylee & NeiR 2's Opening Theme releasing all made my day.....but it was already made with the new Wampa Islands/N. Sanity Island level in Skylanders XD!

It looks like Crash, sounds like Crash and the level looks so much fun. Chase sections, bits of level design, the bright visuals.....feels faithful to the original Crash games to a tee :). Vicarious Visions did great work on the series in the past, so its wonderful seeing them have a hand with the series again.

Regarding Vita stuff, been playing a review copy of Dungeon Punks and enjoying it a good deal. Reminds me of a RPG take on Golden Axe in many cases and the different classes & paths you can take for levels makes it so much fun to replay. Will be reviewing this later in the week, so will share a link to the review when it goes live with you guys :D.

I hope to be reviewing Attack on Titan & Project Diva X this month too, so looking forward to that if things pan out :).

Great month for me thus far and hope you all have been having a fantastic month as well!

I'm in the US.
I've got a 'like new' Sony OLED cable, a 'like new' off brand OLED cable that works [my primary cable, actually], and then the original cable, which frayed where they all fray, at which point I bound it up and used it in a stationary 'charge zone' [it still works fine, I just don't move it around to prevent further damage]. I may even have a 4th lying around mint somewhere, can't remember... I was ready to use my OLED for the next 20 years, lol.

I also have the Sony Vita battery pack, which is absolutely awesome. It's got something like 8 hours of charge in it... plug it in, charge it up, then when you want to use it you flip the cables around and hook it up to your vita. Fantastic for trips, small [it fits in my headphone case in the middle open area]. I'm going to have to research a replacement one that doesn't need an OG vita cable to charge.

I also have 2 or 3 different brands of 'trigger grips'. And.. I think I have a clamshell, but my toddler may have broken that. Basically, tons of OLED vita gear.

slow thread is slow, where are all the Vitacats?

Busy playing games for review (on PC) and the only Vita game I'm playing now is Dungeon Punks :).

Many of us are likely busy, as this is the summer and many people travel and stuff :D!

On the non vita side of things, I got Natsuiro High School (oh yes i did), GG Xrd Revelator, anohter edition of bloodborne from Japan for my collection and some old PS1 Persona games. Been playing mostly Overwatch still and a bit of review stuff. Mostly focussed on Attack on Titan right now.

Well shit, maybe I should bookmark that thread now too. I rarely jump outside this one for fear of being trolled into posting something ban-worthy (like mentioning Vita in a "public" thread).

In other news, another episode of VITAlity is now available - ready to catch you Vitacats up on the week's big news; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFTfCEGCbCk

Yeah, I post more in the upcoming Vita games thread than this one now for some reason.

Anyway, I'm just playing Senran Kagura and Trails of Cold Steel at the moment. Went through another bout of SAO: Hollow Fragment but I find it too repetitive to play for more than a few days at a time.

Also I had a spree of ordering games when I got paid yesterday. Rainbow Moon (Vita) physical and Code Realize/Ukiyo no Roushi from Play-Asia. Gonna have to start chopping down this backlog soon though!

Where do you live? Play-Asia have Code Realize for £25 at the moment. I ordered from there because I wanted another game (Ukiyo) and had a $5 off $60 spend voucher though.

365 games have it for £25 as well if that's any help.

Otherwise, if you're in the US, it's on sale for like $12 on PSN I think.

Corecell is bringing a Thai indie game called Wanderjahr to the North American store on August 31st:

Wanderjahr – Geek Game EVER

PS Vita Store release date confirmed at 31 August

Hi Everybody

It is Corecell Again, while we are busying making our new game.

We are happy to introduce our new title “Wanderjahr” from our partner Workyrie Company. The game will hit North America PSN Store for PS Vita this 31 August 2016.

What make we love “Wanderjahr” enough to bring it to console is,

It is totally geek-centric game with a bunch of deep down contents such as RPG point & click game. You can play up to 18 characters with different roles, fight against tricky monsters in very challenging battles, solve the mysterious quests, and discover the beautiful and inspirational story.

The most impressive point of this game is “real game source code” had been shown inside the game as a part of the story telling and as a hint for player. I can say it is the craziest idea that I’ve ever seen.

“First game ever to let’s player enjoy finding hint in source code!!!”

Geek-idea only! (Some source code will be provide in encyclopedia mode)

WpjThn (developer) said “One of my secret intention in this game is I want to spread out the trend of Coding Era and find the real gamer. Cause we are living in the world of computer machine surround us, we should understand how to command it.“

More than that, one of interesting thing about Wanderjahr is, all the game source code was developed by one man who patience enough to polish this game for 4.5 years.

This crazy idea is not hit much in Steam players, but I believe that PlayStation player is totally different. Wanderjahr on PS Vita comes with new features that doesn’t have on PC version, totally new wide screen interface, Hi-definition graphic and rebalancing the game.

Then Wanderjahr will be waiting for you in PS Vita PSN store on 31 August 2016.

Don’t miss to prove yourself geek with this game. #ProveItYourself

————————————————————————————

Wanderjahr tells the story of UN Jariya, a global organization charged with maintaining world order and peace. You see, a hundred years ago, the Universal Source Code was discovered – and its secrets and structure was the key to create a better universe in harmony and peace. With changes, updates and tweaking, the code could be improved to create a better existence to all, but alas, when you least expect it, two weeks before you are done, evil shows its ugly face, and monsters appear in droves with the intent to destroy everything you have worked for. Is this a coincidence?

So I finally finished my second article, top 10 Vita localizations that should've happened. It's another meaty read, but might as well share it here since the last one went down quite well.

Also hoping to finish my J-Stars Vita review soon. It's been a slog to write it though.

I have a feeling Mahouka would be shit now that I've played the demo as much as I have, but there are some other good titles and generalization in that list. ^_^

I responded to your article on Twitter but I really loved reading it. Shows a lot of great Vita games locked in Japan at the moment and I would love to play all the games you have on your list.

Thankful that the games I really wanted to come over (Ray Giant, SAO Hollow Realization, God Eater Series, ect) ended up coming over. Very nice to finally play all those games, well in the case of SAO, looking forward to playing it. But you get my point XD.

Regarding gaming releases for this week, I hope you guys consider giving Alone with You a shot. Its releasing on the Vita & PS4 on Tuesday and I am reviewing the game, but from what I played so far (2-4 hours) I love my time with it so far. Can't wait to talk more about the game later tomorrow/early Tuesday :).

Thanks man ^.^. There's certainly a lot of great-looking Vita games out there.

It's alright. Cheaply made but there's fun to be had there, probably not worth the price of importing though.

Speaking of Japanese brawlers, I also finished my J-Stars review. It's alright.

Apologies if this is too far off topic, but I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for must downloads that can only be found in the JPN or HK PSN store.

The HK store seems to be the middle ground between US and JPN having some Asia-exclusive titles in a format that is easy to navigate for English speaking players.

However, I would totally love to know if there are any must-play games in the Japanese store as well.
