NoA: Monster Hunter Generations (3DS) is the #1 selling game in July 2016

Don't MH games always sell well? It came out in July, where nothing else of significance came out.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't the highest selling game lol.

no? i think they started selling well on 3DS with some Wii sales when third appeared, but nothing significant worldwide, Japan is another story however.

Capcom is really having all the great time collaborating with Nintendo on this series for this gen here.

Capcom supporting 3DS markets in Japan and SEA countries while Nintendo is helping Capcom on growing MH brand becoming bigger outside of JP.

If only Capcom would give Megaman some chances.T_T

Generations is the first MH I bought. The playstyle finally "clicked" with me after playing the demo. And I think also having become an avid listener of the 8-4 play podcast helped since they are huge defenders of the series. Loving the game so far, can't wait to see the NX iteration, hope the system has enough power to deliver a good home console experience to MH.

And man, dat Pokemon Go power. Holy shit.

It feels great to see Monster Hunter going so strong after having such a rough beginning outside of Japan as a franchise. Can't wait for 5 to come.

Thats what going to happen when a proper company is doing the marketing here rather than Capcom/Sony abysmal effort last time on PSP.

Nintendo is doing everything right with this series here. TV promotion, Ads everywhere, demos, event like E3 and gamescom promotion and many easter egg collab costume.

It is no wonder MH is getting more popular. Now, the only thing left for Nintendo to make it even more popular is making Hunter into SMASH.^_^ HUNTER FOR SMASH Guys.

Monster Hunter is definitely a thing in the west, not only in the US, but Europe too.

Now we continue to play it for hundreds of hours while we wait for Stories
NX
.

Haha. Not only in the West lol. Here in SEA, MH is the biggest draw for people to own 3DS. If Nintendo can make sure NX launch with MH 5, u can bet ur Fellyn ass there lol. That NX is going to sell like hotcakes in SEA.^_^

Adding online was by far the biggest factor in it gaining ground in the west. Other things like Souls games opening people's minds a little, reviewers finally starting to 'get' the series, and of course accessibility and usability improvements all contributed. Possibly most importantly, a great community.

MH could go anywhere from this point. It's up to Capcom...and that worries me a bit, honestly.

I totally agree about the online part. Western gamers don't really get together for local multiplayer as much as they do in Japan. I liked the psp games, but I gave up on them because I didn't know anyone else that played. Being able to play online is a huge inventive for me.

Growth of MH franchise in the West is legit. Props to Capcom and Nintendo.
I like the franchise and all but MHGEN's sales declined from 4u so I don't really think that counts as growth. Player retention also seems lower as there are far lesser rooms compared to 4u within the same time frame.

Generations is sort of a remixed side game though. If MH5 declines from MH4U then that'd be a clearer decline.

Hell yeah MonHun! Well deserved.

I'll take a new MonHun, or a Generations port, AND a Stories port on the NX please! I did my part in this little milestone, Capcom, now feed me!

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

That depend. If MH5 is released in the first yr or two of a new platform, it will do lower numbers due to low install base.

MH Gen is a side game. That is expected. But to do this good of sales numbers as a side game, and not too far off from 4U is good enough. What I mean by growth of MH in the West is legit is that after the breakout of 4U, the interest in MH franchise in the West is still hot given the high sales of MH Gen.

That depend. If MH5 is released in the first yr or two of a new platform, it will do lower numbers due to low install base.

It depends more on how loyal the current Western fanbase is.

I really need to get started on this. Currently working through some other games. If 4 was any indication, this game will have some long legs, especially with this community.

4U had the boost of N3DS though. This one is a standalone release which is not even a mainline new title. I don't think that really count here.

Nope, the next game is likely XG/Generations Ultimate.

I'm actually curious as to whether or not they'll give this the same treatment as the mainline games with regards to G content.

Obviously i'll buy the shit out of it if it does happen, but i'm honestly not expecting it for this title.

NX *NEEDS* minecraft and a monster hunter in launch window. Needs needs needs.
MHGU on NX here we come.

Do it Capcom, you know you wanna. I bet it's happening.
It's got some really great gameplay. They only made it better with Hunter Arts. This is well deserved praise either way.
Hunter Arts need to be incorporated into the main series. It's an experiment that works wonderfully.
MH Stories is what I want out of this. I actually didn't enjoy MH Generations because it felt annoying holding A for half my playtime.
Hold 'A'?
MH NX Cant wait
I heard bolded in Bart Scott's voice.

Considering the sales it's a no brainer. I fully expect an announcement later this year. Capcom would be stupid to not release it.

Capcom did have a mysterious, un-titled, non-Stories Monster Hunter title in its financial report with sales expectations of 2m. Not to mention Generations making a point of putting all its save data on the SD card sure would make it easy to transfer one's hunters to an Ultimate version.

Monster Hunter you say...mmm never got into it, though since i picked up a 2DS to play all the good games i missed from 2013(when i sold my original 3DS) to now, i could try it out, if i'll manage to find the time for it among all the other 3DS games i'm playing right now!

I picked up Monster Hunter 4u recently and I really enjoy it. I had Tri for the Wii but I didn't get into it too much. I think it's a series you really have to keep an open mind about, because it's easy to expect the game to be a fast paced action RPG, which it's really not. It's a lot more methodical and deliberate.

The Souls series probably helped give it a boost in popularity, because the games share a lot of common elements.

Glad to see the series getting the love it deserves.

EDIT: I would love an NX Monster Hunter game, especially if the rumors of it being a hybrid are true.

I had MH3U on the Wii U and when I finally got a Pro controller I was whooping way more ass and my strikes and positioning were way more accurate.

I need a chart comparing the amount of ass whooped before and after. Bonus points for a line graph showing the trend of ass whooped per day (AWPD) over a seven-day date range.
