So what games are we expecting to be there?
For 1st parties i'd guess:
Uncharted 4 DLC
Horizon
God of War
And for 3rd parties:
Watch Dogs 2
Battlefield 1
Final Fantasy XV
Maybe the rumored Deep Down re-reveal

My guesses for games showing up (not in order of appearance in the show necessarily):
Uncharted 4 (update, too early for DLC)
Bloodborne (update)
GT Sport
Horizon
Detroit: Become Human
God of War
PSVR game montage or a few trailers for PSVR games taking advantage of Neo
Deep Down
Red Dead 3

Red Dead is mostly wishful thinking but I think there is a small chance.

If Sony wasn't trying to force their current user base into upgrading, Neo wouldn't exist. Sony wants their entire user base to upgrade to Neo. Are they going to say that? Of course not but make no mistake about it, that's what they want and prefer.

I think all Sony "want" is a premium and a non-premium version of their current best selling electronics product on the market. Would they "want and prefer" every current owner buy the new version? I don't know, but it seems like a logistical impossibility.

Any updates on Sony getting a stronger CPU? I would prefer that instead due to how weak the current PS4 CPU is, but I can understand of they can't in order to sell under $399.

What would you expect them to change the CPU to?
idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ lul. something that could close the gap a bit with that killer gpu. Hopefully the overclocking and the improved GCN will be good enough to not be a total slouch in the end.
AMD don't have any better solution at the price at that time.
ah. i see. I think $399/1TB is the magic number for Neo. don't know how anyone could complain about that. though im half expecting $449 too, but i can definitely see any price higher than that turning millions of people off. im sure Sony compromised the right things to get a nice price/performance one-two punch.

Not going to happen if they launch this year and at 399.

AMD have no CPU that can be launched this year significantly more powerful than NEO.

Sony are banking on price and coming in early over CPU power for NEO. I'm sure they will prioritize Zen the next chance they get(aka PS5)

I wish they never committed to that shitty ass cpu in the first place. It'll probably be the main reason if we don't get certain games at 60fps. You guys think that moving from the Jaguar for Neo would have had an effect on the systems' ability to play the same games?

Yeah pathetic Jaguar is responsible for a lot of games not being able to even keep 30 fps frames.

No way Battlefield 1 will be there, it has a Xbox marketing deal. I could see a higher resolution version of COD being there.

The rest of your guesses sound very likely

I'd like to see The Last Guardian and Gravity Rush 2 too. I think they could do wonders to show dat horsepower of Neo with those "simple first party" titles.

BF1 footage did show up in Sony's E3 sizzle reel. Maybe their marketing deal doesn't exclude them from appearing for the Neo event, but ads will have their logo?

I hope to see it but I don't think SIEA will give GR2 stage time (outside of a few seconds in a montage).

I think they might show Nioh on Neo because Nioh is the first game let you choose 30fps or 60fps, a glimpse of Neo mode graphical setting.

The only exclusive partnership between Sony and Rockstar would be bundles. And probably exclusive gameplays captured on Playstation systems.

PS: This was from the Gamestop Expo 2013 during Sony's private conference.

So if anything, if the speculation of Rockstar being at PSM does come true, it'll be to showcase a gameplay trailer of their new projects in NEO mode.

Yep. I expect PS5 in 2019 or 2020 with some variation of Zen and likely Navi or whatever AMD has at that point. For Neo, though, those leaked specs sound right for what's possible in 2016. Scorpio will have an advantage in 2017 and beyond, but that's how the market works and what price adjustments are for.

While I agree a rockstar exclusive is unlikely besides maybe agent miraculously resurfacing but not sure what the point of the picture is?

I've mentioned this a few times, but PS4 came out five months before Jaguar did.
I don't know where you get your info for but first Juguar was released in May 2013.

All these where released in May 2013.

What does that have to do with putting a brand new, nonmobile experimental architecture into an APU before its official desktop or server release
Not only that his claim is wrong.

BTW AMD actually has Puma that is exactly Jaguar with some few tricks for better power draw.

There is absolutely nothing "forceful" about this. It exists as a premium console for more hardcore PS consumers that always want the latest hardware or newest thing, that's it.

Any consumer electronics business would love all their buyers to upgrade to their newest gadget but they know that's not realistic. Everybody knows that. It's there to serve people who WANT to have a higher end experience if it's available. I don't feel forced to upgrade to a Neo one bit.

Every game's development is different. Even if you think they began 18 months ago, it's not strange at all that 1.)They didn't feel comfortable showing gameplay to millions of eyes at the game's current state (perfectly understandable) or 2.)It wasn't needed at the time.

It's pretty much inevitable that they'll lift the PS4 compatibility requirement a year or two down the road, though. Same story with MS.

How much do you want to bet?

I don't understand why some people have this strange concept in their heads that NEO is supposed to be something other than a more powerful iteration of the current PS4, which Sony has stated on more than one occasion themselves. If they plan on selling PS4 at a reduced price, or come out with a slim, what your saying makes even less sense. They want a premium option as well as a lower cost option. Anything else doesn't really gel with reality.

This entire ecosystem nonsense is specifically about not breaking compatibility.

The weirdest part about this is that you expect NEO to actually offer much more than PS4, even if they did purely focus on NEO. The marginal jump in CPU and RAM is nowhere near enough to support breaking of compatibility for, and would just piss off their OG PS4 userbase than anything else.

BTW AMD actually has Puma that is exactly Jaguar with some few tricks for better power draw.

Yeah, i've heard Puma is basically just a Jaguar that can overclock with lower power requirements. But i've hear also that the Jaguar power requirements themselves have been lowered because of the switch to the lower process node, so i don't know if they would bother using it over just going with Jaguar again.

i think its all a matter of when they want to release the PS5...i can absolutely see them dropping OG PS4 support with the release of the PS5, but continuing to support the Neo until the PS5.5 is out...

Yep. I hope sony waits till 2019 for their next numbered unit. Let technology get good and ready to support a full upgrade.

Why would they drop PS4 yet support NEO, when NEO is an extension of PS4, and the actual components would be comparatively similar? They might as well just keep supporting PS4 as well at that point.

I don't understand this splitting of PS4 and NEO, they are the same unit and live and die on the same base foundation technology wise.

I think Sony themselves will encourage people to move to PS5 in terms of dev priority but like every other generational change, devs will be allowed to make games on PS4/NEO for as long as they want. I also think that PS5 will support full BC with PS4/NEO games, which will allow devs to continue to sell games built for PS4 and NEO indefinately

90% chance of ps5 in 2019 imo

People expecting neo exclusives are crazy. I can maybe see a vr game or two exclusive down the line but there will be a clean break from ps4/neo when ps5 comes out

What sort of upgrade would you like/expect of PS5? If it comes in 2019 I can't see much more than another 2-3 times jump over Neo.

If that turns out fairly accurate, I wonder how such a smaller leap would go down?

Almost 3 more weeks. Why is time going so damn slowwww? :/
I'm really looking forward to the official reveal and how they handle it. What software will they show(new Red Dead hmmm)? Who will present(hopefully Cerny)? Exciting times ahead.

I expect an 11-12tflop PS5 in 2019-2020. Sony will want to eat up the gap between Neo and Scorpio. Would double the computational power of Scorpio be enough though?

What can we realistically expect?

You think all devs who made games and worked with the original PS4 over the years all their documentation's of their optimisation and engine work and all that jazz that they now have experience with the original PS4 hardware, that will all disappear when NEO comes?

2-3 times, (or rather, 10TF or more) sounds good if there's no Forward Compatbility requirement that all games must also work on the neo or ps4.

It'll show enough of an improvement (even over Neo or Scorpio) simply due to being able to have games exclusively tailored to that hardware.

That's IF there's no FC stipulation.

I expect a 9 or 10tflop GPU, 16GB HBM and Zen CPU. Remember they are not counting the NEO in the jump, but PS4 to PS5, so it should be a pretty big jump regardless.

NEO's GPU is constrained by PS4, so having that more than x2, with the ability for devs to fully take advantage of it for new game experiences should be pretty good.

I agree that 9-10TF is about right. My only worry is if AMD/Sony could deliver a APU with that sort of power in a console that would need to come in at ~150W total. I highly doubt 7nm will be ready in 3 years right now and also that Sony would return to a 200W + beast.

I guess it would be too much to expect Sony to even hint about future PlayStation's on the 7th but it sure would be nice to get a clearer idea of where they are going.

I think this amount of power is more realistic for potential PS5, they still need to worry about TDP and they will likely still be using 14nm FinFET. In addition I think they will add a pool of 24-32GB of DDR4 to go along with the HBM2 memory or the system relies on a really slick SSD implementation.

NEO is constrained by PS4 CPU no doubt which is unfortunately a big problem with trying to raise frame rates for NEO mode games. Resolution and certain IQ improvements can be implemented without CPU usage for the most part but the CPU needs to keep up with frame time.

It's pretty much inevitable that they'll lift the PS4 compatibility requirement a year or two down the road, though. Same story with MS.

Just judging by Andrew House's comments to date, I don't think they see rolling generations happening like this. They still seem to believe in the model of a fixed software generation, within which we might have a couple of hardware iterations.

That being the case, Neo won't be a PS4 that turns into a PS5, dropping the first PS4 out of the equation. It'll always just be a PS4. The next compatibility step will be the first PS5 model, whenever that comes, which will leave both the original PS4 and Neo behind.

All that said, I think Sony (and Microsoft) are still figuring out what might happen in the future, so maybe that could change. But right now it doesn't sound like it's on the cards, that the software cycle will hop along to straddle a window of hardware models at a given time. If they see Neo like that - as a PS4 iteration rather than a potential PS5 entry model - then I think it and the first PS4 will always play the same software.

Bold claims, that I completely disagree with by the way. Not when there are close to 50m OG PS4 owners. Even if that happens, most third parties won't even consider Neo exclusive software.

I figure that the reason for a Neo is because Sony probably felt that there weren't going to be any huge performance increases for a while.

So rather than let the generation just linger and fade for a sector of consumers (enthusiasts), they want to take advantage of a die shrink and perhaps give a bit longer life to different segments of their consumer base until PS5 is ready, which honestly may not be until 2020-2021 at the earliest.

You don't think it's because of PSVR or the upcoming release of the Scorpio?

By the time Sony is comfortable lifting the PS4 compatibility requirement--if that even happens--the PS5 will be right around the corner. At that point, as the developer, you might as well just wait for the PS5.

To showcase that Sony still MIGHT have some partnership with Rockstar.

Yeah, it seems obvious that Rockstar will partner with PS4 for marketing on their titles - its already happened with GTA V on PS4 and Red Dead 2 will probably be the same.

I expect GTA VI to be tied to Playstation in some way too - clear market leader combined with very strong relationship with Rockstar.
