I get that they're going for the understated PS3 slim style here, but... so boring. Especially next to the amazing redesign Microsoft did with Xbox One S. That one is actually something to display. This... you hide.

A bit of hyperbole. No one cares what your consoles at home look like except yourself. This isn't like a phone or watch or anything that you're walking around trying to win style points.

I do agree Xbox slim looks better though.

Looks really bad. The OG PS4 design hasn't aged well and this is a much worse looking version. It's even more worse when you consider what a great design Microsoft put out of their slim console. Gone are the days of Sony as are great hardware design company.

I bet it is using a shrink and cool APU in TSMC FinFET+ 16nm.

Even (some) GAFer saying to me it was too expensive to shrink the PS4's APU (bullshit of course).

Size is fabulous. It's pretty ugly though, I liked the edges on the OG. Those PS button feet are a nice touch though, almost saves it.

Question is if the value of my white PS4 is gonna nosedive due to this guy. I still need to work out my finances come NEO time.

That would go against Sony's mantra of considering 399$ the ideal launch price for new platforms.
Something that has also been proven by the PSVR 399$ price while the competition was at least 200$ more.
Also the PS4 was a much more advanced and expensive design to manufacture in 2013 compared to what Neo is in 2016 and it still launched at 399$.
They might go greedy but I really don't think they'll ask more than 399$ for Neo, they want to sell them.

It was the only point of entry for the platform though. Neo isn't the only flag bearer for the platform, so they may split along two more polarised vectors, an entry level for the masses and a premium for the hardcore. If Neo was replacing PS4, 399 would be important. But it's 'just' a high end alternate.

I'd love it to be 399 of course.

I really don't understand the #teamugly people I like it a lot. I am getting a Neo but like the simple matte design.

I just think people put way too much stock in looks. No one really gives a fuck especially with it being at an entry level price.

I mean the OG xbox1 looks like a damn big VCR. People bought it. The OG ps3 was not a looker. Looks mean absolutely shit when it comes to a gaming console imo.

To peeps complaining about the optical out, why not just use the one in your TV?

Also it might be on the side.

I sometimes use my PS4 in my computer room, and attach PS4 to my DAC (which feeds the speakers) via optical, and HDMI to monitor.

With the slim I'd have to buy a TV to my computer room if I wanted to play there.

Being the market share leader, they're doing it. "Oh you want wireless headsets? We have this product called The gold headset" "oh you want surround sound, use HDMI"

I'm fairly sure the mix amp for Astros do not work like that, my old ones don't and I'm sure the new ones don't either.
