Deus Ex: Mankind Divided I Review Thread I I asked for this

I don't understand how is it possible that consoles are getting midnight release and steam is not when you can set the date ahead of time, is not like someone has to be there to release the thing.

Does anyone have a little insight on why this works like this? It's very annoying.

Publisher just deciding to fuck select platform over, nothing more to it. They could do global PC release at 12AM CEST tonight if they wanted to, but they don't.

Edit: You can't kill progress, but apparently you can ignore it and fight against it...

That's odd. Cdkeys delivered my standard edition key about 27 hours ago. (Jpg of a scanned slip of paper with the steam key printed on it lol..) Did the preload yesterday afternoon.

This was the first time I had used them for a preorder. Guess it's a ymmv situation for whatever reason.

They send the standard edition keys yesterday and they were supposed to send Deluxe edition keys today, I called the support and they said to me that they are gonna give deluxe keys tomorrow... I'm super pissed actually...

This is probably the default setting for game unlocks on Steam. Of course it is absolutely possible to change it and to release the game at midnight on Steam. They just couldn't be bothered to change it to midnight. Thanks Square Enix for making us wait nearly an additional day.

Oh so you mean the API call that needs to be done (I presume) to change the release status of a game. So they could be bothered to change the date, they've just selected the date and left the rest by default.

I would like to know if I'm correct, turn on the JaseC-signal.

It's such a pity that publishers/companies in general can get away with small fuckups things like this and there's not a single thing you can do about it. No comment will be made.

The replies on twitter are mostly negative about this already, but yeah, they'll just take the negative comments because once it finally does unlock, everyone will forget and move on.

Why is PS4 unlock later than Xbox One?

Absolutely no reason for any of these times other than publisher decisions. Plenty of PS4 games unlock at midnight EST; it's all publisher choice. Really, really odd that the times are so different across platforms.

I am still salty that I have to wait until 3am EST to play the game on PS4. I preordered it on PS4 so that I'd get an hour in before bed and I would avoid having to go out to buy it. Next time I'll just buy the disk and will trade/sell it after I'm done with it.

Maybe MS paid them little more than Sony so MS gets few hours earlier access, while "PC" paid none so we get extra shaft!

Conspiracy time! Bring your own tinfoil!

lirik is gonna hate it even tho he is gonna say he likes it because of the sponsor deal

He is able to make difference between him liking or hating game and game being good or bad. Game he doesn't like can be still good game from design standpoint. In the past he has been quite frank about stuff like that.

Why are people so happy about streamers playing the game. They are promoting a product for a company. It's a marketing deal for them, either for extra views/popularity or money (or both).
But I'm also getting old and the whole 'let's watch a streamer play a game for hours' is beyond me.

The marketing has all been on PS4 so that would be very weird and unlikely. It's just Square being Square.

No, it's an extra 12 hours for people in the US.

Nope, it's a WW unlock time for steam.

It comes out in 26 hours world wide on steam. NA, EU, AUS, etc.

yeah sure, but at least you sleep, work at the time. EU gets an unlock at 6PM

Not sure what you mean. Is that not ideal? To come home from work, eat dinner and then the game unlocks? Sounds like a good time instead of being stuck at work for 5-8 more hours as the game unlocks in the states.

No Man's Sky did the same thing except it unlocked at 10AM PST.

What's the chance of them cracking and just deciding to push a button earlier for Steam? No, none? Yeah, I'm thinking that too :(

Pretty shitty Steam unlock time but I just don't expect anything else these days. What's so hard about setting up three or four time zones for release, I'll never understand.

It requires them fiddling around with options that Steam Store gives them. Who has time for that shit?

It's 9:30 PM IST. Not that bad for me IMO. Will finish dinner and play till Chelsea match.

Hopefully game unlock is not asinine like ROTR which took 30+ minutes and was still going on, and was consuming twice the HDD space. I got so pissed that I uninstalled the game and redownloaded it. It completed in 20 minutes.

Not everyone has download speeds to download games that are tens of GB's in ~20 minutes. For most going through preload and then decompression process saves hours of time that then can be spent playing. If games weren't compressed like they are people would complain about 50+ GB downloads.

Yeah, this is an old problem with how Steam does preloads that needs to be addressed.

Having looser compression algorithm would address issue, flip side is larger preload sizes.

looks like Games Republic sent out keys (with pre-order bonuses) and gave a 10% off voucher good for any game because of the delay. nice

Actually only preload unlock takes time. The game after release will require same download size but will install way faster. But I get your point regarding slow internet.
