You are worried about a cable sticking out but have no problem wearing a big ass bulky headset?
Because my understanding is that the VR box is connected all the time since the HDMI connection is routed through it. I guess if you can run the PS4 without the USB connected then I could live with plugging it in only when using VR, but a rear USB port would be an easy fix.

So they put a nice dust filter in it then. Anything to keep the damn thing quiet during gameplay.

Currently the best way to achieve a silent PS4 is to do this mod:

Probably not the best mod. Good for cooling the APU but the rest of the system does get any cooling as the air is not being drawn across from the external vents

What's happening in Manchester with all the machines popping up in the area?
Fuck knows. I think a van has probably been stolen as the 2 guys who want to sell them apparently have more to sell.
So where do we stand here? Real or fake?
Real.
First machine originated from Bolton purchaser from Manchester.
Apparently the guy wasn't even from Bolton. He actually lives in Manchester like the other guy who is selling on right now in Manchester.

He text me before wanting to sell me another and said he'd meet me in Manchester City Centre.

this is likely going on sale in 3 weeks max, so quite possibly they have begun arriving in warehouses. It doesnt have to be stolen
It's an unannounced product that's inexplicably popping up in Manchester... I don't see how can it be anything other than stolen. lol.

Don't risk it. Also why buy something for £300 when Game and CO will have it for £200 - £270 in a few weeks?

Nah I'm not risking it. I nearly got the money together before but I honestly cannot condone buying stolen goods. I'd rather wait and see what Sony has to say about Neo.

Am i the only person that doesn't really hate the design of the new slim? I obviously like the og ps4 better but if that design adds more airflow and prevents it from being obnoxiously loud when i am playing i am all for it.

UHD disc sales are already tracking way ahead of standard Blu-ray in the same time period.

Article is from June 27th 2016
http://variety.com/2016/digital/new...s-numbers-exceed-disc-predecessor-1201804322/

Blu-ray sales volume was trash initially and not difficult to surpass, not to mention had a competing standard eating into its potential sales (HD-DVD) and with a decent chunk of major titles on HD-DVD but not on Blu-ray (plus some studios like Criterion and Disney waiting for the format war to end before putting movies out); a better comparison would be to compare sales numbers of Blu-ray AND HD-DVD vs. UHD Blu-ray by itself. Also bear in mind you can get a 4K TV and 4K UHD player now together for less than either a 1080p HDMI TV set or Blu-ray player would have cost you in the first months of the format's existence, so the pool of buyers who can afford it at all is much larger. Discs will sell, and there'll be an uptick this holiday season, but the VAST majority of 4K UHD movies people end up with are going to be from pack-ins and the like, just like it was with Blu-ray. You'll have the odd collector getting his hands on physical media but odds are good they'll eventually get jaded about the whole media treadmill and just decide it makes more sense to drop $10 a month on Netflix plus buying the occasional Disney/Pixar movie for their kids (which will probably not be the 4K UHD version if it doesn't include a regular DVD because getting a version which works in the car's player/country house etc. is non-negotiable)

Wait, you got one?

Yeah but remember that at launch the PS4 was taking a very minor loss that was made up for in PS+, games, or accessories. That was what Sony was thinking with the PS4 originally and the point of the slim is to get it in more people's homes so they make more off of subscriptions and software.

I understand what you're saying, but they'd be pricing the console to take advantage of those revenue streams regardless.

My point is simply that let's say they're going to sell 2M Slims at $299, and 4M Slims (a very generous doubling of sales) at $249. They're going to make and extra $20M per year on PS+ based on the $10 increase for those extra two million consoles, but in order to do so they're going to lose $100M at retail by giving that discount to the two million people who would have bought the console at the higher price.

Again, I understand that you POV is "hey, but they just need to sell each of those two million people two full-priced games over the life of the console and then it's all evened out even with just one year of the extra $10 of PS+." But again, if the economics actually work out that way then they should be pricing at $249 regardless of the extra $10 per year of PS+.

I'm wagering that they'll ride out $299 this holiday season, and then drop to $249 at E3 next spring. It's likely that this pricing approach will maximize profitability over the course of the next 18 months.

So the new controller now has an extra lightbar? Nice.

"We heard your complaints about the light bar and its affect on battery performance. So we've added another one to the track pad. Now everyone is happy."

Probably been posted but to save time:

Oh, that's neat. Thanks for re-posting.

If all these machines are stolen cant Sony remotely 'fry' them if they connect to the internet.

They must have the serials...

They can block access to PSN, but I doubt Sony has built a "kill switch" mechanism into PS4s. They really have no reason to do that. If they are in fact stolen, and they are logging into PSN with these machines, I'm sure they can find the IP address which they can then try to request info on the subscriber from the ISP (dunno what the legal process for this kind of information sharing is around the world), to try and get to the source of whoever stole it.

phew, that is one ugly console. How can they come out with something like that after the One S and not be embarrassed.

Probably because at some point you just decide function > form and you have such an absurd lead over your competitor that the way the cheaper, slim version of your console looks isn't really going to affect sales.

XBO S is marketed as an improved XBO with 4K UHD playback support. Slim will more than likely just be the new, cheaper PS4 with the Neo basking in the limelight. Best to hold out judgement on Sony's designs until we see the Neo.

Eurogamer has now removed the video they posted "upon taking legal advice".

What the hell can that mean?

So because they are leading they can't have a beautiful product?
Pffffttt.

Because there are people who would swear by their Original Xbox One that it looks better than OG PS4, and yet ------------- (fill in the blank).

For people into electronics design, OG PS4 is a masterclass in design. It really shows the engineering brilliance of Sony.

Edit: classic example right above me.

At least one of the sellers posted pictures from his house, and sold it from his house -

I'm not a master criminal but surely you would do this from a car park or McD's if it's blatantly snide goods?

I really hope that thing is a notification light. Also why does this need a new controller? Bizarre.

Anyway reminds me how ugly (if functional) the PS4 controller can look. Seriously how do they make the nicest looking console for a while (and such a good size!) and then make something so ugly I have no idea. They clearly would have wanted to reduce the bottom side but couldn't in which case they should have dumped the split idea altogether.

Xbox One S is so appealing physically and looks premium.

I'm reasonably sure Sonys "slim" systems have never offered addition features to make it anything more than smaller than the standard version of a console. Thinking it has upgrade features is just silly.

This move occurs when smaller mm chipsets and parts at lower cost are readily available to mass produce systems instead of higher cost larger boards. This saves the company money. They CAN pass the savings on to the customer to increase sales on the system.
