PS4 Slim Unboxing Video

I knew it was an ugly enough revision to be real. That USB placement is driving my OCD crazy. Why are they so far apart!?

Hopefully this means a cheaper console and more PS4 sales though. Which in turn should mean more support and games.

[After watching full video] No optical audio!? Boo!

Edit: I'm a fan of nothing being glossy anymore; eg near controller buttons, top of console. Also glad the light strip on the console is gone. Made it a pretty annoying media player glowing under the tv.

PlayStation is following Apples footsteps too close, their letting people reveal there unannounced products before they do

On the XB1 pad I find it to be much less of an annoyance because of it's positioning on the face of the controller as apposed to the top of it, and small size of it. The big ol' lightbar on the dualshock can get a bit annoying when using it in darkened conditions, having the light shine on walls and shit. Having the lightbar extended even further over the controller for this new controller isn't a positive for me in that respect.

True. My post was more targeted to those in the other thread who were saying crap like "hur dur I don't like da light bar y u put more lite on da thing sorny," etc without really considering that the Xbox controller has had lights on the front for over 10 years.

I think it looks much sleeker than the PS3 slim.

I don't think its feasably possible to sell this at $199. They would be selling at a loss likely at that price. I think $249 is the absolute cheapest possible, and personally am expecting $299

I think it's $199 or $249

Sony has PS+ , PS Vue , PS Now & so on so this little cheap box is perfect for Trojan Horsing these services into more homes while also selling games & keeping people in the PS ecosystem.

I think the likely hood of this revision being $199 is borderline impossible.

You have to remember that the OG PS4 is retailing for $349 currently. $299 is likely for the Slim. $249 is lowest case scenario but still extremely unlikely. A $150 price difference between the current OG and Slim? In the span of a few weeks?

No way.

Am I the only one who prefer this slim design than OG? especially when it stand with PS logo facing here looks really damn cool.

I don't think Apple's model is as exciting for consoles cause the damn things just get leaked before the announcement. Sure apple products do as well, but we hardy see fully functioning retail models before announcements.

Console looks good though, and the best part of that controller is losing the gloss around the buttons.

Some one should reup the video somewhere more unscrupulous, Sonys going to be on this fast.

I'm still not a fan of the redesign, Its not outright terrible though. I guess the OG PS4 is just a lot better in my opinion. Hopefully they keeps Neo edgy.

Threading is definitely for the stand. Hopefully they've leard from the last screw in stand. PS4 stand made more sense.

pretty neutral about the look. don't think its fugly or beautiful. its not bad.

the ease of removing the HDD great. loss of optical sucks. then again i wouldn't buy this anyways as my ps4 is already fine and neo of course.

people going bonkers over the lightbar are silly. no the led is not going to blind you...smh

I think it lack of something that make it "pop".
Maybe the should use blue color for the inner stripe like this.

Which is why I think slim will look better in different color. Because that inner black stripe make will be more contrast with white or any other color.

They just increased the price of PS+ lol. This is a company that want to profit on everything.

I just ordered that one from Amazon, getting it tomorrow. Just a backup in case Neo doesn't have optical, but I will also use it with Wii U.
Hopefully it doesn't degrade audio quality using HDMI -> optical conversion (I'm sure the analog one will, but don't care about that).

lmao

I really like the look of the OG PS4 (the light strip is awesome and I love how it pulses + the one shiny panel to differentiate), but I think I'd be ok with the new slim PS4 if I was just now picking up a PS4 since it's a little smaller and seems even more understated than the OG model.

I guess the OG looks a litte bit more high-tech/futuristic than the slim.

Also, if I ever get one of those new controllers, I'm probably gonna have to put some black tape over that new light bar above the touchpad. Don't need any seizures while I'm playing with the lights off.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that no optical audio out SUCKS. I know HDMI is the audio standard these days but a lot of people are still rocking pretty nice amps with optical inputs. And being able to run audio through both HDMI and optical on both the PS3 and PS4 was really convenient.

I wonder if the optical out will make it into the Neo design or if Sony's completely scrapping optical from here on out.

Aren't apple products gets released first on apple stores? Not sure but if it is then it is a much controlled environment than huge retailers.

I like it. Reminds me a lot of the PS3 slim, matte basic plastic exterior, physical buttons, no "extra". i.e a cheaper to produce version later in a consoles lifespan to get it out in a larger market.

$229 is what i'm expecting.

No optical out is a deal breaker on the Slim; Between headsets & my Logitech Z-5500's, that optical out is crucial. Hope the Neo has an optical out still

Beautiful machine, so simple and clean as it is supposed to be, since it will be marketed as an affordable model.

Hopefully Eurogamer breakdown tells us what we need to know about the noise, though for my part I'm going for the NEO of course.

Still looks like ass.

Just announce the thing Sony, no reason to wait two weeks when people already have it.

No optical support? What is this, the Wii U?

Seriously, why not? The neo will no doubt have it. Because it's for the "hardcore"/enthusiast.

If you are really a enthusiast you shouldn't continue using optical for audio.

And I'm using it, there are solutions like HDMI to optical.

Original looks better but this slim ain't too bad either. It looks cheap because it is cheaper :D

249€ should be fine.

Will wait for Neo and hope for a slightly more premium looks.

Wonder how much this will cost. I expect Neo to take the $400 slot and this to be $300

I think you're right on this, but I think it's a mistake since now when compared to the Xbox One S, the PS4 S looks inferior. Sure the PS4 can play games better, but when the Neo is out, nobody will be looking at that comparison since if they want the better gaming experience they will just opt for the Neo.

So now they will be looking at other facets of the boxes, hdmi pass through, optical out, 4k bluray and hdr now make the Xbox One S look like the better value proposition.. I think Sony is going to need the $50 price advantage in this tier in order to remain competitive.

It truly is amazing how Microsoft was able to flip the script on Sony.. we will just see if it is enough to give Microsoft the edge in their major territories.

So I guess Sony are going for a "and it's out now" announcement for the PS4 slim at their 7th September event. There was no way they could keep this quiet if they are filling the supply channels ready for its release somebody was always going to spill the beans somewhere along the line.

Seems all the leaked devices are the middle east version cuz it has an Arabic manual, anyway, I'm pissed off cuz the Options and Share buttons are still the same, maybe a subtle change I can't tell but mostly they're the same :(

If I had to venture a guess, I'm guessing these slim models will be out to stores within a couple weeks of the Sept 7 announcement (perhaps early October at the latest), so it would make sense that manufacturing slims has already started to ramp up and someone found a way to get a hold of one of them.

I'd still be surprised if Neo doesn't come out this year. Seems odd to formally unveil that product in September and not have it available for the holidays. But if that is a mid-late November release it probably makes sense that manufacturing hasn't gone into full gear yet and isn't as readily accessible as a Slim model that probably will be out a bit sooner.
