Yea this online is fucking terrible holy shit lol. I can get lagless matches in injustice of all things mainly things to google fiber but this is just beyond awful.

Hrm...want to unlock endings but it takes so long to go through story mode to witness them. Wish they went with 4-5 teams to push through instead of 8 + 2 bosses. With three fighters to take down each match it just feels real bloated. just felt I spent an hour playing to see one ending.

I'm on my 3rd playthrough and almost fell asleep... lol

And the ending doesn't have voice acting

the netcode reports making me sad...yeah not gonna buy this at launch. sorry snk. this is like your third chance with this series to get some decent netcode running... (not counting all the re-releases)

Did you play SFV? Daimon's trials are irritating me. Canceling into HCB, F + PP from H is so damn tricky when I'm in the middle of a combo.
that one actually took me a minute until i turned inputs on and saw that i wasn't hitting back in HCBF when trying to do it quickly. then i got it next try. just clean up your inputs and try doing it on the other side if that helps.

None that I know of, but in the backstory Joe references people's online reactions to his 2003 and XIII endings and comments on how the net can be terrifying.

Thanks for the quote. Looks like the general kind of blunt rudeness he applied when he demanded Antonov invite him to the tournament, and doing that (hidden) face to face with a guy of Antonov's size takes the kind of guts I wouldn't expect from most internet assholes.

In other news, Leona's jump in's feel SO much better than normal, and I love the range on her far A and B. I can Heidern-style crossup with C hop pressure, and this has always been on my list of desires. V Slashers loss of invuln is a hard habit to break, bit it's not nearly as bad when they made her own personal footsie options so much better.

With C X-Calibur actually working at mid screen when combo'd into, I get a lot better options as to how to hit my opponent after the Strike Arch into special. It's part of her XIII corner game, but now everyone.

Also, Slash Saber DM has upper body projectile invulnerability, so instead jumping into fireballs with V slasher now, I can just DM through them on the ground. A fair tool to have for the girl with the worse fireball bakudan startup in gaming, hehe.

Nah, it was fine at launch. I got the Japanese version of it, that came out before the U.S. release, and was able to get decent matches.

The majority of SNK's console games have had pretty poor netcode going back like a decade already.

I don't know why we should give SNK the benefit of the doubt.

Xrd was fine at launch and got better with a patch.

You still get some generic scenes, but nothing character specific between boss matches or for the ending.

Whatever, people can be hopeful that SNK will turn this around even though zero of their games have. /shrug At least I can play with a few friends.

Didn't get to try the netplay much yesterday because my family kept hogging the net with streaming. Figured I’d try a couple of characters in training and head to story mode... ended up in practice mode for 5 hours straight lol. Going by impressions it’s probably not worth trying online anyway until there are some patches.

Zarina is probably my fave Capo fighter ever, an excellent successor to Bob. Her animation is so good and I like how they thought outside of the usual 2.5D box with it (look at her neutral hop animation). Her moves flow really well together and she has great hit confirms, even from lows.

Ryo is a snore, they took away what made him fun in XIII and didn’t give him anything in return.

Love Heart is a beast, the new XIII Ryo. The sword slashes into super are so damn good, excellent damage even if cancelled into a regular super. Both her far standing HP and cr. HP are special cancellable which makes those slashes into super a huge threat. She shaves of big chunks of health with minimal effort. Pressing back+LK for her command normal feels funky though.

Terry feels really solid and benefits heavily from the cheap supercancel costs. The hard version of Power Charge is a launcher and lets him juggle but doesn’t combo from normals. The light version combos and leaves him positive on hit (he can link an LK after it for example). Unlike XIII he can cancel his f+A into a super now in combos.

Angel transitioned well into 3D both in terms of looks and gameplay, people will be in for a world of hurt against a competent Angel player.

Alice is so fun and easy to learn. Like a spear user from the Souls game though, you really don’t want to whiff special moves with her, them whiff animations.

I really like how distinct Kim, Gang-Il and Luong feel despite being cut from the same dough. Gang-Il has some really interesting stuff going on and is even able to jump cancel the ender of one of his special moves. They made him focus more on kick combination and barrage moves compared to Kim. He also looks better than I expected in person, feels like a nice classic design. His damage feels on the low side so far though.

Ralf feels very ‘complete’. A lot of tools, a lot of potential and good damage. In comparison Clark feels kinda, meh? Probably just because he’s different but so far the loss of a command normal hit confirm and turn punch nerfs make him feel weaker. Having a command overhead to quick max from should be pretty useful though and he also received the buff of being able to cancel his close standing HP into supers after the 2nd hit.

She could do that in XIII too, used it all the time. Don’t know if it’s the same in XIV but in XIII it seemed to be upper body invincible on the 1st frame, or somewhere close to that. So if King did a normal into a light fireball (a non-true block string) then you could blow it up with this super, she would go right under the fireball.

As for the mysterious fine print on the Yuri Sakazaki drink, it turns out that the waitress (probably dressed as Yuri) will slap the customer according to their request: asking for the normal throw version comes with just a single slap while the command throw version will come with multiple hits. We're just waiting for someone to post up a video or two of that.

Played for 10 minutes before I actually give it time tonight. Felt great! Tried out Geese, Terry, Maxima, and Kyo. I might have to use Kyo because of his alt skin. The only thing that will take me time to get used to, like it did in KOF13, is the short hop.

PSN is stnhdr if anyone ever wants to play. Just know that I'm a SNK novice.

Looks like online is a blowup. No way I'm dropping money on this unless that gets fixed. I really don't trust SNK when it comes to netplay.

Maxima is mostly the same but there are some differences:

- EX Vapor super doesn't seem as fast and as invincible as in XIII but the opponent doesn't fall out of it anymore after the first hit connects. In XIII if the way you connected was off then the final portion could miss. In XIV it looks like it goes into a 'canned' animation after the first hit.
- You can still super-cancel his command grab but you have to do it after the first hit (when he slams the opponent to the wall) and not after the follow up like in XIII.
- His damage is still great and it doesn't look like he will need quick max to dish out the pain.
-Stringing his EX moves doesn't seem to do all that much damage, the moves are probably more useful when used raw.
- His Climax DM looks like it would have short range but it actually goes full screen, I was using a red color Maxima and the start up made him look like a crab going in lol.
- The new laser super should be very useful, finally gives him a good long range option.
- His movement and jumps feel faster than in XIII, normals too.

If you played him in XIII then you should feel right at home for the most part, just need to make a few adjustments.

Someone on reddit posted that party play has better netcode than random versus.

I read the same thing on my local FGC Facebook group, so I hope this is the case.

People on SRK are saying this too, that the good netcode we wanted is in party battle. Anyone here try it?

From the sound of things decent netcode might be in there somewhere but they need to patch the game to make it more consistent.

I played maybe an hour of matches with a friend of mine who lives a state away and we had no problems (MD to VA). Which is great considering i couldn't' play 13 online at all. There's definitely something strange going on but the netcode CAN work well. The percentage of the time it works is what is really suspect.

Finally got the game downloaded and installed, for some reason I thought if I pre-ordered it and left my PS4 on it'd start downloading automatically but nope, had to do it manually when I got home and it never finished before I got tired and went to sleep.

I wanna play through a round of Story mode first to get my bearings, what's the best team for a beginner to get a good feel? Probably South Town or Art of Fighting since they're pretty basic characters, right?

What kind of grapplers do you like?

Ones that are slow and pure grapplers or ones that have moves other than grabs? If you want speedy grapplers then KOF has those too.

Definitely. Any of those two teams should be good for beginners!

So between all these differing bars in online and that Party Mode is supposedly much better, I get the stinking feeling there's some bug in the netcode. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Modern day SNK has said they find online to be very important, so I don't feel it's right to write them off just yet. That said, I fully understand where people are coming from.

I'm not much of an online warrior, myself. But I'm gonna hope for the best that this gets resolved!
 
What's the timing to Climax Cancel Vice's super supposed to be? I'm inputting the double HCF+PP at the same time as her trial 5 demo but the move just refuses to come out.
