The King of Fighters XIV |OT| ¡VIVA REY DE DINOSAURIOS!

What's the timing to Climax Cancel Vice's super supposed to be? I'm inputting the double HCF+PP at the same time as her trial 5 demo but the move just refuses to come out.

Time the buttons for when she lands on her feet, after the 4th slam.

Input the double half circles in the same direction as the original super. That is, if you did the EX grab super as two half circles to the right, then the climax will also be two half circles to the right.

What are everyones teams looking like so far? I still haven't made up my mind on who I want to stick with yet. I'll probably need a couple more days of messing with characters but I'm really liking Geese and will probably shoehorn him in no matter what.

Thanks, dawg!

And, uh, while you're here, would you happen to know of any good pressure strings for Alice? I've been relying on 2B > 2A > light rekka way too much...

Hein is, like, one of my favorite characters ever. He's my favorite anime trope. lol.

So going to mess around with: Hein, Angel, Kukri, Geese, Bandeiras, Mai, and Nak.

I'll go through some more trials to see if anybody speaks to me, but I think that's a solid starting point.

Try stuff like this:

2B, 2B, hop in
2B, hop in
2B, close C or close D (one of these is probably a legit frame trap)
2B 2A, run forward, throw
2B 2A, run forward, low
2B 2A 2D
2B 2B 2B full jump

Be creative. They can't counter all of these things.

Stuff like this applies to every character, by the way.

Party mode with 6 people each playing 1 character. Even West coast to East Coast feels great!

It's funny that they might have nailed the one feature everyone expected to be the most broken.

I'm trying to stay clear of the returning characters at least initially (though playing Terry and Maxima again is super tempting, so is Kim) so out of the new characters that I tried yesterday the biggest highlight was Zarina and I'm definitely thinking of putting her on my day 1 team.

Will be spending more time in practice mode today to decide the others. Kukri, Mian, Luong, Alice and many others are looking damn fun.

This is VERY good for me. This mode was hell to do offline with my friends because of different controllers and button configs.

I can't wait for it !

I need some Ramon combos, loving the game.

I call this one the "El Rosa Rodeo:"

j.C > 5C > 3B > MAX Cancel > 5C > 3B > EX Sobat > B Sobat and 2 followups > 2141236 BD > 22 AD (you have to slide your finger from A to D I think)

If they block the initial j.C > 5C, follow up with 6A instead of 3B for a frame trap. If it hits, do the 22A followup into any super of your choice.

I think I'm going with Kyo/Geese/Athena. I tend to go for either characters that have safe moves and good footsies, or characters with one-dimensional gameplans. I juggle too many fighting games to have the time to learn any complex characters. At any given time I could be playing KOF 14, MKX, USF4, SF5, KI, and even SFxT.

Thanks! Now I gotta practice those!

Using pad on this game is hard sometimes, anyone else having problems with some of the super motions?

Mui Mui / Undecided Second / Ramon

Ramon makes a great anchor because I can shit out shenanigans at the speed of light. Haven't decided what my second character will be, it might be Hein or Terry.
Would they even make a good second?

Don't know how my teams going to be .
I normally have 2 or 3 of them .
Only characters i know i playing for certain are Yuri , Kyo and Athena ( she not as good as before )

I love this game. Its magical.

I think my team is getting mostly decided right now.

Leona / Love Heart / Geese

However there are so many characters. So much more to play with. I love my options. This is how you release a fighter.

Two more people RQ on me :<

I honestly don't understand why people are so obsessed with winning that they feel like they have to actively spoil everyone else's experience. It makes me not wanna play online ever.

Terry and Mai are my go-to characters in every KoF. Last spot is tentative. In past games it was Yuri or Athena but I'm really liking Love Heart this time around

So we only have 4 colors only for characters?

What are the odds this is because of the "swipe" effect a lot of moves have (especially noticeable with Kim and Luong and such). Seems like those effects might have to be colored individually and aren't actually distorting the limbs they're following.

Would also explain why there's no color edit in this game.

Aaaaaand there's another RQ. Between that and the game constantly matching me with players who have 30+ winstreaks, I think I'm done with online matchmaking until things settle down a bit.

Imo it's because people were doing nude looking color edits in XIII.

I'm glad in the sense that I won't have to see people's horrible coloring/trolling skills anymore.

The game does have edit team ending art.

Kula, Athena, and Nakouru: https://twitter.com/PRIPARA_PLAYER/status/768215001056309248

That one was unexpected lol.

Kukuri and Luong were surprisingly fun to play as last night. I am liking the new characters a lot more than I thought I would.

I like Hein as well. Great character. Really liking Kukri and Bandeiras as well. SNK did a great job on the new playable characters.

Seems like a pretty solid lineup can't really go wrong with those characters IMO. Hopefully none of the characters get hit too hard with any nerfs.

So uh

Why can Nakoruru's bird projectile beat out Raging Storm on startup?

This character seems all kinds of goofy what with her 100% safe specials and godlike buttons.

Really enjoying just how fucking stupid both Sylvie Paula Paula and Xanadu are. God tier stupidity, I love it.

So far I'm liking Luong, Geese, Vice, and Zarina the most. Still playing around with the cast though.

Luong's MAX combos are dope. Can do cl.D, f+B (I think that's it?), MAX cl.D, f+B xx hcbB, hcbBD j.qcbBD land qcfA into stuff. Super cool and you can mix things up a lot.

Is there any way to punish it that doesn't require either a bar or a projectile? Cuz with how much most Nakorurus spam the slide, just punishing it once won't be enough :/
If the slide wiffs, that's a big punish right there. You can only rebound if it hits. Try neutral short hops to through them off

OMG Terry is actually good in this ! I heard bad things about Joe though :(

SNK devs are really the best at making stages...

Yeah, when I watched this I figured the guard cancel roll was the option to land a full damage combo. I guess she can mix things up by not doing the rebound, decisions, decisions lol...

You can just opt to roll if she decides to rebound. If she doesn't do anything and tries to "mix it up" by just sliding in front of your face then you wreck her.

Big ass punishes.

Kukri
Ramon
Ban

What order should I be placing this team in? Any tips for people who main these boys? Geese is far out of my reach right now for me to use him, sadly :(

I definitely really enjoy using Ramon as my anchor. Five (possible) bars that you can immediately burn from an overhead/crossup knockdown pickup makes him hilarious.
El Rosa's run with anchor Ramon at Evo is also a good watch.

Could someone explain to me the anchor thing on this game?
I think that I suck on bar management, when is a good time to save or do I have to switch up my team?
So far I use King since she is "easy for me" and she kind of clicked to a little bit of my playstyle.
Ramon because it's awesome and after R.Mika I like this kind of grapplers (Except Ramon is a lot more hype).

I still don't know who should I choose as a third. Any tips?

I'm new to the series myself too, but from what I've gathered, the anchor or the third member in your team should be someone who can more easily convert meter into big damage since the third character can have upto 5 bars to work with as well as a longer MAX mode duration.

EDIT: I agree with what Badwolf says though, right now just focus on learning the characters.

People often put their best character on anchor, one who they think they can hold the fort with. It's usually good to have a character that is good at dishing out damage and using meter.

For now just learn the game and characters and have fun, don't worry about team positioning too much. Once you get comfortable with your characters you'll have an easier time deciding how to position them and when to switch things up based on your opponent.
