Hillary: Trump embraces the alt-right, a fringe racist element. Enough is enough

As Sec. Clinton herself says in the speech, Trump's nationalism is consistent with what's going on in Greece, the United Kingdom, Russia, France, Poland, Austria, and Turkey -- and, oh, India, the Philippines, and Japan, too.

So, Europe, you wanted a United States that looks more like your continent? You got it now.

But, you see, there's actually one big difference between the United States and Europe.

In the UK, in Poland, in Russia, in Turkey, and in Austria, the racist nationalists win.
In the United States? Trump's going to lose.

Europe isn't a monolithic block though. For example, due to the way the French presidential elections are set up it'd be hard for a extreme right candidate to be elected. Just take a look at how Le Pen was absolutely crushed against Chirac in the second round. Since there's no party loyalty to the levels seen in the US, everyone basically went "oh hell no".

In the US you'll get fucking 40% of the vote just for showing up as a Republican.

There are tons of issues on both sides of the Atlantic (France has some big issues with racism, especially against Arabs), but saying this:

So, Europe, you wanted a United States that looks more like your continent? You got it now.

Is disingenuous. The US didn't pick that up from Europe, racism and xenophobia have been longstanding issues on both sides.

Great speech. Her best yet since her June one on Trump's foreign policy. Using Trump's own words is her best offense.

She's trying to court Republicans who refuse to vote for Donald Trump.

The main play is to push many to stay at home. She can't say that of course. But that is the natural effect.

Republic turnout should be low if there is a rejection of Trump. The options for any fair minded Republican is to vote in protest or stay home. But then again they Hillary so...

I want the polls to stay as wide as they have been, so that Republicans feel they will be defeated and stay home in despair. That's more likely a scenario than a Republican voter that will vote for Hillary to stop Trump.

That speech was something else.
It would have boring if it was just fire hurled at Trump but there's a message for her candidacy with it.
It's really well made and welcome change to the diarrhea from her opponent.

You mentioned France without also pointing out that Le Pen's likely opponent in the second round of the next presidential election (former president Sarkozy) just aped some distinctly anti-migrant positions specifically to try and ward her off?

Actually Sarkozy is the only chance the Left has to win next year.
Literally anyone else will cream Hollande (or anyone they put in his stead).
Sarkozy is basically Voldemort of the French politic.
This racist dbag aped Lepen since 2004 at least, this is nothing new from him.
what's actually new is him trying to ape Donald Trump.
Even fucking Lepen wouldn't be worse than height disavantaged mental moron.

Is disingenuous. The US didn't pick that up from Europe, racism and xenophobia have been longstanding issues on both sides.

And where do you think they picked that up in the 1rst place?
Europe circa XVIth century to XIXth century wasn't a bunch of tolerant places at all.

was listening to this on the drive home, she really went after him, stopped my car in Larry's giant subs to listen to the rest, before ordering. I liked when she call out McCain on defending Obama, and those are the republicans we need or something like that, and Not Trump. Well done Hillary. I voted for McCain, but I'm gladly voting for Hillary this time.

I couldn't watch this live but reading the fallout and bits of the transcript has me pleased. Fuck Trump and everything he stands for!

I'm totally fine with Hillary throwing the GOP a life raft to separate themselves from the alt right.

America needs a responsible conservative party, not one that's willing to shut down the government, brush up against the debt limit and openly conspires to impeach the president if they think it'll score them cheap political points. Yes, it's all a game to some extent, but at the end of the day you need adults in Congress who are willing to come to the table and pass legislation.

Even ignoring liberal pipe dreams, let's look at some of the crises that have sprung up over the past few years. Obamacare has had technical glitches and would run much more smoothly if these were addressed, and we're now seeing pharmaceutical companies hike prices by exorbitant amounts for no reason other than to line their pockets. The McCain-Feingold Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act and Voting Rights Act were significantly gutted and need to be dealt with. Climate change is still a creeping problem. No one knows what to do with the 11 million illegal immigrants. Student loan debt is crippling a generation. Our transportation system sucks. City waters are poisoned, half of Louisiana is underwater right now, mass shootings continue topping themselves. There are judicial vacancies up and down the courts, including an empty Supreme Court seat for like seven months. They SHOT a GORILLA.

Any reasonable, responsible Congress should have been able to deal with these things. The current GOP hasn't shown any interest in doing that because they want to rob Obama of any sort of legacy, something they've failed to do anyway. And the worst part is, there are a lot of Republicans in the establishment who would like to take care of some of this! the problem are the true believers who align themselves with the alt-right, which the establishment nurtured for votes until they spiraled out of control and gave them Trump.

If not the GOP, then some new party will rise from their ashes. Their choice.
Mainstream GOP is the party that invaded Iraq, destroyed the economy, continues to enforce policies EXTREMELY harmful to lgbtq and women, and tried to block Obama on every good policy he put forward. The AltRight/Trump have done nothing in comparison to the harms of mainstream conservatism. This was a stupid speech and an unnecessary pivot to appease people who will not help her once she is in office. America doesnt need a conservative party and she should be hanging trump on them

Damn, it's really refreshing to see someone go fucking in like that. No disingenuity either, just cold facts.

Techincally the racist naionalist have not won in Austria yet, but no one is sure if they will win the re-run of that election

I think Holland will probably win against Le Pen if he faced her once people voted in ballot boxes. Pretty much anyone will crush Le Pen besides Holland.

Anybody who posts in Poligaf knows I'm not a fan of Hillary Clinton, but you're overreacting.

She's as corrupt and warlike as any US president since Carter. Remember that Obama was also a friend to Wall Street and Bill Clinton eviscerated welfare.

About Obamacare, I just read part of the reason is hurting is because by law Congress is supposed to reimburse insurance companies a certain amount and they've only paid 12% of what they should. Like WTF.

Hanging Trump on the conservative party will not kill the conservative party. A conservative party will always exist because a good portion of our population holds conservatives values. Thinking otherwise is just a fantasy.

If Hilary wants to get something done during her presidency she will need Republicans to be less obstructionist than they have been under Obama. Trump has revealed fractures within the Republican party and its base that actually make this more likely - specifically that a good portion of the Republican base actually favors populist economic policies instead of free-market capitalism.

To co-opt or hold off future nativist populists, the Republican party is going to have to make some changes. This is where throwing Republicans a lifeline makes a lot of sense. People are more likely to work with you if you give them a way out of shitty situation instead of shit on their indentity and dignity.

And, in the end, that is what is important. Getting things done is more important than making yourself feel good by really laying into someone. Will it work? Who knows, but the benefits outweigh the alternative.

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/08/clinton-paul-ryan-poverty-plan-227207

That article is a good indication of what a first step might look like in a Clinton presidency. Paul Ryan - basically an economic libertarian - is receptive towards a bill that fights poverty with money. He and the Republican party are receptive because they now realize that their base doesnt give two shits about economic libertarianism. They voted Republican because of conservative social values and white identity politics. That has them scared. Why make it harder to get things done by shitting on them?

Moreover, you are also shitting on people who identify themselves as Republican. Give them an out so they can tell themselves that the Republican party abandoned them. They didn't abandon the Republican party. If you say the Republican party was always shit, then that has a lot less of a chance of happening.

Also, Republicans didn't tank the economy.

Well yeah, all the white people in the US had to come from Europe at some point. But saying "you wanted the US to me more like your continent?" implies that the US wasn't like that at some point. It's always been like that since its inception, and Europe's also always had similar issues.

Are the debates officially being moderated by Jerry Springer? It really feels like we're going in that direction.

That will be the second debate. After the first debate he'll refuse to participate in another due to being treated unfairly. He'll demand an unbiased host that is not establishment and a loud and rambunctious crowd because that is the environment he performs best in.

Is disingenuous. The US didn't pick that up from Europe, racism and xenophobia have been longstanding issues on both sides.
And we recognize that. The problem is the deluge of arrogant, condescending "us over here in Europe" style posts that pretend racism and xenophobia aren't currently huge issues there as well.

That was a damn good speech. Really glad she laid it all out there like that. The facts really spoke for themselves.

I haven't watched cable news in forever, but I imagine they don't do a ton of calling out the alt-right and places like Breitbart and all of the gross views and associations they have.

oh ffs no they aren't the same

please don't

They are not the same. I'm tired of hearing this. Hillary is better in every way than Donald ever will be. Period.

Anybody who posts in Poligaf knows I'm not a fan of Hillary Clinton, but you're overreacting.

oh do tell

I feel sorry for this post

oh please european friend, tell us how you feel sorry for us poor americans

Yes she's fucking better, you ignorant twat.

Please, tell us silly Americans why you feel so sorry for us?

At this point, posts like these don't even deserve a response.

Not today Satan.
