Vampyr - First Gameplay Trailer (PS4)

Vampyr awakens 15min of gameplay from the crypt

The past week’s Gamescom 2016 has been the perfect opportunity for journalists to discover Vampyr, the Action-RPG from DontNod, the creators of Life is Strange. The press had the chance to attend presentations made by the developers, and thus learn more about the game, its story and its gameplay mechanics.
We’re extending that invitation to those of you at home in the form of a 15 minute gameplay video of our pre-alpha version, showcasing some of the ideas that make Vampyr a unique gameplay experience, where the narrative is directly tied to the gameplay. Without any spoilers, our presentation begins a little after the beginning of the game. Now aware of being a vampire, our protagonist Dr Jonathan Reid must come to terms with what he has become, meeting some of the characters you will interact with along your journey – some of whom are aware of what you are, and also share the same affliction.

This video is taken from a pre-alpha version of the game, and while many aspects are still very early in their development process – notably the combat system – you’ll get to see many of the gameplay ideas currently being worked on.

Investigate the people of London, and peer through their bodies to see the quality of blood that flows through them. Perhaps you find a terrible person who you believe deserves to die, and decide to feed on him. But what if he suffers from poor quality blood? Perhaps a father – with no reason to lose his life – has the purest blood, and will therefore gain you greater experience points… your moral choices will directly affect the game world as you struggle to come to terms with your human/vampire duality.

Taking lives in London is not easy. Killing too many in a district may cause its infrastructure to collapse and turn into disarray. Every single life will also have a butterfly effect on the other NPCs surrounding them. Every life you take away will have consequences for the city and the people around them: Cursed be the choice!

Vampyr comes out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017.

Looks good.

Edited to include it being a multiplatform release.

I've been wanting a good vampire game for a long time. But all it does is make me want a Bloodline sequel. If this reviews well i'll be getting it straight away. The only issue I had was the combat being clunky, but if I can live with Bloodlines I can manage clunky combat.

Also this seems very familiar. Is it a similar walkthrough to the E3 one?

I saw this at gamescom and had a chance to speak with a dev - it looks way more interesting than I expected. It may actually turn out as a good vampire game... something that we haven't seen in a while

After LiS, they have my attention. Looks like they're trying to make something more flexible than the "choose your own adventure" template. It's a bold move (they could've easily made another adventure game), let's see if they call pull it off.

edit: PS4 only? I thought it was multiplatform?

the description is from the PlayStation YT channel. It's PS4/XBO/PC

Now it definitely has my attention. Anyone know if there's a higher quality of this somewhere?

Glad it's coming to PC, frames were a bit too choppy for my taste. Combat also seems a bit stiff.

the game looks really dark, it's hard to even see where I'm going. but looks like it's still early. looks interesting so far. combat seems a bit clunky, hopefully they can tightened it up a bit.

also, I'm not sure what's wrong with the camera, but it give me a bit of motion sickness watching that video

It looks great for sure but that's too many cutscenes in 15 minutes (I skipped parts of the video though). The subtitles are way too small too.

That was neat. I really liked that he has to be invited into someone's home before he can enter, that was a cool touch.

I don't understand the misspelling; is it avoid a copyright? Then choose a different name. Unless this is like Bloodborne which turned out to be an old word.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm hoping there will be more of these kind of Vampire traits.

It's not a misspelling. There's actually an old German movie made with the same name

It's not a misspelling it's the eastern european spelling for "Vampire" it's been used for years and years and years.

I've liked what Don't Nod have been doing so i'll be keeping an eye on this especially if it can scratch my Bloodlines itch.

Same here. Life is strange was a fantastic game and I'm eager to see what Dontnod is up to. Kudos for them for not taking the easy route.

Honestly another college game or something like that would've been more interesting to me. And it's debatable if vampires are the difficult route, they sell

This is old gameplay that they already released at E3 and Gamescom this year.
Game looks amazing and i can't wait to play it.

combat looks a bit dull but honestly i'm loving the atmosphere and music of this so much that i'll likely still end up buying this.

looks like a great rainy day game.

Wow, not what I was expecting, at all. Looks (and sounds!!!) fantastic. Instantly shot up my very short personal list of most anticipated titles.
As they've already pointed out themselves, the combat system seems to need a bit of work still, everything else already looks really good, though.

Loool do you have to tilt the camera everytime you want to move a different direction?
What a boring ass game.

Gameplay looks awful, and the writing is cringeworthy as usual with dontnod games. Graphics are nice (minus shitty CA), but i think i'll pass.

Always wondered what Bloodborne would look like without chromatic abomination.
The combat looks to be on par with Fable...
