Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Well, i started to play Castle of Illusion on Xbox One and game runs really bad, with a lot of frame drops, like 20fps or less.

Someone have problem with this game too ?

Worked fine for me. I would do a hard restart on your Xbox One (hold power button for 10 seconds and then turn back on) and then go straight to the game when the Xbox comes back up. I had to do this for Forza Horizon a couple of times.

I will try this later, that's the first time that i have problems with BC. Thanks :D

So I'm the only one getting serious framerate dips in Horizon? It only happened 2 or 3 times during the first hour or so but it was easily running in the low teens for about 30 seconds. I never got anything like that on 360.

I'm playing the digital version btw.

The Horizon games are so much fun but call me old, I really could do without the festival premise. I skip every cut-scene I am allowed to.

I got it yesterday at a very busy intersection. Played it for around 30 minutes. Besides this, the game appears fine.

Yeah, I am not a fan of the festival stuff myself. I guess they need a narrative hook to tie everything together but I wish they would tone it down.

It's hard to judge the performance of a bc game. If I'm able to play for 2+ hours without a single hiccup and then all of a sudden the game becomes unplayable, the game runs perfect on the Xbox One, but something causes it to start stuttering.

You know, I really do appreciate MS allowing discs to also be used for backwards compatibility on Xbox One. As someone who was a huge 360 gamer and has a nice collection of discs still it is really nice to not have to re-buy all of them digitally just to be able to now play them on my Xbox One.

Of course some games (like Metroid Prime Trilogy!) are so amazing they deserve to be purchased multiple times heh), but yea, props to them. :)

How can I get my Forza Horizon save from my 360 to Xbox One without a gold membership?

I don't think you can without the cloud. However, I have not tried it with a USB drive. I might give that a go tonight unless somebody states otherwise. Also, just in case you were thinking of redeeming a gold trial code, it will not give access to the cloud for some reason. At least for my friend it didn't.

No drops on my end so far, gonna play more tonight and see what happens

I had some nasty drops but it seems random. Because I then started it over and was more smooth, even in the places that dropped before.

Great to hear Horizon runs well, didn't expect to see any Forza BC as there was rumours licencing could hold them back and no way to test as all my gaming stuff is in storage for a while. Does it feel like the same wheel ffb on Xbox One as the 360 version?

Fingers crossed for more Forza BC now, missing the Asian tracks from the old games.

Can you download forza from the web store? Want to download without disturbing people using the xbox

Edit: found it

Bill Stillwell just posted on Twitter. Glad it's a known issue. Of note, clearing 360 storage doesn't seem like the be-all end-all solution.

Well, I guess the whole 'erase local X360 storage' solution was just placebo effect when it might simply have been a restart of system or game that did it. Glad they're aware of the issue and I hope that their work applies to the general behavior of some other BC titles suffering similar performance issues on occasion that are often worked around with a restart.

Forza Horizon is playing pretty smoothly for me so far, however, I've gone back to Forza Motorsport 4 to grind my way back to Level 50 in solo online lobbies, in order to unlock all of the loyalty cars in Horizon.

Apparentlyyyyyy there was, recently, an update that fixed a problem involving gameplay between disc users & digital users. I guess that brings us a step closer?

It does. A BC title is only packaged from a final 'gold' image of the game - ie they will repackage for 360 emu OS update, but not for title updates, as those would need recertification. So basically the game has to be 100% definitely finished to be BC. So if they did a title update after all these years, something is happening.

Played more than 30 minutes of FH and low framerate happened a lot. First the intro fmv the video was stuttering so the audio was not in-sync. Then happened a couple of times while racing.

I was thinking maybe it was something to do with being part of the preview program?

It's possible, but highly doubtful in my case. I restarted the system and the game and I only deleted local Xbox 360 storage as a last resort. Before then, FH was absolutely unplayable during the first actual race (after you've been introduced to the Horizon festival stuff). It's hard to imagine what else I could have tried, apart from waiting for an update to be pushed out.

I'm in the preview on all 3 of my systems including my S each of my system uses raid 0 externals with 7200 rpm 64mb cache western digital drives game plays perfect on all my systems. When anything does run like crap I alway reboot. 99% of the time that's all it takes.

Was playing the rally expansion for Forza Horizon and then the framerate stutters hit which led me to go crashing into a boulder.
I'll wait until they fix it, as the rally expansion is hard enough with boulder's jumping in front of me.

RDR aside, it is weird that the BC games with the worst performance all seem to be the first party published titles. The games I've played have all run well.

Probably because they take more advantage of the 360's architecture than multiplatform titles

Yup. Heavily optimized for 360 hardware, with all kinds of advanced tricks 3rd parties typically aren't using, and many 1st party games tend to push the machine to the absolute edge. Plus, games like Forza Horizon, Halo Reach, and Gears 3 were all released several years into the generation, so that's all doubly true.

Makes total sense. Also weird since surely those titles were the most logical for MS to benchmark while they developed the emulation.

Forza Horizon works like crap for me, bad framerate, feels shaky all the time and the videos work even worse. Any recomendation?

Go to settings and delete your x360 storage then reboot.

Its a bug, MS is aware. It will be fixed soon.

Edit: Beaten, it seems.

I wish they'd put Too Human on there because I'd play that.

That will never happen... ever.

There was a court case regarding licensing of the Unreal engine.
It closed the studio.
One of the provisions of the case was that a reasonable effort be made to return all unsold copies of the game.

You've probably got better odds of seeing Kingdoms of Amalur than you do Too Human.

If only. Doubt it'll happen though because of the legal complications with the engine.

Yeah, that sucks.

It is a real, real damn shame about that game. I think with some tweaks it could have been a very fun Diablo clone.

I mean it WAS fun. Story and characters needed serious work but the loot table/layout was pretty well done. With more than 2 players, I would love it.

Dyack has done some amazing things. I'm sure he has his demons and I know it's wrong to promote him on Gaf but his contribution to the industry is pretty profound.

So I bought the season pass because it includes the rally expansion, except the MS site keeps wanting to charge me for it still. How can I get it?

Does it? I don't remember that being the case.

EDIT: So it does. Ignore what the MS site says, and try to access the content in game.
