1) Nice to see no Glossy Piano Black, finger print/scratch magnet finish on this. I wish my original had the same.
Reading the review...this was probably the most interesting thing I took out of it...

They all say this at launch.. But they turn into the jet mine is right now. I would only buy this thing if after launch, an overwhelming consensus is that it's quite but for right now, it's just eerie information without that mass vocal feel.
Sadly since I have a part of Astros, the slim is not an option and hopefully the neo looks and is priced good enough for me to want to officially convert earlier rather than when my OG does kick the bucket... Which i fear 😧
Not much of an unboxing. She is probably not someone who should be doing unboxing videos. It's an art slow down and let us take in the details! She just can't wait to get it out of the box and discard the packaging. Didn't even take time to describe the the factory fresh smell.
That's why I like Mark from CGR. He will take his time to admire the box and talk over the details of the packaging. I also like iPhone reviewers like DetroitBORG, now they know how to unbox a new product.

Xbox One S has HDR and 4K Bluray playback, and is £249.99 for 500GB in UK WITH FIFA 17.
If this PS4 Slim console isn't £250 I would b very disappointed.

As someone with a launch PS4 I'm assuming there are not a lot of reasons to consider trading my PS4 in for this, correct?

I have a White PS4 and there is nothing there except 5ghz Wifi, and less power consumption. It really is just in case you want a new PS4.
If trading in you will be trading up to a Neo
Whats kinda funny is that at one point there was a huge outcry about the Neo and Sony slapping those that got a orig PS4 in the face with the improved specs...
Same for Scorpio.
MS does the unthinkable with the XBO S and offers some performance improvements and 4K. Some ppl didnt want this to happen tho and yet its fine now.
Now the PS4 Slim is nothing really special in improvements and its like...is that it? This release would have been alot more accepted overall last gen because thats what both Sony and MS did.
It gets hard to keep up with what the outrage of the week, month is. And I said it would be really funny if MS beat Sony to the 4K game. Having your back against the wall does something to companies, execs.

PS4 Neo >> Supposed to be the UPGRADE system for theses that have OG PS4
PS4 Slim >> Supposed to be the NEW system for new users replacing the actual OG PS4
Sony didn't make the slim to make you UPGRADE your OG PS4... if you already has a OG PS4 will UPGRADE to Neo.

Sounds like MS and XBox S changed the game in this case, changing expectations.

I don't know. Seems like this slim is more like a budget ps4 than an upgrade. Kind of like the previous ps console slims. Fine by me.
Make it as cheap as possible. I hope it comes in at $249.
As for the NEO, I was in the Sony doesn't need one / just release a PS5 later camp. I'm not expecting a Scorpio-type boost in performance. Price it at $399 for a moderate upgrade.

It's just fanboy nonsense.
Nobody 6 months ago was clamouring for 4k support or HDR. They wanted quieter PS4s with 5ghz WiFi and external storage. Likewise, they wanted Xbox one's with a similar system to Playgo and background audio.
Neither manufacturer has provided what the fans were demanding but because Microsoft has finally managed to design a decent looking console, one with a couple extra features to boot people are trying to pretend that this is the norm.
The Xbox one S is a great feat of engineering and Microsoft should be commended for taking a shitty looking consol, making it sexy looking and adding a few sprinkles on top.
But let's not pretend that this is what the slim process has ever been about. Every playstation slim is a cheaper made console from its older brother, designed as a cost cutting measure and away to expand the audience of the device.
If you really think the slim or the Neo is a ugly piece of shit and Microsoft got right, fine. Sell your PS4 and get an Xbox S. Get an elite controller while you are at it because Sony isn't making anything like that either.
It's time to understand that business models are not formed around the opinions of Neogaf forum posters. If you don't like what's being offered, go somewhere else. It's that simple.

People who can afford 4k sets can afford the Neo. It will have the extras they want. PS4 slim is for mass market customers. Price is king here

Sony is the market leader, having a standard and expectations is only natural. A lot of people will indeed just say 'Is that it?'.. Which where price will come into the equation.

What happened to all that anger, angst and vitriol when all of this stuff was getting into motion? I didn't fail to notice how everything started to simmer down once it became apparent MS was doing the same thing.
Everything is about console wars and faux outrage. There should definitely be some weekly or monthly outrage spotlight thing.

Was looking to replace my PS4 with a NEO, rather than this. However I don't have a 4K TV, so maybe I should just get a slim?
If you can live without an optical out, go for it. I will be replacing my launch PS4 with this eventually as well, as i am attracted to the minimalist design.
Of course, even without a 4K TV, you'll see plenty of visual upgrades with NEO, so its up to you

It's amazing how quickly expectations change. Now console revisions MUST add something or it's worthless.
Iterative consoles are going to be an easier sell than i thought. Hope everyone is happy.

Oh really? I didn't know that, I thought it was just a resolution bump. Maybe I will get a NEO after all!
A resolution bump is expected,but even if you have a 1080p TV, because the resolution is higher than your display, the game will be clearer than a native 1080p image, if it scales correctly.
Of course at the same time,devs are not banned from making other additions to games like better AA, better graphical refinements and smoother framerates, so its definitely not just limited to a resolution increase.

Any resolution bump downsampled to 1080P will most likely give you better image quality overall. Hold out for the Neo

Ok, I watched the teardown video. A few thoughts.
1) This thing is built like a tank. Everything is even more densely packed in than the PS3 slim. A real feat of engineering, bit of a nightmare to repair.
2) the fan on this thing is even smaller than OG. Don't expect to stay quiet for long without regular cleaning. However...
3) The console has a massive heatsink now. This is probably why it runs hotter. The heatsink looks almost PC grade, so outside of some annoying plastic creaking when hot (like the PS3 Slim) this thing will be fine to run at a much higher temp for longer than the OG.
4) The console has some decent looking thermal paste and it's well applied. Hopefully that will help to keep temps down.
All in all, I think the PS4 slim is alot higher quailty under the hood than its externals suggest. It will be interesting to see how it performs in the real world in dusty environments, but of now, looks like a decent upgrade that if nothing else, should have a very high longevity.
