Rocket League: Rumble Update out Today. Trading/Crates/Mac/Steam OS Betas

I'm always amazed at the amount of updates Rocket League gets.

Probably trying to avoid the gambling contriversy.
The gambling problem of CS GO and DOTA 2 barely had anything to do with the Steam Market. With no Steam Market the same controversy would have happened.
So I unlocked a crate after my first game and it asked me if I wanted to open it. I didn't want to leave the party so I didn't open it.

I then checked it out a couple minutes later and saw all the contents and was thinking fuck yeah!!! But they are all locked behind the key system? Like...there is no possible way for me to get a single one of those items other than trading or purchasing a key with real money?
Yep. Only trading or buying.

yep, the only thing the market did for that was to provide a value on the various skins that were used as betting currency, which would have happened regardless of there being a steam marketplace (see TF2 trading economy developed by the community)

Xbox One players: A HARD RESET should fix #Rumble framerate issues. (Hard reset: While console is on, hold power button for ten seconds.)
A cold boot makes it better, but even after that, the framerate is still significantly worse than it used to be. Oh well. :/

I just got the Chakram Wheels from a crate and they are colored blue. Are all crate wheels colored or did I just get lucky as fuck?

Blind box gambling mechanics using real money can DIAF. I'm so glad I'm mostly immune to this stuff, but it never doesn't feel sleazy. Let me pay you for what I want to purchase. Or let me earn a way to access it through play or some other means. You want my cash? You show me exactly what I'm going to get for it.

I'm happy to keep supporting Psyonix for paid expansions and even DLC skins / cars. But no chance in hell am I blindly throwing money their way just for a chance at something I might want. And if they're subjecting us to F2P money-grubbing, gambling-addiction-exploiting mechanics, they might as well make the game F2P so we at least get the F2P benefit of an increased player base.
I turned off the Crate notifications, but the point still stands.

Got the new Dominus GT car in my first crate, would have preferred the Takumi RX-T but I have no reason to be picky. Rumble mode has been hilarious so far playing with friends. Haven't laughed this much while playing a video game for a long long time.

The EULA for this put me in such a bad mood, I couldn't even play the game as I was planning. I'm off to donate more to the EFF. We badly need to reforms the laws allowing this crap. Also, all goodwill I had towards Psyonix is gone for good. I won't be buying the DLCs now.

Rumble is a really entertaining distraction to break up a bit of the monotony, but it is, of course, no match for the standard mode.

Rumble is fun, but spikes really sort of break it a bit. Unless you have a pocket freeze/boot/punch, a lot of good players will be air boosting straight for the goal if they can spike near midfield. Contacting the spiked player or the ball should dislodge it.

There's like 3 counters though. The boot, the punching glove, and the freeze should stop it.

The magnet too, presumably.

Absolutely love Rumble mode.

Hate the crate system. Fuck off with that.

Pretty much my feelings. Rumble is an absolute blast, my friend and I were laughing our asses in every match with the ridiculous stuff you could do. Best update yet.

The Crate system tho. Not a fan.

Man, I was already overwhelmed coming back after not playing it for like a year and seeing all the new stuff.. now there's even more. Best PS+ game ever.
(Mainly talking about the Rumble Mode. Screw those crates.)

This update really messed up my game. It's incredibly hitchy and framey. Whenever the ball is in front of the goal in ANY circumstance that game just freezes for a sec. My party was experiencing same issues. Tried 5 games and no improvement. Pings are good. Anybody else experiencing this?

Playing on Xbox One.

"If the Crates and Keys system isn’t for you, then you can turn it off with a prompt the first time a Crate is dropped in-game or at any time via the Options menu. Should you decide to opt out, you will still receive random Crates when they occur, but you will not be notified, nor will they be displayed in your inventory unless you choose to turn the system back on."

Excellent news. I hate the crate system but if you can really hide all of it easily and never interact with it I won't be put off by it.

Goddamn this game

Booted it up and have spent an hour making a bunch of presets. I didn't even know all this extra customization was gonna be in this update! And those crate items look way too sick. The temptation is real 😩

Rumble is crazy fun. My friends and I probably won't touch standard again for quite a while. I just wish there was a way to discard a power up you don't want to use.

Simply reading it should answer that question. I'm talking about the PC version here.

(I don't mean to derail the discussion and I understand 99.9% of people don't care about the things in there, but damn it really gets to me especially when it's all after purchase and I have no choice but to agree if I want to keep using it.)

Disgusting.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you can see what is in the crate BEFORE you use a key to open it. It's not gambling in a CS crate sort of way.

same here. will try some things tomorrow to remedy it but this could end up being a deal breaker for me

You see "possible contents", a list of items with different tiers of rarity all potentially in that crate. I think this is similar to how DOTA does it? No idea if dupes are allowed, but if they are, that'd be even worse.

Dupes? You mean across multiple crates, because only one item pops out?

For you.
Disgusting.

You can see what you could possibly get.
It's the same as a CS crate.

Except you can't sell your duplicates or buy items individually in the market. So it's worse.

I'd assume Steam would allow a refund under these circumstances. I mean, they've significantly changed what they're offering.

Is anyone else having huge connection problems after the patch (on PC, I'm aware of the xbox issues)? I tried playing around 10 games and only managed to finish two of them without getting disconnected in the first couple of seconds. I figure it's just the amount of people playing due to the patch, but no one else really seems to be complaining about it.

I played a bunch of matches earlier and had no issues on PC.
