So there is one particularly heavy week coming soon.

Sep 20
  • Batman TellTale: Episode 2
  • Cossacks 3
  • The Bunker
  • Wheels of Aurelia
Sep 21
  • Pankapu: Episode 1
Sep 22
  • Klang
  • Pavilion: Episode 1
  • The Uncertain: Episode 1
  • Virginia

Oh shit, Cossacks 3? Like in the actual real Cossacks game part 3?

Ah, fantastic! Thank you very much! Yes, those email tags were what I was looking into but I couldn't figure out how to get them working. Thanks to your example, now I can (hopefully), so... here! Quoting this, you'll find keys for the review build of the game, which is really the version that'll be made public on the 30th, except you can play it right now! If you do take one, please tell me so I can update the message (and my own files) :-D

Thanks kindly for the advanced preview. I took the key starting ACJQP.

Something tells this is some series I should have heard of before. What's makes it so hype-worthy?

Nostalgia and a classic building/unit system from old school RTS, that is rather hard to come by lately. I absolutely loved the first games:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/4870/

No clue how part 3 keeps up with modern times or what they changed and if they reevaluated everything that made Cossacks 2 bad, but I really, really want this to be good. Will report back once I got my hands on it.

I read it is actually a remake of Cossacks 1.

I don't see Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander listed anywhere in this thread. I just found out about it when Steam advertised it, yesterday, for it's release from Early Access. Seems to be a combination of Xcom base building and squad management, FTL space maps, and Final Fantasy turn-based battles. Was hoping for some impressions, because I'm interested in it. Had a successful Kickstarter (over 400% funded) and Steam user rating of 93%.

I have not had the opportunity to play that one but I have noticed it too as it was in the top sellers on Steam. The game looks good, reviews are all praises, but I could not finish FTL (although I loved it), so I am a bit wary of the difficulty of such a title.

You and me both!! And now, I finally have a date to share, to know just how much time that'll be... September 30th! Uh, sorry, yeah, that's another September game coming out. Hope it won't be too packed (but honestly, October looks like it's going to be much of the same!).

Either way, here's the game's steampage: http://store.steampowered.com/app/523680

No preorders, since the game will use a "pay-what-you-liked" model everywhere, including on Steam (still can't believe they went for it), meaning the game will be entirely free to access and experience, and you'll only support the game *after* playing it, if you so desire, at the value you estimate your experience to be/have been.

It's very similar to pay-what-you-want, except it aims to give players the most choice as to when and why to support the game, and I'm hoping to offer an alternative to the "wait for sales" game, and most other economical discussions surrounding indie game pricing. We'll see if this is a gigantic mistake or not, but the long and short of it is: if you're interested in the game at all, you won't have any reason not to jump in come September 30th!

That's an interesting model, hope it works well for you!

Also to note: the Steam release is currently windows-only, I'm working to get another solution up and running for Mac and Linux users! I also recommend a hefty amount of RAM - 4GB should do the trick, anything more is gravy, but I'm afraid I can't guarantee it'll work with less. Same with the OS - 64bit is recommended, can work with 32bit, but you're better off assuming 64bit's the way to go!

Took the fifth one!

I was going to post about it. I played it during the early access and absolutely loved it but stopped because I wanted to experience it with all the content there!

From what I've played during the early access it wasn't as hard as FTL but still the RNG plays a part in the game.

Took the fifth one!

Thanks :-D As for the model, I certainly intend to report the results, whether it goes right or wrong - plenty of factors that could affect it, of course, but I'm hoping it'll be interesting no matter what happens!

Toma, you checking out Sorcery 4 next week? I recall you enjoying the first game

I also enjoyed the second very much. I think I skipped the third one for no particular reason though, so maybe.

3 is even better. Much bigger scope and scale

I would have hoped 3 would be discounted shortly before the release of 4.

Too many indies can't keep up.

Check the recommendations in the voting list beginning of each thread (month). Thats usually the most interesting stuff distilled in a 6-7 games list.

Other than that... yeah, this years september stuff is bonkers.

I read it is actually a remake of Cossacks 1.

I'll so take that. Though its kinda weird to call it Cossacks 3 then, but we'll see.

This game came out of nowhere and it's awesome! The first few hours have been a total delight.

Recommendation : Unbox [PC] - 12.79$ on Steam

Only played it for a couple of hours, but I already really like it. It's a 3D platformer that takes inspiration from N64-style collectathons. Some big and really detailed worlds with lots to do, and it all controls quite well.

That's on my wishlist. I probably would have bought it already if Clustertruck and Event weren't coming out this month

Just wanted to drop a quick thanks for shouting out Slayaway Camp :) Its a game I've been working on for the past year and a half with Ido Yehieli, creator of Cardinal Quest, and also Jessi Ross, who did a tonne of art and community help for me on Cosmochoria. Jessi and I have been doing the art for Slayaway Camp and are super proud of how its coming together. We have it for free on Kongregate right now so we can get feedback from players, find out what puzzles need tweaking etc. But we're working on a premium steam version as well, which should have all the fun at a one-time cost, no ads, etc.

Huge love my homies!

Yeah, from what I've played the game is really intuitive and addictive and I'm really enjoying it. Love the 80's style of the game.

If anyone wants a direct link to check it out you can find it here: http://www.kongregate.com/games/bluewizardgames/slayaway-camp

Holy crap, this looks awesome.

I played Honey Rose for nearly one hour yesterday and I must say the developers nailed the game's presentation. So far it has been incredible I wasn't expecting to have
my uniform mugged while spending some free time in a park and being beat down by the thieves when I tried to recover it
. The 4th wall breaking is really well done as well the music.

(I'll admit to nervously F5-ing this thread to see impressions!)

I'm really glad you're enjoying it so far! I hope there'll be more surprises like that if you keep playing - I mean, there *should*, but since most of the game relies on random event rolls... I can't say specifically what will happen in any given playthrough :-D What difficulty mode are you playing on? How are you finding the balance so far?

For info, the composer is Morusque, the same as for Seasons After Fall, which sounds COMPLETELY different - a testament to his versatility!

(Also... "Rumble" Rose - gotta say, didn't hear that one before, but okay, fair enough, it fits - in fact, I'm kind of disappointed I didn't think to make that joke/reference in the game :-D)

I'm playing on what I think is the normal mode and it seems well balanced the game feels responsive and easy to understand the mechanics. Lol I was thinking about not confusing the name with Rumble Rose and ended doing it anyway. xD

Got it, thanks a lot :-D I'll be looking forward to your thoughts as you progress through the game, if you do!

I have only tried it for half an hour so far, and the art is spot on, both music and graphics. I don't know if there will be other fights but the controls felt pretty great and unexpected as I was merely expecting a visual novel!

Also, there is the digital manual and the story about your 3 years spent developing your own game which is super cool!
http://pehesse.fr/honey/access/Honey_DigitalManual.pdf

I am playing with an Xbox360 controller, and the only thing which was a bit surprising is that if I use the (left) analog stick in the menu, it is too sensitive, and it goes like twice in the direction that I want to go. D-Pad works fine though.

That explains a lot! The music is great!

Thanks for relinking it here as well! I wasn't sure about the foreword as I didn't want it to read like a begging plea or a sob story, but I wanted to give some honest context to the game existing at all. But even then, that doesn't mean anyone has to like it, or anything :-D It is what it is!

Oh, dang! I'll admit, I fought with that for very long, and I thought I had reached a decent compromise, but it looks like it's still not enough. I'll go back to look into it some more. Thankfully it should only happen in menus with both X and Y movement?

That explains a lot! The music is great!

Indeed it is! The OST will be made available as soon as the game releases :-D

That Two Tribes game, RIVE, is out today: http://store.steampowered.com/app/278100/

This is what they had to say to their mailing list:

It's here, RIVE is out on PlayStation 4 and Steam. It's also the end. Or a new beginning? Probably both!

If you read a bit of confusion in this opening message you're right, this is a confusing time for us at Two Tribes. First let's push the Release Trailer before we elaborate though!

https://youtu.be/VneN_eKTo_c

Direct Download: we.tl/xXVsBEbVuL

The Elaboration
As usual we've been too busy with being late with everything to reflect on what's happened the last few months. We've moved from finalizing the game, to bugfixing, to Sony submissions to Gamescom/PAX Booths and now to the release of what is our last game ever. Now that RIVE releases on PlayStation 4 and Steam today, that time for reflection comes.

This morning, the realization set in that today truly marks the end of an era, and that a lot is riding on the success of RIVE. If it fails, it won't be because we didn't try. RIVE is the best we can do, it's what all of our actions these last years have lead to, to us it's perfect! We hope you enjoy the hell out of our baby!

The last 16 years of working on games, we have gained so much experience, met so many great people (you know who you are!), met the most amazing fans and have had the privilege being in charge of our own destiny. It's been a wonderful ride, with ups and downs as with any great roller coaster. This is it, RIVE is yours now and we can't wait to discover what's next!

It is very minor, and just for Y movement in the menus (I did not encounter X movement yet, I think). Maybe something like for autoclickers would do: set a control delay so that there has to be a 100 ms delay between two inputs, or something like that.

That's how it currently is, actually! In fact, the precise timing is 170ms, which I found to be the best compromise between reactive but twitchy, and precise but sluggish. It's mosy likely an issue with the gamepad's deadzone, which I'm not sure I'll ever manage to be completely rid of... though I'll keep looking!
