ReCore ReView thread

I'm saying the industry's standard scale which have always been 0-10 is the norm and a such 5 is the average score.

I bet you're open critic scores would go down rapidly if they started reviewing steam trash, and as such it's fluctuating while the old ass system still works, as the rating is based on their time and makes the most sense.

A game getting 7 all across the board should not make it "average" as it would be above on the rating system they use.

To make it easier in your mind, think of 7 as 70%, or a C-. 50% is an F, etc..

It's a stupid ass system and I merely use it as a quick look to see what the general population thinks.

A 5 is the rating average no matter how much you want to say otherwise.

You can say it's below average among the rest of the rated games, but it's still above average on a critics scale.

And if you want to push the fact we have a lot of great games and as such move the goal post for the average the scoring system needs to change.

Yes I'm fully aware the score system is fucked and games get 9 and 10s willy nilly

When you're spending $40-$60 on a game, anything less than "pretty good" is a pretty big disappointment and generally will not be tolerated by consumers. A 5/10 would be one thing if it were free, but when you're paying for games they should generally be a 7 or more (considering there are tons of games to choose from that score higher).

I thought it would get around 7 in scores and it seems like it got pretty close. Alot of user opinions has been positive so I dont regret preordering. I just hope the pc version is stable.

What in the world...

The common use of average refers to the mean of a set of data.
The set of data here is the industry's review score, not the numbers used for the scoring system.

In your logic, a grade of 60 or below shouldn't be failing in university using 0-100 scales, since the student is "above average"

How did you make it to 2016 without realizing how video game reviews work?

They absolutely don't though. Look at how many games got those ratings during this console generation. There aren't a lot.

It just so happens that most games do not score a "5", which would be the middle-point of the scale but doesn't mean that it's automatically the average score. The average score is the average of all scores. Literally. Just because 5 is in the middle between 1 and 10 doesnt automatically make it the average.

This is a weird argument o0
problem with the median and total average is that more or less only AAA or higher profile games get reviewed. And as such the bar will be higher than it actually would be if you review everything.

On the critics score its average once it hits 5 but on total it's not since most games don't actually get reviewed.

Yeah, I remember people claiming Dark Cloud was Playstation's Zelda, lol.

Dark Cloud wasn't mediocre though. And PS already has its Zelda....

What's the point in repeating "5 IS THE AVERAGE RATING" when it's clear that it's almost never used that way? Why are you so attached to this axiom?

Pretty much all console games seem to get reviews.

The multiple mentions of exploration makes me happy.

I get the feeling this will be a case of where people will buy and enjoy this game, and those who only read bad reviews will try to convince them that its a bad game.

I'll be glad to report back in this thread if I don't enjoy it.

I think he's arguing that Steam shovelware should be reviewed, that way when his anticipated game comes out to middling reviews, he can see that long trail of garbage on the low end of the scale and feel better about himself.

I think.

'the heart of a PS2 or Gamecube-era platformer'

EXACTLY what I was hoping to hear. I'll take 20.

Yes, this is enough for me, warts and all. I'd like to see more games of this kind in future, so I'm putting my money down now. It doesn't hurt that MS is giving away a $10 gift code, too.

Was rooting for this, had such a promising reveal trailer.
Yeah, I just rewatched it. That was a great point in that E3, I thought.

I remember being surprised when I found out this game was coming out this year. That was only like... last month. I wonder if they decided they needed to get the game during the lull and hope that its lower price would help it out with impulse purchases. It does seem that more time in the oven would've helped this game out a lot.

I've pretty much decided that I'm going to keep my Amazon order. At least I'll get a Nuts 'n Bolts code to give away on GAF sooner or later.

Point is everyone screaming it's below average when the used score system says otherwise. I mean sure, if you take everything it is, but individually it's still above a 5 on the critic scale.

Not to mention if you only give select games review usually you pick good games (or high cost ones with a lot of marketing behind it) which usually will go above the default critic score line.

How does this game fare overall to all the other $40 games?

It seems that near the end of the game there's a large grind to finding more cores doing more of the samey type of stuff and reviewers didn't like the repetitiveness of it and going back to the same places to get them. Then on top of having to go through loading screens because you gotta craft and upgrade and those loading screens are long and such...yea, it's a recipe for disaster. I think from the streams that I saw that I will enjoy the game but I can definitely see why others wouldn't.

...and Armature continues their mediocre streak. Wonder how long they can keep trading on "Those guys that made a good game 15 years ago!"?

Wow, finally a japanese game and it's a complete dud. Critically panned, commercially DOA. There goes the the eastern support.

Probably Quantum Break.
I always find it funny how people latch onto 1 or 2 people's thoughts and project it k to everybody's thoughts of the game. 1 person(hip hop gamer I believe) said QB was the Cbox TLOU. Nobody else claimed that and not even somebody from a major outlet but yet here we are

Anticipated? I've yet to purchase it and barely even cared until I saw the stream which looked interesting.

You can see it how you want, but the inherent median score system is super flawed considering only a small % of actual released games get properly reviewed if you look at the daily trash that is released.

I will however purchase it on UWP as it looks like a alright game while waiting for Mafia and such.

This is a bad year to bring up price because we just got Ratchet and Clank this Spring.
