(Junpei IS basically Xander, but he has the benefit of hitting the ground running unlike Xander who is garbage for about 20% of the show's runtime).

P3's story would imo have been fantastic if they tightened up the pacing and went a bit less, for lack of a better term, "anime" with the tone. I was expecting something a lot darker when I was first hearing about the game, but ended up with an oddly consistently optimistic apocalypse plot. Even just stuff like Buffy the Vampire Slayer I think showed the struggle of straight up having the fate of the world resting on your shoulders much better, while in P3 everyone was just super determined to kick Nyx's ass and prevent the Fall after they had their Big Character Moment and that was that. They failed to really explore the more human side of being that young and having that massive a burden. Now, I know you should expect a fantasy JRPG and a TV show specifically about the struggles of growing up and adapting to the world to go about this stuff differently, but with how character driven Persona is they could've gone much further than they did in P3. That's not to say P3 didn't lack character development, but it was mostly very self-contained rather than pertaining to the plot at large.

So essentially, P3 has stronger groundwork with its plot and characters than P4 did imo. If P5 takes cues from that but has a tighter plot and a closer group dynamic, I'm a happy camper.

The fate of the world part has never been the draw of the Persona series to me personally. What really grabbed me when I found P3 was that all these characters were still living their lives despite the main threat. The social links allowing us to get to know these characters better when we are not dungeon crawling is fascinating to me. I found P4 to be a lot stronger with this since the story focused more on the team throughout instead of falling back on an end of the world threat(
it still happened of course, but P4 waited until the last moment before bringing it up
). I feel P4's characters having issues far more relatable and their more grounded goal of finding a killer gave it a much stronger groundwork for its story than P3 had.

This is why I'm looking forward to P5 taking a more episodic approach to its story. While I'd be happy to not have the fate of the world thing show up, I don't expect Atlus to ever pass that up, so hopefully it will at least be saved for the last "arc" and all the other major events can be more focused on the team as people.

?!? What about the people who want to waifu Haru??? We absolutely, absolutely must appeal to them. All girls must be waifuable... like, why would they ever change the status quo? What would be gained from making her a lesbian?

Ehhhhhhhh, we need to have him perv on the girls in a sophisticated way. It's funny.

No

Yuki Mishima will be the traitor.

IMPOSSIBLE. IMPOSSIBLE, ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE. HOW DARE YOU IMPLY THAT ONE OF THE PRIME WAIFU'S HAS BEEN TAINTED?! BEGONE, SINNER.

Yeah, sure, okay.. Romance is in the cards though,, yes?

See above

Nah, LOL

I think this is where I take my leave.

Happy Persona-ing, everyone. I'll be back whenever I've played through P5 to steal your hearts.

XOXO
I was Joker all along

Ehhhhhhhhhhh

Even Buffy was hit and miss in that regard, especially in the first season. Xander, Oz and Willow join Buffy on her hilariously dangerous escapades and don't seem to really care all that much. It's not until they start going into their respective main arcs that they start feeling the "weight" of their actions. Death is treated pretty flippantly too, barring a few important cases. Principal eaten alive but students possessed by ghost hyenas? Meh. Students murdered by bad guy of the week? lol. People seem to die every week and it barely matters and it's a serious low point of the show. On the other hand, when the show hit, it hit hard. Buffy's development is godlike, and lot of what you said applies to her (and arguably her alone ). She is straight up unrecognizable from season 1, but in the best way possible.

Honestly, P3 is pretty close to Buffy. Similar structure, similar cast of high school students and misfits brought together by a common goal (Junpei IS basically Xander, but he has the benefit of hitting the ground running unlike Xander who is garbage for about 20% of the show's runtime). I also think P3 had a fair amount of moments where the characters were overcome with despair, even post character development (moreso in the movie), but it's been a while since I played so I can't be too sure.

Very true, though I was thinking more season 5 and less season 1. That whole season was fantastic, but the final episode in particular was amazing. It's that kind of weight and drama I'm looking for. They take the whole saving the world plot but are still able to make it about the characters (especially Buffy) and their growth. Of course, the show is hardly perfect. Seasons 1-3 are spotty, season 4 is straight up trash, and seasons 6-7 are... seasons 6-7.

You know now that I think about it
if the man Haru is getting in a car with is a forced fiance rather than her corrupt father, this would actually make sense since if she was straight it would be too much of a retread from Mitsuru's S-Link. Pretty sure it's her father though. Still seeing the reactions of people if one of the female party members isn't romanceable because of her sexuality would both be hilarious and sad at the same time.

Her pic's one of the ones shown when advertising the dating feature.

I was never really satisfied with that Mitsuru picture, to be honest. It was my first attempt to use color more liberally and I think it shows.

Anyway, thanks. I was thinking about opening comissions lately, but I'm not sure if there's demand for something like that.

Comissions... Hmm... and do you have any advice for somebody trying to get good at drawing? When I was younger... I was really interested in writing and drawing. I ended up falling in love with writing more than drawing. When I was a kid, I used to be able to draw Sasuke pretty well but now.... yikes. Lol so do you have any advice?

Life Will Change has the energy I kind of wish Last Surprise would have as a battle theme. I like Last Surprise a lot, but it's definitely a bit low key compared to Mass Destruction and Reach Out. The chorus is incredible though. Verse is not as punchy as I'd like.

I don't know, really. I guess the best thing you could do is to carefully observe whatever you want to draw or paint. Go outside, look at trees and houses. Watch people when you're on a train. I think it's important to understand the underlying structure of everything. There's usually a pattern and once you identify that pattern, you can use it to your advantage.

I'm not saying that my art necessarily reflects this yet(my anatomy is far too wonky for that), but it's the best advice I can give you.

I don't agree. The verse is low key but it makes a bigger contrast with the chorus. It's not as "punchy" as Mass Destruction but fuck me if it isn't bursting with groovy energy. I love it and can't imagine getting tired of hearing it.

Yeah so I'm pretty sure that Willpower is, at the very least, a late boss theme.

EDIT: It's just occurred to me that Willpower could be the standard boss theme.

Don't get me wrong, it's definitely growing on me. And I definitely loved it to start with.

Kitajoh's remixes are always a delight.

Also, it's painfully obvious that Soejima has a lot more time for a single illustration now than he had during the spin-off galore:

I had no idea how much I missed this style.

I'm limiting myself to stuff we've already heard, like Last Surprise and Life Will Change, but I really really love how different this game sounds. It's definitely Meguro, but it's not making any attempt to re-create what Persona 3 or 4 did in any way. It's entirely its own beast.

I'm also liking the decreased reliance on the frumpy horns of 3 and 4 and the inclusion of strings in place of that. That's what sets it apart from the other two.

So guys, I think I've just decided that I'm out.

If anyone needs to contact me, feel free to PM me (if I've bollocksed something up in here for example). Other than that, I'm leaving until after Thursday.

P5 import OT will be up tomorrow, after I get back from work. Probably around 23 hours from now.

Before I go listening, is Willpower the PV03 theme?
Nope. Whole new track.
