The release of our debut PS VR game Robinson: The Journey is just months away, and development is in full swing. So today, we’re excited to launch our first dev diary, where we sent some of our developers to the Senckenberg Natural History Museum in Frankfurt to discuss the inspiration behind the game and how VR has enabled them to deliver gameplay experiences and tell a story in a way that wouldn’t be possible in any other medium. VR really is something else.

Our Robinson team first began to experiment with concepts for virtual reality via several demos, one of which was called Back to Dinosaur Island. Eventually those ideas developed into the concept behind Robinson: The Journey, slated for release this autumn exclusively for PS VR.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
God damn how does this VR game look so much better than so many others? I know its partially on the rails and what not but this game looks phenomenal.

Glad to see Crytek taking chances although The Climb looks more interesting to me. Hopefully they will release this as open source so other devs can see how they made a VR game. Perhaps the CryEngine will live again.

I don't know how long the game's supposed to be but it looks like a good demo for a more detailed, realistic game.

Looks cool, and possible the most AAA looking VR exclusive game, off the top of my head.

Funny that they have an xbox controller in a PS video though.

these graphics are insane. im expecting a downgrade. why is this a ps4 exclusive? i have a friend who bought a rift and has been suicidal ever since he tried out the PSVR.

that last part is a joke in case he sees this post lol.

So the game is exploratory in nature kind of walking simulator (versus say shooting mechanics) but with alien isolation "hide from the alien or die" type gameplay?

Game looks really impressive especially on base PS4 if thats the case (ie not neo)

I'm going to include this here rather then start a new thread.

Looks amazing. New gameplay.

Some additional information I got from this reddit thread.

Few key points from the interview
There are friendly and hostile dinosaurs
The game is a PSVR launch title
Crytek is developing for VR since two years (started out with tech demos)
There are two companions in the game, one of them is Higgs (the floating cube), and the other one will be revealed later throughout the game
You can switch to Higgs to scan objects (animals, plants) in order to get information about the environment
No close-combats. Apparently when you get attacked, a black screen is shown displaying the current population, which is zero (since you just died). The game suppose to be a pure exploration/puzzle adventure.

This and Battlezone are my two most wanted on PSVR.

Image quality is terrible, and I say that as someone who rarely cares about IQ. I hope that's a problem with Polygon's capturing equipment.

Can this be played with the Move controller?

Yup, the B-roll gameplay video just above my post has much cleaner IQ.

And yup, it supports the Move. Robinson's tool doohickey is blatantly modeled after a Move controller

I think that's what it really looks like in the headset.
