Poor Tmartn... Now that he lost a huge source of revenue due to Valve shutting down his lotto site, he must be scrambling to come up with new ways to make enough money to sustain his luxurious style of life. I really feel for the guy, it musn't be easy to have to settle for just one ivory backscratcher this month instead of two. Maybe we ougtta start a GoFundMe to help him out? Poor soul.

Did it rake in that much cash for him? I mean, does anyone know how much? I don't watch a lot of YouTubers but from what I've seen of his vids, yeah, not a fan. Sounds like a douche who's clearly pimping stuff he's paid to pimp out without disclosing it.

People have been reporting that it turned in around a million dollars per month. I mean, just look at Tmartn's luxurious mansion. It's not exactly a secret.

Seems relevant. Atleast something is happening about gambling in the UK.

YouTuber Nepenthez charged over video game gambling site

Two men have appeared in court charged with offences under the Gambling Act in what is believed to be the first prosecution involving betting on video games.

Craig Douglas and Dylan Rigby, who are both from Essex, are charged with promoting a lottery and advertising unlawful gambling.
Mr Douglas makes gaming videos on YouTube under the pseudonym Nepenthez.

He is also charged with inviting children to gamble.

The two men appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court. The case has been adjourned until 14 October.

The Gambling Commission, which brought the prosecution, has been looking into the rise of video game gambling.

It is warning parents that children can be drawn into betting on so-called skins - virtual goods such as weapons or clothes that are a feature of many popular games.
It has been estimated that the global market in betting on video games is worth as much as £4bn.

Good. Hope something happens against the US based ones too.
I think this whole thing could blow up again if the proper authorities actually did an investigation into this. If not criminal charges, then at least set a precedent so we actually classify this shit as illegal gambling.

CSGO Gambling Lawsuit Now Open To Everyone

Adding to OP!

I know this lawsuit focuses on gambling with individuals betting against each other but I wonder if this will also stop "gambling" with companies charging real world money for a RNG loot. I would like this, of course it would hurt the pockets of developers but hell let me just buy the Hanzo skin I want with real money if you are already offering me the option to buy cosmetics.

It kind of sucks though that responsible adults wanting to gamble their skins no longer can. Hopefully things will get worked out where age appropriate restrictions are put in place so that those of legal age can have the freedom to spend (and lose) their money however they wish.

There's more to it than just age. Gambling is extremely regulated (for good reason).

A piece was on BBC 4 today which was very interesting and well covered the CS Lotto stuff.

BBC4 is the pinnacle of English Middle class coverage, so it's interest to see very thorough non-gamer journalism about our hobby (to be fair, most gaming 'journalists' are critics, entertainers, and news outlets at best).

I work at a restaurant by the nec in Birmingham and I have served prosyndicate twice (first time he streamed it I had no idea this why the cslotto dude until people told me I was on his YouTube) he's an ok dude from my experience for what it's worth.

Just saw this from Eurogamer:

YouTubers escape fine for promoting CSGO Lotto site they secretly owned. But future infractions will be punished.

TmarTn and Syndicate both encouraged their audience to plough money into gambling website CSGOLoto.com, while failing to disclose they were in fact the site's owners.

The pair paid other YouTube influencers between $2500 and $55,000 to do the same, under instruction they not say anything negative about the site. (The FTC did not disclose which influencers were paid this money.)

The case sparked outrage last summer when CS:GO Lotto's true ownership was uncovered. It's taken until now for the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to make its judgement.

And what a judgement. TmarTn and Syndicate do not need to admit any culpability and will face no penalty for their past actions.

Looking to the future, however, the FTC will require proper disclosure from the pair and will enforce violations. These will come with a hefty fine - of $40,654 (about £31k) for each infraction.

"The goal of the FTC isn't to be a punitive or draconian agency," FTC spokesperson Mitchell J. Katz told Rolling Stone. "We are here to educate consumers about new markets."

Seriously dunno who in their right minds would keep subbing or supporting these fools now. Gotta be a real idiot after what they did.

That's bull. They broke the law, but these guys will just get a slap on the wrist, even though thousands of dollars was taken by them.

Nah. The people we really want to fuck up, is the dumb kids that get paid $100 and don't realise that they are breaking the law. Those are the ones we want to get.

Maturity, bitches.
So the lesson here is to find new scams because if you're first you're in the 'need to educate' stage and will avoid punishment.

Wow so you're now a "draconian agency" if you enforce punishment to people who break the law.

I remember when this blew up people more knowledgeable than me in this area said the FTC take no prisoners and will hit these scumbags hard. What happened?

Not even a slap on the wrist.

They just stopped what they are doing.

Scam kids out of hundreds of thousands? Slap on the wrist. Get caught with a baggy of weed? Ten years.

What a fucked up country. I'm glad I don't live there.

I know it ain't right to wish terrible things on to people, but my god I wish these guys get hit by a bus or something... only way to get justice in this society!

Fair criticism, but somewhat misguided. Eurogamer staff has stated that EGX is not run by Eurogamer, but by Gamer Network, Eurogamer's overlord.
Same difference. Rupert Lohman started by setting up Eurogamer and they basically created Gamer Network when they started incorporating American websites like US Gamer as well. They've always had strong ethics so it's a shame they're accommodating this little prick.

I'm ok with this as it's in line with game publishers' punishments for pushing unregulated gambling on children and people with addictive personalities
